Iran to Start Production of Intelligent Bombs in Days

TEHRAN (Fars News Agency)- The production line for manufacturing an Iran-made intelligent bomb called 'Ghased' will launch operation next week.

The Iranian defense ministry said that it will start production lines for manufacturing other military tools and arsenals next week on the occasion of the Week of Government.

The 2000-pound bomb, equipped with an intelligent guiding system, is produced by few countries due to the advanced technical know-how required for its production and Iran is the last in the chain of countries which have succeeded in developing the technology.

Ghased has been successfully test fired by such fighter jets as F4 and F5.

naturally Iran will want to inform the world that it has a functioning defense industry, but not everything it produces is particularly special.

Or maybe the neo-saber-rattlers would prefer the American public not know that their country's impending attack on Iran could prove to be something rather trickier than a "cakewalk"?

Iran's Central Bank warns German banks not to close operations in the country
http://www.iii.co.uk/news/?type=afxnews&articleid=6254926

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Iran's Central Bank has warned German banks that their withdrawal from the country may result in business disadvantages in the future, the bank's vice governor Mohammad Jafar Mojarrad said in an interview with Financial Times Deutschland.

"There is no guarantee that they may return in good times. Our economic relations are based on trust and it's very difficult to restore trust once it has been breached," he said.

Mojarrad added that banks from Asia, Russia and the Gulf Region are prepared to take over the German banks' business in Iran.

Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank gradually shut down their Iranian operations in the past months and last week Allianz's Dresdner Bank said it will also discontinue its business relations with the country.

According to the report, the banks were put under pressure from Washington to cut ties to Iran as part of the United States' plan to cut the country off from international money transactions as long as it refuses to stop its nuclear programme.

Iran announces new 2,000-pound 'smart' bomb

Iran has developed a new 900-kilogram (2,000-pound) smart bomb, state-run television reported Thursday, the latest in a recent series of announcements heralding new weapons systems. The guided bomb, named Qased or Messenger, can be deployed by Iran's aging U.S.-made F-4 and F-5 fighter jets and will be officially unveiled next week, said the broadcast quoting a Defense Ministry statement. Iran often announces new weapons for its arsenal, but the United States maintains that while the Islamic Republic has made some strides, many of these statements are exaggerations. Iran launched its own arms development program during its 1980-88 war with Iraq in response to a U.S.-led arms embargo and since 1992, the country has produced its own tanks, armored personnel carriers, and missiles. Earlier this month, Iran said it had started industrial-scale production of its own fighter jet, known as Azarakhsh or Lightning, to upgrade its elderly air force, much of which dates from before the 1979 revolution. Iran last year test-fired a ultra-horizon missile, two powerful torpedoes and a Fajr-e Darya missile capable of avoiding radars and hitting several targets simultaneously using multiple warheads during large military maneuvers in the Persian Gulf.
