This Newport News Mess is REALLY bugging me.

Now to the part causing me to be here at 3 AM. Lets have a kick at it then.

On January 8 in the gulf the Newport News had some unknown trouble while running in a tankers wake colliding with the tanker and doing minor damage to the tanker and a number of dents in the sub.
Then the story is washed away. As to the trouble to cause the collision i am guessing the boat had a problem with cooling systems and the boats systems (its main reactor controls) protected the sub from blowing to crap by going fill output on the main screw to avoid a over running reactor from overwhelming the main cooling system. In this process i think the emergency purge tanks may have taken a slug of raw coolant from this automatic reaction to unknown errors causing the boat to collide with the tanker.

Now i have heard a few so called experts say this is a hard maneuver to do i will just tell you it is done ALL the time. You see optically in shallow waters like the gulf subs are a sitting target for the eyes in the sky in transit zones like the Straits even near coastal depths they just don't have enough water over there boat to mask up in but the wake of a loaded tanker is noise. Churned water. Even if the sub is some distance from a heavy full power oil tanker it can still mask in the turbid waters for some distance behind a tanker. Anyway I am betting hat the Reactor on the NEWS is not seriously damaged BUT needs dry dock work for sure. April 10 rolls around and Fars news posted a repot that the Iranian's are seriously mad that Newport News is steaming around the gulf trailing radiation at a rather crappy rate and demanded that the US sub Newport news should leave the gulf. Now i am going to charge this crew with intentionally clearing there emergency purge tanks of one of her reactors in the gulf. The things that can cause the more precise running reactors in these boats to do this are many but i think a capt. command for all stop because of a serious GPS malfunction or the like showing the sub somewhere not correct . my guess the boat was not getting good acoustic ranging and was too close to the tanker. After they saw this the captain issues a allstop command to avoid hitting the tanker a collision no collision order to avoid the tanker coming late perhaps as small as 10 or 15 seconds late Or the captain was tricked by the wake flow from the tanker but with inertia minus trust from tanker versus the all stop they were still going to hit the sub in a panic i think they overrode the computer and probably tried a back 1/3 to avoid hitting the tanker then cavitation ensued the prop unloads and the reactor Quickly overwhelms its cooling and goes into a panic shut down. In the process the cooling system may have ruptured something causing a need to at some point do what they could do to clear the contaminated purge tanks or reactor spaces. I think a 2 month swim constantly flushing the effected compartments with sea water to make Dry dock work on the reactor a much safer job was ordered so that the navy could return the boat to service. I bet the NAVY department had a cow when they got wind of the Fars news reports of Iranian claims of US sub contaminating the gulf.

Crap 4 AM

Just complain like mad about the reason for the Leak and the 2 fracking month period that this boat was in the gulf doing WHO knows what or how much contamination was actually released or pumped into the water during this pair of months.
