Yes, I thought of the same movie when I read Greg Bacon’s post. Jewish actor Nicholas Cage plays “Yuri Orlov,” a displaced Ukranian who grew up in "Little Odessa," the Russian community in Brooklyn. I agree with what you say about China. It makes sense in a way, but I have a hard time believing they [Chinese officials, diplomats, etc etc] are that dumb that they would welcome israelis gladly into their country - if israel should become unhinged.

Germany would welcome these israelis - because they have to - yes, most grudgingly so - that goes for the rest of Europe, but China?
