"OPERATION CYANIDE"
What is the most obvious meaning of this code-name -
so deceptively camouflaged as "Operation Cyanide" ?
It sounds so utterly sinister and lethal, one might be completely misdirected from its most glaring and obvious connotation, like a purloined letter hidden in the most obvious place, in plain view,
for all, including the snoopiest super sleuth, to utterly disregard. Why call this fabled covert operation "Cyanide", when it might just as well have been named for what it really was, by changing
only a few 'purloined' letters, to "Operation SUICIDE" ?
A little TOO OBVIOUS , perhaps ?
Given that we are now approaching a long overdue "watershed" reappraisal of the entire context of the USS Liberty incident, due largely to herculean efforts by surviving crew members to obtain justice at last, but also on account of the many determined souls working on their behalf, I would like to provide a little springboard of my own, from which we can dive even deeper into the murky, muddied waters surrounding the USS Liberty, and to serve as a marker for this dire day of destiny, June 5, 2007, the fortieth anniversary of the outbreak of that so-called "Six Day War",
or as I prefer to call it - "the Day the Mideast Went South".
It is quite to be expected that we should encounter the most resistance to bitter truth at the receiving end of the stick, so to speak. For all of our stalwart and sturdy boys to be finally forced to swallow that bitter cyanide pill they were all scheduled to take forty years ago, would be to rob bitter destiny of its real heroes. Yet I can only imagine how fortified those trusty sailors of our great illustrious U.S. Navy might feel at this stage, to find out, bitterly indeed, they were betrayed not only by a foreign power, masquerading as their best ally, but their own beloved country.

Six Reasons for a New Call for Congressional Investigation

”USS Liberty Dead in the Water” gives six reasons for a new call for a congressional investigation into "Operation Cyanide", "Frontlet 615" and the real purpose of the "303 Committee".
1) Incontrovertibility : The evidence of the crew and others involved in the incident lay bare the fact that the attacking Israeli forces knew their target was an American vessel. Sadly, our
US Administration went to great lengths concealing evidence and improperly influencing the findings of the naval court of inquiry. Note: Admiral Starings' statements.
Why go to all that trouble to hide Israeli involvement?
The coverup for Israel was only the tip of the iceberg.
2) Robert McNamara, the Secretary of Defense at this time, maintains he knows little and has taken no time to find out...
If an investigation had taken place he would have been called,
and would have known the answers to the questions asked.
...and how much would he ever let on, Mr. Thompson ?
3) Minutes of the 303 Committee meeting which discussed a project, code-named Frontlet 615, will confirm that there was a clandestine operation connected to the attack on the USS Liberty. Richard Helms, CIA Director at the time, confirms that the “purpose of the 303 committee was to review clandestine operations and give cover to the president in case of failure." The reasons for 303 committee involvement in Frontlet 615 will help explain what the U.S. government was so anxious to cover up, until this day. Colonel Block confirms that Operation Cyanide included a "communications" link with Israel...
...can't imagine some mojo operator pickin' up a telephone somewhere... but never mind that USS Liberty was the most sophisticated "communications" ship afloat at that time...
4) A senior officer of the Israeli Mossad at the time of the six day war confirms also that there was an operation “Cyanide” , which he cannot answer questions about, if only because of “signature” and "loyalty to my country." The film shows the level of covert involvement of the Johnson administration in the six day war, something that hitherto has not been admitted.

5) The Mossad has one non-Israeli named in its hall of honors: James Jesus Angleton, the CIA -Israeli desk operations chief
at the time, who was later demoted by CIA director William Colby
...talk about a certified spook , Mr. Thompson !

The surviving crewmen of the USS Liberty, along with all American citizens, deserve answers to what Operation Cyanide and Frontlet 615 really were, and what was the real purpose of the 303 committee.
Events in the Middle East justify congressional investigation
It just could be that the current sad situation which
the USA now finds itself in - BEGAN on June 8, 1967.
