What the heck is this???

Can someone please explain why there's a blood-red body of water in Google's satellite image of Baghdad???

I have no idea what this is, but I want to know what's going on.

Anyone with any clues, please share.

According to this comment, it's the blood disposal facility of the Baghdad slaughterhouse.

Doesn't sound credible to me.

There are other explanations at Reddit where I found this link and where, incidentally, one of our posts is making the rounds.

As usual, we're getting some negative comments about being a "jew bashing" site, with some recommending that people link straight to youtube to avoid associating with "neo-nazis."

What bullshit.

At a cursory glance it looks more like an algal bloom in a water treatment facility.

From the layout of the ponds, it may be some sort of brine works which sometimes get blooms that coolor them red. Howerver, since Baghdad is nowhere near the ocean, I'm probably wrong.

i think this could be a salt-processing lake, red dye is used in the process of making salt, i've seen it myself in some countries

It is the image of water settling basins in tehran. The red color is due to iron coagulants used to absorb particles of water

wow - thanks for that satellite image of the same thing in Tehran.

That sounds like a plausible explanation to me.

Thank God there is Google Earth. In this way I could find out where Cliffside Malibu is! It's not situated in a weird place, but GE makes yours life easier.
