As an American Muslim, I was outraged to read the transcript of Democracy Now's story on the imams detained in Minneapolis: What outraged me was not just the Gestapo-like behavior of US officials, passengers, and media. Most of all, I was outraged by Amy's tacit support of the 9/11 blood libel. Consider the following quote:

AMY GOODMAN: ... The article goes on to quote a series of unnamed sources, and then it states, quote, "Passengers and flight attendants told law enforcement officials the imams switched from their assigned seats to a pattern associated with the September 11th terrorist attacks and also found in probes of US security since the attacks: two in the front row first class, two in the middle of the plane on the exit aisle, and two in the rear of the cabin."

By linking the story of these Imams, who are in fact devout religious Muslims, to the story of the alleged 9/11 hijackings, Amy is reinforcing the blood libel that "Muslim extremists" perpetrated the 9/11 atrocities. In fact, reports by the Wall Street Journal and other mainstream papers, and more detailed ones by investigative reporter Daniel Hopsicker, make it clear that the 19 accused were/are not Muslim extremists -- in fact, they were not even remotely Muslim. These Muslim impersonators trained at secure US military facilities, frequented prostitutes, guzzled top shelf booze, flashed thick wads of hundred dollar bills everywhere they went, flew regularly to Las Vegas to party, rendezvoused with their intelligence controllers on Abramoff casino boats, and were given all the CIA cocaine they could snort. The "flight school" in Venice, Florida where Atta pretended to take lessons was in fact a CIA drug import airstrip, and the biggest heroin bust in Florida history happened there during Atta's imposture. The "flight school" financier, Wally Hilliard, was never charged, despite the fact that he had financed the airstrip purchase and owned the heroin-packed plane...presumably DEA offered its apologies to CIA for the ill-advised bust.

A peer reviewed academic publication has reported that of the 19 alleged 9/11 hijackers, 10 are still alive and one was dead a year before 9/11. The "evidence" that they were on the 9/11 flights is laughable: one blatantly forged airport video released years after the event, Atta's "magic suitcase" with its ludicrous parody of an Islamist's will, the "magic passport" that supposedly floated down from the Towers and other miraculous documents, and impossible calls like an apparent 10-minute cell phone conversation from 30,000 feet, when one would have been lucky to connect for five seconds at 5,000 feet. There were no Arab names on any of the flight manifests or autopsy lists, the flight paths of the planes rule out non-expert pilots, Atta called his father on September 12th, and the FBI has admitted that the question of the hijackers' identities "may never be resolved" and that Osama Bin Laden is "not wanted" for 9/11 because there is "no hard evidence" linking him to the crime.

Given these and other facts that, taken together, demolish the "19 hijackers" blood libel, it is outrageous that Amy Goodman continues to promote the Islamophobic 9/11 myth. Yet that is exactly what she does in uncritically referring to a "9/11 seating pattern" in the detained imams story. Democracy Now listeners will have their belief in the 9/11 blood libel subliminally reinforced by this show, which pretends to take the side of the poor hounded Muslims, but which secretly promotes today's genocidal Islamophobia by reinforcing the blood libel that triggered it--and doing so in the fashion of “coercion,” below the level of conscious awareness of the audience.

I know dozens of well-meaning lefties who have not yet looked at the 9/11 revisionist case because "if there were anything to it, Democracy Now would be all over the story." Indeed, that is how I felt for two years after 9/11. The betrayal of trust, for me, is so immense, that I want to see Amy Goodman in the docket for war crimes alongside the Goebbels crew from Fox and the ownership of all mainstream US media and the "left gatekeepers" of the so-called alternative media. Of all of these purveyors of blood libel, I think Amy may be the worst--because she is the one idealistic skeptics trust the most. Through her complicit silence, Amy has done more to promote today's anti-Muslim genocide than any other media figure. The ghosts of 600,000 dead Iraqis will haunt her soul forever.

BLACKSBURG, Virginia (CNN) -- Colin Goddard was mere inches from killer Cho Seung-Hui during Monday's massacre, and he heard the gunman end his own life after killing at least 30 people, Goddard's mother said.

After bullets had been fired all around him inside a classroom at Norris Hall, Goddard, a 21-year-old international studies major, played dead as the killer stood over him, said his mother, Ann Goddard. She told her wounded son's story Wednesday as he underwent surgery.

Goddard's ordeal began during French class, when he and fellow students first heard gunfire coming from a hallway, his mother said. (Watch Goddard's mother describe how her son was "scared to death" Video)

Professor Jocelyne Couture-Nowak told her students to dial 911, just seconds before Cho entered the room and sprayed bullets, wounding Colin in the leg. Cho "went first through one row of desks and started shooting just randomly," Ann Goddard said.

Cho then left the classroom, she said, and returned minutes later.

Colin lay on the classroom floor, playing dead. He "turned his head and actually saw the shooter's shoes come right up next to his body," Ann Goddard said. "The shooter was standing right next to him."

Her son was "absolutely scared to death," she said. "He kept his wits about him, but he was scared to death."

The gunman again shot Colin, hitting him in the shoulder and buttocks. Then he walked to the front of the classroom, she said.

Two gunshots were followed by silence.

Police broke that silence as they stormed the room, shouting, "shooter down! black tag!" Goddard said, which apparently are code words indicating deaths at the scene.

Police checked bodies throughout the classroom, she said. Couture-Nowak did not survive.

As surgeons worked to heal her son, Goddard said she didn't want the ordeal to become "the defining moment in my son's life."

Instead, she wants his defining moment "to be something positive, some great celebration of his life."

Colin, whose surgery was successful, was among the nine wounded who remained hospitalized Thursday afternoon.

Three victims of Monday's campus shooting spree were discharged Thursday.

One patient discharged had been recovering at Lewis-Gale Medical Center in nearby Salem, Virginia, a hospital official told CNN. There are no more patients at that hospital.

Two other patients were discharged from Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg, leaving six there -- three men and three women, all listed as "stable," according to hospital CEO Scott Hill.

"I can't speak enough to the strength of these students," Hill said. "They're really working hard to recover."

Two patients who suffered gunshot wounds were listed in good condition Thursday at New River Valley Hospital near Radford, officials told CNN.

At Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, one patient remained in serious condition with gunshot wounds. A tenth hospitalized victim who had been treated at Roanoke was transferred Wednesday to another hospital, spokesman Eric Earnhart said. He declined to identify the hospital, citing a request for confidentiality from the patient's family.
Slain students to receive degrees

Meanwhile, Virginia Tech's provost announced Thursday that the university will award the students killed in Monday's rampage with posthumous degrees.

"The families are very happy about this, and we are actually going to award those degrees during the regular commencement exercises that the students would have participated in with their friends," said Mark McNamee, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The university's scheduled commencement date is May 11.

McNamee also said university officials are working to provide current students choices about how they wish to complete the semester.

"We're going to encourage them strongly to continue in their classes, to get as much out of the learning process as they possibly can, but also to do it in the context of what they're capable of handling under the current circumstances," he said.

One possibility is that students could take a grade for the work they've done so far in class and not complete the semester.

The initial investigation had led law enforcement authorities to a preliminary suspect who was a Chinese national, accompanied by details and a description. The man was placed on the suspect list before fingerprints could be verified. The list in turn was distributed to law enforcement officials via a national network in place to check on possible terrorism in the United States.

Cho was identified following an analysis of fingerprints and ballistics.

That means they could not tell who the killer was - until they 'concluded' it was Cho.
