America's Airwaves UP FOR GRABS!
Winner takes ALL!!!
Few of you are likely aware that the future of communications in our country rests on a seemingly arcane decision on how we sell off soon-to-be vacated TV airwaves. This public "spectrum" has the capacity to deliver high-speed Internet signals almost everywhere in the country.
The Federal Communications Commission will decide very soon how this chunk of air is to be auctioned off and used after TV stations go digital.
The government hopes that revenues from the sale (anticipated to be as high as $30 billion) will help pay down the national deficit, especially high since we went to War in Iraq.
Pardon the interruption - but that is so screwed up!
The national deficit is MOSTLY INTEREST, aka an extortion tax on NEED, extracted by bankers.
Now, they want us to auction off public property to the highest bidders (bankers) to pay it off?!! WTF???
The worst thing about it is that we don't really "need" them! It's all an illusion - we can issue our own damn money!
Yesterday, many members of the SavetheInternet.com Coalition came forward with a proposal: Let's use these airwaves to make the Internet more neutral, open and affordable for everyone.
Most people haven't heard about this issue, or know that such valuable airwaves are up for grabs. But it is important stuff.
Here's where things stand:
- Broadcast television channels will soon vacate publicly owned airwaves when TV stations are required to go digital by 2009.
Right now, the Federal Communications Commission is deciding how to structure an upcoming auction of these airwaves.
If used right, this new spectrum could revolutionize the ways we connect to one another -- and to laptops, cell phones, PDAs, music players and other mobile Internet devices. It can also deliver a wireless Internet into your house without the need for a telephone wire or cable modem.
Its signal passes through concrete buildings and over mountains; and can connect tens of million of Americans that are now ignored by wire-line Internet providers such as AT&T, Verizon and Comcast.
Phone and cable lobbyists are pressuring the FCC to hand over our airwaves to their bosses at AT&T, Verizon and Comcast. They plan to horde spectrum and stifle competitive and cheaper alternatives to their legacy networks.
This would be a disaster. After years of phone and cable company control over its Internet marketplace, the United States has fallen to 15th in the world in high-speed Internet rankings, with few choices and some of the highest prices for the slowest speeds in the world. We will continue to fall as long as we let phone and cable execs dictate Internet access for more than 96 percent of American users.
It's really important that we SPREAD THE WORD and get more people involved in telling the FCC how our spectrum should be used.
We don't want more of the same. These airwaves should be employed for the public good. They should be used to develop a wireless alternative to the telephone-cable market grab.
Yesterday, some SavethInternet.com member groups -- including Consumer Federation of America, Free Press, Media Access Project, Public Knowledge and US PIRG -- urged the FCC "to ensure that new spectrum is offered on an open and nondiscriminatory basis." (You can read their full filing by clicking here.)
With open networks, the rest of the world has rapidly adopted high-speed, Internet platforms for education, economic innovation, creativity and civic participation. Countries like South Korea, Japan, France and Canada have leapfrogged the United States and now offer faster Internet connections at far lower prices.
It's time we caught up.
Do something about it.
Write to the FCC, write to your senators and representatives - tell them how important it is that the internet remain public and demand UNIVERSAL single-tier access.
ENOUGH is ENOUGH.
If Information is POWER, then Communication is KEY.
Don't let them turn it into another MONOPOLY!
Here's a copy of the letter I sent via Save the Net:
America's airwaves are for PEOPLE, not Corporations!Enough is enough.
Stop selling every public asset to corporations!
So, they have a lot of money - so what???
Without People there can be NO MONEY!
Federal Reserve Notes are issued only by authority from the people!
Stop selling US out to corporations in return for money that is rightfully ours to begin with!
Please, do what is right.
Don't let them turn the internet into another monopoly.
Act immediately to save the Internet from corporate greed.
Modify it or slap your name on it and send it out - but ACT NOW, before it's too late!

Your definition of interest as an "extortion tax on need" is excellent, I love it. It's spot on.
This is hugely important, I'm gonna put it out in a myspace bulletin with a request for others to repost.
Is more zapola running though the airwaves.

As for the USURY, I say we throw the criminals in jail, disband their crime networks, expropriate their holdings, spread it far and wide, and obviously DONT PAY THEM BACK, LOL.
Excellent, Mike Rivero has linked to this blog today. That'll give it some much needed exposure. And when I put it out in a myspace bulletin (which goes to 1300+ people), I saw that plenty of people reposted it. Great work, qrswave.
Let's not forget the firmness of the government's grip on the whole internet thing. TOTAL is adequate descriptive. Complete is another. This has never been in doubt.
From the Smallest Dot com. To the very tops of the empire every net traveler is subject to every imaginable intrusion and delay. From out right attack on there home PC's. To outright "Stalking" every packet to your IP cloning your travels if you are a pain like me. Then you look to the Gatekeepers tricks and the hidden places they tend and see that from the Kiddy porn scum to the Video pirate to the drug dealer ABSOLUTELY no one can hide from the NSA's surveillance's of there network IP traffic. No traveler goes without pass and check from the NSA and even if you are a rich and mighty raker of dough YOU are all just VISITING a military communications network.
They allow your travel because it is easier to brain wash someone if you can use a malleable thing like HTML to baffle and indoctrinate a naive and confused person into thinking just what they want.
Have a real look at the INTERNET'S and there real uses and soon you may see as i have seen. If you use there network you will not really be any threat to them at all.
First you take D.C. Then you take New York.
In the end, none of that really matters though. We're using it against them, and ultimately it's out of their control. Out of their control in the sense that they can't control the flow and transfer of information as they'd like to, making it our greatest weapon and their Achilles heel. Information is power, and we're empowering ourselves. I wouldn't know half of what I know now if it wasn't for the internet.
Is doing it's job just fine. Know how i know this?
There is not 25 million persons occupying the Mall in DC.
50-75 million actual doing something humans will be necessary to right this new American Titanic.
And doing something not just blogging about it too. This is a real world issue and needs a real world fix set.
Since 1990 the world is closer and closer to the "midnight strikes" thing. American Elite money changer types seems to want to accelerate this rush to collapse. You can play along or you can help stop it. So far America is playing along as long a the Radial tires and iPod crap still flows.
I see Huge problems. Now problems. Problems no bomb can blow up no gun can shoot down.
Times are wasting Mr and Mrs America.
First you take D.C. Then you take New York.
