A UN report published recently showed that the number of mercenaries working in Iraq has been steadily increasing and is now estimated that the number of such professional mercenaries to over 30%. Between 30,000 and 50,000 mercenaries are working in Iraq, making them the second largest military force there after the occupying United States.
The case of Iraq "is a new manifestation of the use of mercenaries that has caught the UN by surprise", Spain's Jose Luis Gomez del Prado -- a member of the UN working group on mercenaries -- said Friday during a visit to Peru. The United States has 130,000 soldiers in Iraq, he noted. Britain has 10,000 troops.

"Money" has no value - people do.
... one must wonder what these private mercenaries do without accountability or oversight?
Long before there was anything called "international law", the Geneva Conventions etc. is was a generally accepted principle that war only involves soldiers fighting for their respective countries.
Mercenaries were considered to be killing for money and were therefore subjected to death penalty when caught.
Therefore, the lynchings of US mercenaries at Fallujah were strictly speaking performed on the basis of a legal tradition whilst the US reprisals )with illegal weapons, targets etc.) which followed were not.
Mercenary is as a matter of fact the closest you will ever get the US term of convenience: "Illegal combatant".
Truth Seeker--If this criminal regime ever has to face international accountability when they leave office and are UNimmune, the first should be the imprisonment of the prince guy who runs the mercenaries and "Death Squad John" and whoever funded them repeating his Honduran,El Salvadorian etc... death squads...There is still some sort of Law these days..I think..
