The number of serving US soldiers who commit suicide has reached its highest level in 26 years, a military report revealed today.
The study - obtained by the Associated Press before its official release - found that more than a quarter of those who killed themselves had done so while on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.
A total of 99 suicides among serving US troops were confirmed last year, up from 88 in 2005. The figure equated to 17.3 suicides per 100,000 soldiers, compared with an average of 12.3 per 100,000 over the last 26 years. In 2001, the figure stood at 9.1 per 100,000.
The report said Iraq was "the most common deployment location" for suicides and attempted suicides last year.
The 99 deaths included 28 soldiers who had been deployed to either Iraq or Afghanistan and 71 who had not been sent to the war zones.
Around twice as many women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan committed suicide as women who had not been sent to war, the report said.
Preliminary figures for the first half of this year indicated that the number of troop suicides could decline across the service but increase among soldiers inside war zones during 2007, officials said.
The rise in 2006 came as US army officials worked to set up new initiatives to provide mental health care for a force strained by the longer than expected conflict in Iraq and the global "war on terror", which is now entering its sixth year.
Failed personal relationships, legal and financial problems and the stress of their jobs were all factors in pushing soldiers to suicide, the report concluded.
"In addition, there was a significant relationship between suicide attempts and number of days deployed" in Iraq, Afghanistan or nearby countries in which troops are involved in conflict.
Around a quarter of those who killed themselves had a history of suffering from at least one psychiatric disorder.
Of those, some 20% had been diagnosed with a mood disorder such as bipolar depression, and 8% had been diagnosed with anxiety disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder - a characteristic of the conflict in Iraq.
Firearms were found to be the most common method of suicide. Those who attempted to kill themselves but did not succeed tended more often to take overdoses and cut themselves.
The US army said the research had been compiled from reports collected as part of its suicide prevention programme. The reports are required for all "suicide-related behaviours that result in the death, hospitalisation or evacuation" of a soldier.

I think/believe/feel that it is Israel that loses the most.
Please hear me out.
By committing such atrocities and crimes against humanity at an unprecedented level --- they are killing themselves. Both morally and socially. The fabric of civilization is to be "civil", or in other words to learn to live in peace and harmony with other people.
By using the Holohoax (or Holocaust if you believe 6mill were systematically killed), they have implanted into their very souls and into the fabric of their society --- a PERSECUTION COMPLEX.
While some might point to the short-term gain of "unity", this is an artificial unity. They are united only so much as they still see themselves as different from other people (aka Goyim) and feel they need to protect themselves from (fabricated) threats.

But this is artificial and fake. Slowly they are destroying themselves internally.
Low unemployment rates, low motivation, low self-esteem, low outlook on life.
High religious extremism, high abortion rates, high level of 'military preparedness', high extortion rates, high manipulation, high level of distrust.
All of these wears down on society. By committing such vulgar acts, they are destroying their very innocence.
There is something called a 'lag' phenomenon, in which there is a 'delay' in which KARMA catches up. I've experienced it as have you --- you can not escape from Karma!
with all respect Great Revealer, their killing of the Palestinians much quicker none the less.
But, I agree they are inevitably going to crumble, if nothing else...from within.
It's the ones who still have some sort of a residual conscience who are killing themselves. They can't sleep at nights.

When exactly in Israel’s entire history would you say that Israelis enjoyed any “innocence” in order to later be able to destroy it?
Was it when their Stern or Irgun terrorist groups were conducting terror acts against the Palestinians and British?
Was it when (before even the establishment of Israel) the incoming Jewish settlers who initially were welcomed by the Arabs returned the favor by burning down their villages, bombing them and raping their women?
Was it when the Balfour Declaration was signed, but Zionist/Jewish greed had not yet been satisfied?
Was it when the state of Israel was established and then proceeded to invade more of Palestine, Jordan, then Syria and Egypt?
Was it when Israel poisoned water wells of the Arab areas and sprayed their crops with deadly substances in order to stop the Arabs from being able to eat from their own crops, sell them or drink from their wells... and eventually have to leave their land for Israelis to conveniently annex?
Is it when over 5 million Palestinian refugees were created by Israelis, forced to live in terrible conditions and also attacked and killed in the UN refugee camps?
Was it when Israel continued adding to its already illegally occupied lands until the year 2007 in Lebanon under the nose of the UNIFIL when Israel keeps trying to shift the already illegal border of occupied Palestine and steal a few meters here and there as well as more water from the Wazani river?
Was it when Israel sprayed Lebanon with phosphorous and 3 million cluster bombs last summer?
Was it when the Zionists and later Israelis uprooted the Arab Jews from their countries and used them to spy for the Jewish state against their own countries? Don’t tell me here that this is a sign of how these poor Jews were somehow “tricked” or manipulated by the Zionist powers because the decent thing is usually not to spy against your country for a foreign one.
Was it when Israel and the Israel lobby convinced and manipulated the US into a war in Iraq and is now doing the same on Iran, Syria and Lebanon?
Forgive me, but I just can't seem to find a shred of "innocence" within the zionist entity.
The reason Israelis are crumbling from within is because the very foundation of the state of Israel has always been on hot air and was it bound to explode one day. There never was “ a land without a people for a people without a land”. There has always been a people on the land and they are the Arab people. The original inhabitants of the land… the Arab Christians, Arab Muslims and Arab Jews. These are the solid foundations of the land. The Israeli occupation will come and go… like any occupation force throughout History. Israel just managed to bluff the West with its ridiculous fairy tales in order to justify a purely political situation. Palestine was not even the only place that was being considered when Zionists were looking for a land to establish their so-called Jewish state. Latin American amongst others was considered. Were the Jews going to be the “chosen” people there to? All these are just stories that are used to justify to the masses or to the kind tax-payers concrete political and economic ambitions that certain powerful parties have.
These are refugees in 1948 when Israel had just been established. The refugee problem started even earlier with the Jewish terrorist groups like the Stern and Irgun who massacred and displaced Arabs to clear the way for Israel and who later became Israeli leader and Nobel prize winner for no less than "Peace. lol

Their kids start very early.., and this also is nicely hidden. Try to have a look at the curriculums of Israeli students to see what they are taught about the goyim and the world. Their geography lessons include all the occupied territories that Israel is supposed to return according to International Law and UN resolutions. They teach their kids that the Golan Heights, the West Bank and East Jerusalem are Israeli territory. What then is the world travesty of “peace negotiations”, Roadmap and on… about?

Here I agree with you. But the thing is that Israelis and the powers that support Israel were never just looking for a peaceful state for Jews to live in. This is just the cover-up. The truth is different. Israel has nothing to do with a “peaceful homeland for the Jews” and many Jews have also been tricked by Zionism and the "powers to be". Israel is a greedy foreign occupation force with very high economic, political and military ambitions that go far beyond a Jewish homeland. Israel is an ugly entity that is very lucrative for certain people at the expense of millions and millions of others. This image that the West has of Israel being a “poor little country” is complete Hollywood fiction. My friend, it is no coincidence that Hollywood Jews helped create that image and still help maintain it. The American people are just starting to realize what Israel is because the Israeli “effect” is starting to hit home due to many factors including political miscalculations.

As an Arab, I am beyond caring what harm Israelis are doing to themselves. All I can see is the un-measurable harm they have caused the Arab people and the Middle East ever since they put their foot in our lands. I cannot even imagine wasting another minute of my time or energy in concern for Israelis. 60 years have already been wasted and to no avail. Israelis have brought nothing but destruction and misery to the Arab world… and now even all the way to the United States. They bite the hand that feeds them..., so can you possibly imagine what they do to the people who live under their occupation?
There is no such thing as "Israeli innocence".. except of course in Hollywood

Suicide leaves little room for repentance for the soul. It is heartbreaking to see that our professional psychiatrists are seemingly unable to council people under the hold of confusion's grip. The victims were being " treated " ( drugs? ), but were they being consoled ? Was anyone listening to their troubled hearts ? It is said " Satan loves confusion. " I can not but think our fight, our struggle, our war is not against flesh and blood; but against wicked demons and angels of evil repute. The words of life are of spirit and truth the flesh profits nothing. Satan and his cronies are the only benefactors of such a tragic end to a person's life...a life given out of love from a Loving Creator.
