Indeed, everyone seems to live by it. But, have you ever considered what it means?

More often than not, people invest with money; the stock market does not accept bread or building material or rice (remember, In God we trust, all others pay cash);

People who do not have access to money (e.g., farmers, bakers, carpenters) must work in order to acquire money to invest elsewhere.

Now, they will not work unless they get paid money. They too do not accept bread or building materials or rice (again, In God we trust, all others pay cash).

Apparently, it's not GOD we TRUST - but the CASH!

But, WHY do we trust the CASH?

Do we know:

what exactly 'money' is?

who controls it?

and, how it is issued?

Answer Key: (1) an IOU; (2) Private Banks; (3) by Fractional Reserve at Interest.

So, tell me again, why do we trust the CASH?
Whoever controls the volume of money in any country is absolute master of all industry and commerce. --President James A. Garfield
As I (and many others) have already demonstrated, an interest-based, fractional reserve monetary system is mathematically impossible to sustain—making it completely without redemption.

As long as our money is treated by private bankers as a commodity leveraged to enrich themselves, rather than a tool to benefit the public as it is supposed to be, all the prudent investing and economic efficiency in the world will not avail us.

To rid ourselves of our misery we must abandon our blind trust in a corrupt, private, interest-based monetary system and restore our trust to where it belongs--in GOD and eachother, as EQUALS.

it was fun, while it lasted . . .

But, WE MOVED to our own url!

(This blog will not be updated.)

I've been putting it off for some time now, because the other site isn't quite as I would like it. But, eblogger has been so problematic lately that I could wait no longer.

So, au revoir, Google!

It was fun while it lasted - all 1500+ posts - over almost one full year of daily blogging!

Of course, everything that's at this site will remain as is, unless or until we figure out a way to transfer it and all 1700+ external links to it!

So, please, google - have a heart and don't delete it!

In the meantime, to everyone who visits regularly, please keep coming, but from here on, to the new site!

It's not totally finished yet, but it's far more advanced than blogger and allows all registered users to blog! Ortega, for Nicaragua

Daniel Ortega, former head of Nicaragua's Sandinistas, is leading the polls in the election for President in Nicaragua. And while John Negroponte is currently unavailable to do the US administration's dirty work in Central America, Oliver North was recently despatched to Nicaragua to warn its citizens against voting for Ortega.

Plenty of questions surround Ortega's third try to regain the presidency. His running mate is a former spokesman for the US-backed Contra rebels, many Sandinista luminaries have since left the party, and he has reportedly made a deal with the Roman Catholic Cardinal who was once his harshest critic.
"He changed. He wants to be the jefe, the only one in the party, because of his ambition for power,” Señor (Ernesto) Cardenal said. “The party has been corrupted. I left the party. All the good people left the party.”

Nicaragua has changed, too.
Managua, devastated by an earthquake in 1972, has sprouted luxury shopping entres since the Sandinista years and its once-deserted streets are busy with cars from the Far East. But the drivers are besieged by urchins. The nation of five million is the second-poorest country in the western hemisphere, after Haiti.
In response, Ortega is "trying to turn the election into a referendum on the fracaso, or fiasco, of Nicaragua's "savage capitalism."
"Those in government have already had 16 years to deliver what they promised,” he tells the crowd. “They promised work. They promised health. They promised education. They promised culture. They promised sport. They promised finance. They promised there would be no hunger in Nicaragua. And they did not deliver."
Ortega's leading conservative opponent, Eduardo Montealegre, is a Harvard-educated banker. And Ortega, although he no longer voices socialist revolutionary ideals, has the support of Venezuela's Hugo Chavez.

I think you can see the pattern here. Nicaragua's former dictator, Somoza, has been replaced by the faceless dictatorship of neo-liberal economic policy, opening Nicaragua to the pitiless exploitation of western capital. Ortega is fighting back, as a populist and nationalist, arguing for economic justice for his people.

And, once again, no matter how small or economically insignificant the country, the U.S. brooks no opposition to its hegemony and never forgets a former foe. Look for dirty tricks before the coming elections.

she died defending our freedoms

Did she die in Iraq?

No.

Did she die in Afghanistan?

No.

Did she carry a gun?

Again, no.

Armed only with her convictions and the courage to defend them, she walked quietly with her child down a street in California.

As a pious Muslim woman, she never left home without her hijab, the traditional head scarf worn by Muslim women. But, what Alia Ansari died defending was - not her flag - but our freedom.

In defending her freedom to practice her religion, Alia Ansari died defending what America is all about.

Bush drones on forever about sending our troops abroad to 'protect our freedoms' but he's nothing but a miserable snake and a LIAR - people don't 'defend' freedom by conducting pre-emptive wars - people 'defend' freedom by exercising it.

By not giving in to fear and intimidation and doing what is your right to do.

By calling a spade a spade when you see it, and calling a murderer a murderer - though he might threaten to exact revenge.

William Wallace defended freedom when he refused to pledge allegience to a man who called himself 'king'.

Rosa Parks defended freedom when she sat in the front of the bus.

Martin Luther King defended freedom from his jail cell in Birmingham.

History's list of freedom fighters goes on, each time inspiring another to defend the flame that burns inside us all.
Among the believers are those who have been true to their covenant to God. Among them are those who have given their lives, others patiently wait their turn, having never weakened in their resolve. You're here because you know something. What you know you can't explain, but you feel it. You've felt it your entire life. There's something wrong with the world. You don't know what it is, but it's there, like a splinter in your mind, driving you mad. It is this feeling that brought you to me. Do you know what I'm talking about?

NEO: The Matrix?

MORPHEUS: Do you want to know what it is?

Neo nods.

MORPHEUS: The Matrix is everywhere. It is all around us, even now in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the world that has been pulled over your eyes to blind you from the truth.

NEO: What truth?

MORPHEUS: That you are a slave, Neo. Like everyone else, you were born into bondage, born into a prison that you cannot smell or taste or touch. A prison for your mind.

What is the Matrix
In my opinion, The Matrix films provide the best metaphor our society has for understanding why organized evil and oppression are allowed to exist, and so I will use it for this purpose. While my interpretation isn't the only possible one, I believe it to be valid, comprehensive, and most importantly, illustrative of the message I am trying to convey.

So let's begin by discussing what the Matrix is not. The Matrix is not the physical world. As far as I'm concerned, the physical world is actually real and is in fact governed ceaselessly by the laws of physics. Conversely, the Matrix is also not the Internet, despite what many seem to believe. The Matrix spans and transcends both these worlds. It has existed since the dawn of civilization, and it will continue to exist until its collapse.

So then, what is it? Well, that's complicated. Much like in the movie, it's nearly impossible to convey the size and scope of the Matrix to someone who doesn't already see it for what it is. However, unlike the movie, I believe it is an ethical imperative to try to convey it in a literal sense, even to those who are so dependent upon the Matrix that they would fight to protect it. At worst, they won't understand or believe and will continue on about their business. In a sense, I believe Cypher was right to resent Morpheus for what he did, because Morpheus engaged in flat out trickery and deception to free people.

But I digress. The Matrix is the social structure that subordinates Humanity to its will. It is the machinery of society that exists solely to perpetuate itself, its influence, and its power independent of any human need. It insulates us from each other and ourselves through deception, and essentially transforms us into servile engines of economic and political output (power). The machines that live off this power are institutions: large corporations, governments, schools, religious institutions, and even non-profit orgs. Every institution will reach a point in its existence where its primary function becomes self-preservation and perpetuation, instead of serving human need. At this point it becomes a machine of the Matrix. For example, when they become machines, governments cease to serve people and instead seek to extend their power over them; corporations prioritize increasing shareholder value over producing quality products or otherwise serving the public good; schools view students as a means and not an end; religions equate membership with salvation (and actively oppose other teachings and even independent practice); and non-profits and charities spend more budget on fund raising activity than on their original focus. Inevitably all large institutions eventually become machines. They become too big for Humanity.

In addition to the independent self-perpetuating machines that write most of our paychecks, the Matrix has several major cooperative and more actively sinister groups of machines subsisting off of its power and directly contributing to the structure of the Matrix itself. These groups are the Military Industrial Complex, the Political Industrial Complex, the Prison Industrial Complex, the Surveillance Industrial Complex, the Media Industrial Complex, the Academic Industrial Complex, the Agricultural Industrial Complex, the Medical Industrial Complex and the major organized religions. All machines in these groups either actively oppress humanity, or enable the oppression to persist. It is through their combined efforts that the Matrix takes on some of its more distasteful qualities.

Resisting the Matrix
Resistance is a mental state. The Matrix is designed to make it easy to accept what it tells you and to make it hard to filter the truth from the lies.

Resisting the Matrix requires understanding its operating principles and assumptions, rejecting them, and helping others to do the same.

The Matrix is fascist, the Matrix is deceptive, and the Matrix is bureaucracy. The Matrix is essentially the rule of the institution over the individual, and in it, the rights of the individual are subordinate to the rights of the institution. Individuals have to believe (or at least not actively oppose the idea) that large corporations have the right to protect their profits above all else, and thus dictate policy and law. They have to believe that this law is just, moral, and seemingly based upon reason. Or, they have to feel unaffected by the law on an individual level. They have to accept the program, and be satisfied with the rewards given for doing so. They have to do their jobs, pay their taxes, and be content with their salary (at least to the point where their salary and the stability it provides are appealing enough to deter risking leaving the Matrix). Rejecting these beliefs is the first step in resisting the Matrix.

Furthermore, people must be insulated from the creative process. They have to forget that they are able to produce craft as individuals independent of large institutions, and they must feel entirely dependent upon the system to provide them with what they need. It is mostly through the violation of this principle that many who work with computers come to free themselves, or at least come to see the Matrix for what it is. Despite being products of the Matrix (for the most part), computers and the Internet enable humans to create individual works on a global scale: independent media, self-publishing, Free Software, computer music, computer art and graphics, and so on. Computers also enable independent people to communicate and build human-serving social structures outside of the Matrix.

More at: http://jdoe.freeshell.org/howtos/ExitTheMatrix/ar01s02.html

israel - deny first, explain later

Standard Operating Procedure.
Israel said Thursday that no aggression against German forces was intended during a confrontation between Israeli aircraft and a German naval vessel patrolling off Lebanon.
This, of course, was after they initially denied it.
The Israeli embassy in Berlin released a statement from the defense ministry in Tel Aviv, saying the defense ministers of the two countries had discussed Tuesday's incident.

The episode occurred when Israeli jets scrambled after a helicopter took off from a German frigate serving with a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) task force. Foreign tourism is rising again after a collapse at the start of a Palestinian revolt in 2000. Markets recovered quickly from war in Lebanon this summer.

Amir Gissin, public relations director at the Foreign Ministry, said that the image makeover was also about keeping Israel on the right side of the U.S.-led "war on terror."

Many pro-Palestinian groups argue that Israel's policies inflame the anti-Western violence of Islamist militant groups.

"In the wake of 9/11, the objective now is to place Israel among the coalition of the moderates, facing off against Islamic radicalism," Gissin said.
Too bad, it's A LIE.

Federal judge hits and kills officer, no charges

A popular city police officer died Saturday, four days after being struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by a federal judge who is a cousin of former President Bush, New Haven's mayor said.

Officer Dan Picagli, a 17-year veteran of the force, was hit while working an extra-duty job directing traffic in the rain Tuesday night in a dimly lit section of Chapel Street.

"Officer Picagli was more than a cop," New Haven Mayor John DeStefano said in a written statement Saturday.
