The Forgotten Bedouins of Palestine
Since Palestinians are being slaughtered in Lebanon, perhaps we should remember another forgotten and isolated group of people: the Bedouins of Palestine.
Don’t confuse this group with Palestinians. These are nomads, a separate group of Arabs, and are just as persecuted.
The Negev Desert in Palestine is home of 80,000 indigenous Bedouin Arabs in 45 unrecognized villages. Their lands have been systematically stolen. Thousands have been forced to live in poor and densely populated shantytowns, which are anathema to the traditional life of nomads. The Bedouins have no access to basic infrastructure like water, electricity and sewage. They have no roads, no medical services, no welfare services, and no municipal authority to administer services. They have no access to any authority that might issue permits for building, and they live in constant fear of having their homes destroyed.
Under Israel's former Prime Minister Sharon, the Israeli cabinet approved a five-year plan to cleanse all Bedouins from Palestine.
There was no consultation, just a gradual increase in house demolitions, the spraying of herbicide on crops, and the filing of eviction lawsuits. Bedouin villages were destroyed, renamed, and rebuilt for Jews. The Bedouins, who once owned 94 per cent of the total land, had their assets declared state property. They now own less than 3 per cent. Those who remain are called "squatters".
Much of this crime is being done by a quasi-private zionist firm called the Jewish National Fund (JNF). The israeli government relies on the JNF and international zionist organizations to bring in Jews from abroad to settle on land stolen from Arabs. Already the JNF holds 13 per cent of the land, and now is currently advertising its "Blueprint Negev" as "A Miracle in the Desert.”
In host countries such as Australia, prime ministers protect JNF from having to pay taxes. Thus, when the JNF plants Jews-only orchards and forests on land stolen from Arab Bedouins in the Negev desert, it names them after Australian prime ministers, such Sir Robert Menzies, Bob Hawke, and the current ultra-zionist prime minister, John Howard. Former governor-general, Sir Zelman Cowen (zionist Jew) also had a forest named after him.
Howard was recently given the “Jerusalem prize” for his support of zionist atrocities.
Over the next ten years, the JNF plans to settle half a million Jews in the Negev Desert in 25 low-density housing communities.
The land will be stolen from the Bedouins of Palestine.
