The unsung hero of the Virginia Tech massacre

Why haven't you heard about this brave person, but get endless coverage of the American professor who left Israel 20 years ago? Simple. He's a Muslim.
---
Waleed Shaalan

Waleed Shaalan, a 32-year-old graduate student, came to the United States from northern Egypt last year to study engineering. He lived among other Egyptian students in Blacksburg, Va., and was planning on bringing his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old son to America in May to live with him.

He was gunned down on Monday while he was studying in Norris Hall, but witnesses say he died a hero.

According to Randy Dymond, a civil engineering professor at Virginia Tech, Mr. Shaalan was in a classroom with another student when the gunman entered and opened fire.

Mr. Shaalan was badly wounded and lay beside the other student, who was not shot but played dead, as the gunman returned two times searching for signs of life. Just as the gunman noticed the student, Mr. Shaalan made a move to distract him, at which point he was shot a second time and died. The student believed that Mr. Shaalan purposefully distracted the shooter to save him, Mr. Dymond said.

"Waleed was bright, energetic and caring," Mr. Dymond said. "The reason we are in higher education is because there are students who are the bright light to the future. Waleed was one of them."

Equally social and studious, Mr. Shaalan was active in the Muslim Student Association at Virginia Tech, and he especially enjoyed participating in the group's community activities.

The Egyptian Consul has notified Mr.Shalaan's wife and parents, all of who live in Egypt. Mr. Shaalan's body will be flown back to his country in the near future, the vice consul, Mohamed Elghazawy, said.

"This is a very emotional time for his entire family, but especially his mother and father," Mr. Elghazawy said.

PERCEPTION is EVERYTHING.

and people only know what they've been told.

in ten years only the people who were glorified will be remembered by the average American.

as I don't always fall in line with you people but this has to be the epitome of bad taste.

The professor was witnessed being a hero. Is it so terrible that he was a jew from Israel? Has he done any overt Zionist scummy things that you can use against him to denigrate his act of heroism? Aren't you wonderful people always qualifying your remarks with the 'not all jews are like the Zionists' shit?

The professor was witnessed saving his students regardless of what he was or where he came from.

A student who allowed another to die so he could live and took no action to stop the shooter who was diverted "believes" "Mr. Shaalan purposefully distracted the shooter to save him". Mr. Shaalan probably moved out of sheer agonal reflex as he was seriously injured but you people feel that since he was muslim he should receive that which rightfully belongs to a Jewish professor.

You're right QRS, "perception is everything!

Nothing should be taken from anyone nor given to another for something as silly as their religion.

You may call me an antaganistic troll all you care to I do not kiss ass to be accepted.

You are wrong here.

oldranger | Sun, 2007-04-22 04:40

So what raised the hackles on an "antagonistic old troll" like yourself, enough to make you crawl back out of mothballs - this time ? Was it really "us people" indulging in a veritable "epitome of bad taste" ? Or just another old bone to pick,
another old gripe for "Old Ranger" to grouse about ?

If all you have better to do is to piss and moan about one single solitary Muslim person getting about a mustard seed worth of positive attention, especially from "us people" here at WUFYS, you should have been born Jewish to begin with.

Nobody here has put forward any statement, pro or con, of
the merits, or demerits, of the much lauded - heroic Jewish professor, to my limited knowledge. If anyone has ever made any disgusting animal noises about this phenomenon, it has been my own bad self, in a previous MP 7777 thread.
If you would even bother to read my commentary at all, you might discover that I do not take issue with the heroic Jewish professor any farther than to question the veracity of the story to begin with, which anyone else would, and should do.

Sorry Old Ranger, but that was not the issue that I chose to
deal with. The issue, for me, was - WHY DID LIBRESCU RECEIVE A LION'S SHARE - ( most, if not all ) - of the MAINSTREAM MEDIA ATTENTION, as a victim of this attack, TO THE POINT OF EXCLUSION of the detriment of MOST, IF NOT ALL, OF THE OTHER VICTIMS, HUH ?

NOT TO MENTION HIS BEING TOTALLY EXPLOITED AS 'POLITICAL CAPITAL', FOR A CERTAIN POLITICIAN WHO NEVER REALLY HAD ANY TO BEGIN WITH ?

If you still want to read about lavishing exorbitant attention
on someone, in a veritable epitome of REALLY BAD TASTE , almost contemporaneously as the slaughter was unfolding , I would suggest you read about THIS ...

Could this building be at the campus of Virginia Tech ?

Regarding the Jewish individual who (allegedly) saved people, the media’s obsessive focus on his Jewishness caused the problem.

Any Jew singled out for special glory because he or she is Jewish is automatically a roach.

Blame your beloved Zionist-owned media for this, not WUFYS.

Question - If you were a 'holocaust survivor', like Librescu, would you want someone, whose grandfather helped to finance the Nazi regime, to make a eulogy for you, on Holocaust Remembrance Day, at the Holocaust Museum ?

just a simple yes or no will do...

I may be a troll
as I don't always fall in line with you people but this has to be the epitome of bad taste….

You “may” be a troll? Why so apologetic? Why so humble?

“you people”? What is this? A separation? Are we soiling your dainty “sensibilities”?

No one here said the words “It is TERRIBLE that he is a JEW from israel.
Nobody here said that.
What IS terrible is that the media plays this up. They need all the help they can get to make israel look good – and this bit of news does help. THAT’S terrible. Because israel is terrible - or have you forgotten??
Have you forgotten the blood ties between the media and israel?

I see you have joined the "rah rah crowd of israel" that is the media!

So who’s your baby?
irshad munji? waleed shoebat? hirsi ali? nonie darwish?
How conveniently you fall into that same old tired Zionist illusion/jargon – jews-zionists
Are you regressing? Too tired? Can’t handle the heat in the kitchen? Are the house of horrors of world politics/zionism weighing too heavily on your poor old tired brain?

In that case, Atlas Shrugs is waiting for you with open arms.

What is this piece of crap??

"A student who allowed another to die so he could live and took no action to stop the shooter who was diverted "believes" "Mr. Shaalan purposefully distracted the shooter to save him".

So you threw quotation marks on the word believes. That's no better than you calling us "you people" or..... wonderful people who supposedly differentiate between zionists and jews, as you say with such stupid, indulgent sarcasm.

More of your nonsense:

"Mr. Shaalan probably moved out of sheer agonal reflex as he was seriously injured but you people feel that since he was muslim he should receive that which rightfully belongs to a Jewish professor."

How do you know where Mr. Shaalan was shot? How do you know anything about the circumstances, except for what this witness said? Why would the witness lie or exaggerate?

It stands to reason that most people with such injuries go through physical shock and don't feel pain right away after injury. How do you know he "moved in agony", as you so "assuredly" mention??

Amazing. There ya go with "you people". Such dripping disdain. Why so sour? I could understand if there was a modicum of intelligence in your post - there isn't. Just a HUGE lack of "perception" on your part.

Sad but true.

My cousin was in a horrible accident many years ago. She had blood pooring out of her back, upper thigh, and her lower leg and ankle were mangled badly. Except for the awful scars, she can move and walk like a normal person today.

Right after she crashed on the ground, she went into instant shock. Her mind was completely clear about the recent past - not the accident NOW. All she could say when the paramedics were attending to her was:

"Can I go work today? I need to get to work."

Physical pain hadn't even registered and would not until after her surgery. By then she was pumped up with morphine, but was indeed still feeling the pain.

That's the beauty of going into shock. Your mind cannot register this horrible situation you are in as it just happened and most people don't feel the instant pain because of it.

How do you know, old ranger, the cirumstances and intentions of Mr. Shaalan before his death?

It stands to reason that Mr. Shaalan was indeed, thinking of the victim next to him AND NOT HIMSELF. People do amazing things before death, but because Mr. Shaalan is a Muslim, this bothers you somehow.

Like you were really there. Like you know better than anyone else - especially the witness.

"You may call me an antaganistic troll all you care to I do not kiss ass to be accepted."

WOW! I am so mesmerized by your fantastic "non-conformist" capabilities.

Ho hum. Yawn.

Rhiannon | Sun, 2007-04-22 23:58

OldRanger,

You must have misread something. Nobody is objecting to the professor being Jewish, or being from Israel. What they are (rightly) objecting to is the fact that his act of heroism was singled out as being meritorious of public attention, when there were other similar acts of heroism that went relatively unreported. There is only one reason why this would be so and that is because he, like the owners of the media reporting on his heroism, is Jewish and also because it provides yet another opportunity to weave the ever-present holocaust narrative into the fabric of a totally unrelated event.
