Investigation into Israeli employees leads to 10 arrests
Border services agents and Halifax police raided a Clayton Park home and kiosks at three shopping malls Wednesday in a search for illegal Israeli workers.
A spokesperson for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) said the raid was part of an ongoing investigation under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and 10 suspected illegal immigrants were arrested.
CBSA officials transported two women and two men to provincial court on charges of working without authorization. Sheriffs were told to expect six more.
In court, one man asked for an interpreter and will return by end of day Thursday.
The second man asked for more counsel and will return Thursday.

Re: Suspected illegal workers arrested in Halifax
Israelis working at shopping mall kiosks? Did some of them claim to be “art students”? Did the Canadian authorities thwart another 9-11 -- this one planned for Canada?
The article says they were “victims” of immigration scams, much like immigrants from Central and South America. That’s questionable. Jews can hold dual U.S. / Israeli citizenship. Why would Jews need to sneak into North America? Clearly we are not being told the whole story.
Halifax is an “Anglo” town (British-Scotch-Irish) whose population is about 373,000, of which maybe 1,600 are Jews, most of which live in a somewhat affluent suburb known as Clayton Park. Lebanon has a consulate in Clayton Park.
Halifax’s economy is largely dependent on Canada’s military industries.
