Blackwater resumes operations in Iraq

I felt that last Sunday’s massacre was so serious that Blackwater might eventually be forded to do something drastic, like change its name (and then resume killing).

Last Tuesday the U.S. State Dept. told Blackwater to limit its operations to the a 3 1/2-square-mile Green Zone in Baghdad (although politicians continued to move around by helicopter.)

Today, however, American convoys came out of the Green Zone and resumed moving around Iraq under Blackwater protection.

Obviously Iraq’s nightmare cannot continue without bodyguards, since people don’t want to be seen escorted by regular military troops in Iraq. (Afghanistan is a different matter.) I just hoped that other employers of mercs would ask how they can trust their hired thugs not to wig out.

The presence of mercs shows that the USA is too weak and corrupt to maintain its occupation with regular troops alone.

zionists say the same thing about Iran. They say Iran’s “elite paramilitary Quds Force” is a bunch of mercs who are arming and training Shiite militias in Iraq.

Do you think Shiite militias in Iraq are so helpless that they need to be trained by outside mercs?

Didn't Shiites already get training a couple of years ago when the CIA bolstered them to offset the Sunni resistance?

I suppose it was "training" from Iran's “elite paramilitary Quds Force” that forced the British to retreat from Basra.

Federal prosecutors are investigating whether Blackwater illegally smuggled weapons into Iraq; weapons that ended up in the hands of a U.S.-designated terrorist organization.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Raleigh, N.C., is handling the investigation with help from Pentagon and State Department auditors, who have concluded there is enough evidence to file charges.

Two former Blackwater employees — Kenneth Wayne Cashwell and William Ellsworth — are cooperating with federal investigators. Both pleaded guilty in early 2007 to possession of stolen firearms. In their plea agreements, which call for a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, the men agreed to testify in any future proceedings.

A major probe is now looking at whether Blackwater shipped unlicensed automatic weapons and military goods to Iraq.

The probe grew from internal Pentagon and State Department inquiries into U.S. weapons that had gone missing in Iraq.

The probe gained steam after Turkish authorities protested to the U.S. that they had seized American arms from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) rebels.

The PKK, which is fighting for an independent Kurdistan, is banned in Turkey, and is considered a “foreign terrorist organization” by the State Department. That designation bars U.S. citizens or those in U.S. jurisdictions from supporting the group in any way.

Blackwater is the biggest of the State Department’s three private security contractors.

The other two, Dyncorp and Triple Canopy, are based in Washington’s northern Virginias suburbs.
