Unprecedented: Whirled Bank Condemns israel

Paul Wolforatz’ problems seems to have humbled him a bit.

For the first time ever, he has allowed the World Bank to condemn israeli policies toward Palestinians.

An 18-page report released last Thursday says the Palestinian economy cannot survive unless israel dismantles a network of obstacles that has carved up the West Bank into a dozen enclaves, and restricted Palestinian access to more than half the territory.

It said israel’s web of physical and administrative barriers to movement went beyond security needs, and is aimed at boosting Jewish settlements at the expense of the Palestinian population.

It said israel must scale back travel restrictions imposed on Palestinians in the West Bank.

israel requires Palestinians to get permits to travel beyond their immediate area, and prohibits them from using roads reserved for Jewish settlers. Plus, there is the apartheid wall.

The World Bank urged israel to undertake a “fundamental reassessment” of its closure policies.

A special bank committee has already concluded that Wolforatz broke the organization's ethics rules when he arranged the pay package for his companion, Shaha Riza.

This Tuesday, the 24-member World Bank executive board is expected to deliver its final verdict on Wolfie.

Bush continues to support him, as does Cheney, Karl Rove, and Bush’s Jewish Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson Jr.

Europe wants him gone.

The Wall Street Urinal wants him gone, even though it supported Wolfie until now.

Democratic Senator Harry Reid wants him gone --- even though Reid is a Goy Zionist (Jewish wife).

As far as a replacement, media reports put Deputy Secretary of State Robert Zoellick at the top of the list. Zoellick is a neocon Zionist Jew, and a warmonger.

Also on the list is Mohammed el-Erian, an Egyptian Zionist collaborator at Harvard University. He is managing director at Pacific Investment Management Company, and oversees the Harvard Endowment.

Also on the list is Kemal Davis of Turkey, head of the UN Development Program.

On May 7, 2007, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez announced that his country had formally withdrawn from the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.

Chavez has often blamed these organizations for perpetuating poverty. He wants to set up a Bank of the South, run by Latin American nations, that would help countries facing financial difficulties. Chavez has pledged to support it with Venezuela's oil revenues.

After Chavez took office in 1999, Venezuela paid off all its debts to the IMF, and recently repaid its debts to the World Bank five years ahead of schedule. The IMF closed its offices in Venezuela late last year.

Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega said Nicaragua will leave the IMF.

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa expelled the World Bank's representative from the country, accusing the organization of attempting to extort him when he served as economy minister in 2005.

... is now coming out with this.

Let's take an off-hand look at the World Shank's activity in the IOPTs, and how it has been reported by independent media.

February 24, 2005:
World Bank May Fund Israeli Checkpoints
[Source: IPS News Service]

Israel is not eligible for World Bank lending because of its high per capita income, but Palestinians are.

According to a World Bank official, the project would help the Palestinian economy by allowing Palestinian goods and workers a faster review at the checkpoints
[...]
"However, as I said our financial contribution would be to the Palestinians. Because of its high per capita income level, Israel is not eligible for World Bank financing," Kostner said.
[...]
Some watchdog groups say the project would violate international law since some of the proposed checkpoints by the Israelis are on and around the separation wall, which annexes Palestinian land.

"If they are going to be funding the checkpoints outside of places in the Green (Line) then it's clearly a violation of international conventions and law," said Terry Walz of the Washington-based Council for the National Interest, a group that monitors U.S. and international policy towards Israel and the Palestinians.

"I must admit that making the Palestinians pay for the modernisation for these checkpoints is an embarrassment, since they had nothing with the erection of the separation wall to begin with and in fact have protested it. I think the whole issue is extremely murky right now."

Slimey. How fitting, that the name of the former World Shank president also begins with "wolf".

Here's a more recent story, further detailing the World Shank's conniving circumvention of its own restrictive funding regulations:

The Corrupt Agenda & the Political Power of The World Bank & Its Trustees

It appears that the World Bank of long has been actively involved in the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land - the accusations was rejected by James Wolferzon in the late 2004. Many development groups question the involvement of the World Bank and the U.S. government scheme. United States is the largest shareholder in the World Bank- the Israelis are not eligible for World Bank lending - not as one would think - because of its violent criminal conduct on Palestinian territories - but because of its high per ca pita income - the occupied Palestinians are. According to a World Bank official," the project would help the Palestinian economy - allowing Palestinian goods and workers a faster review at the checkpoints".

It seems as though the ever-increasing number of journalistic revelations of highly-suspect World Shank activities over the past few years has contributed somewhat to the perceivable 180º shift we're seeing today.

I might be lending too much credence to the impact of independent media in this case, but either way, it's a victory for oppressed people everywhere, that such a historically bass-ackwards institution is at least beginning to make moves in the right direction.

...Israel is not eligible for World Bank financing,"

Lucky for them - israelis get all their money either entirely free (i.e., US grants) or INTEREST FREE (US loans) while the rest of the world gets shanked by the IMF and the World Bank.
