Vatican ambassador criticizes Yad Vashem holocaust museum

At the Yad Vashem holocaust museum in Palestine is a caption suggesting that during World War II, Pope Pius XII was apathetic toward Jews. Pius XII was pope until 1958. The caption and a photo appear in a new part of the Yad Vashem museum that was opened in 2005.

The caption says Pope Pius XII, “abstained from signing the Allied declaration condemning the extermination of the Jews” and “maintained his neutral position throughout the war.”

Archbishop Antonio Franco -- the Vatican ambassador to Israel -- threatened to boycott a Yad Vashem ceremony this Sunday unless the wording is amended or the photo removed.

He said he had not received an answer from the Yad Vashem museum, which hosts foreign ambassadors at the event.

Defenders of Pope Pius XII say he did everything possible to help Jews.

Zionists portray him as an anti-Semite whose views were formed while working in Germany before his election as Pope in 1939.

Historians have called on the Vatican to fully open archives for the papacy of Pius XII.

the memorial after all?

I thought I saw that somewhere. It must have been after a lot of pressure to capitulate.

How is it that Israelis can request to examine Vatican documents for Pope Pius XII, but anyone requesting to examine German documents pertaining to WWII is a holocaust denier?
