Nothing like a good old fashioned bomb scare to keep the public on its toes and the counter-terrorism experts employed.
POLICE yesterday defused a car bomb in the heart of London's theatre district, a week before the second anniversary of the deadly July 7 bombings.Counter-terrorism police immediately launched an investigation into the first serious security incident to face Gordon Brown since he became prime minister two days ago.
Sky News quoted unidentified sources as saying the bomb was "potentially massive" and that the car held gas canisters.
Why would it be necessary for these sources to remain "unidentified?"
What are they hiding? Their (dual) nationality, perhaps?
Explosives officers were called to examine a car parked in the Haymarket, a busy street in the heart of London's theatre precinct, early yesterday morning, police said.
"They discovered what appeared to be a potentially viable explosive device. This was made safe," the police statement said, adding that counter-terrorism officers had been called in.
A police spokesman confirmed the device was a bomb.
Police threw a blue tarpaulin over the vehicle and closed off the surrounding area, causing heavy traffic congestion.
Workers, blocked from getting to their offices in the street, milled around.
A transport spokesman said Piccadilly Circus tube station had been cordoned off and trains would not stop there. Passengers were advised to use other stations.
Defence Secretary Des Browne told BBC Radio Scotland: "It does appear to be a very serious incident. My first reaction to this is, thank God that we have police and explosives experts who can make these devices safe. . . and that nobody has been injured."

Unless the British gov't was planning on killing more Brits to make the rest think they are in danger. They are in danger, but not from terrorists of a foreign/Islamic nature. if I understood Alex Jones well on his Terror Storm latest edition. You can not even pick your nose in public without being recorded by one of those spying cameras. Would those cameras be turned off in this case as they were on 7/7? I personally would not be surprised if they staged the whole thing again. The whole scenario has a Mossad like aroma to it. What would-be terrorist would bring a bomb to a potential target by driving in a manner that was sure to get him noticed, then crash the vehicle, leaving it sticking out into the street?
The powers that be want us to believe that Al-Qaeda can manage to pull off aerobatic flight manoeuvres in order to hit their targets, but can't do something as simple as drive a car?
