Israel resumes controversial holy site work

Posted 8 hours 9 minutes ago

Israel has decided to resume controversial renovation work near the Al Aqsa mosque compound in Jerusalem, a project which earlier this year sparked protests from Muslims worldwide.

"The ministerial committee decided to continue works near the Dung Gate after receiving all the permits and in accordance with the government decision," Immigrant Absorption Minister Yaacov Edri, who heads the committee, told AFP.

The project, which was suspended in the wake of international condemnation, seeks to enlarge and bolster a ramp just inside the Old City's Dung Gate that connects the Western Wall prayer plaza, revered by Jews, to the Al Aqsa Mosque, Islam's third holiest shrine.

An independent Turkish committee which inspected the controversial site in March "approved the project," Mr Edri said, adding the construction work will begin "very soon".

Israel has insisted the work poses no risk to the holy sites and is being carried out because of earthquake and snowstorm damage sustained in 2004.

Trivia: In the picture above (right) we see the Dome-Of the-Rock shrine. (Masjid Qubbat As-Sakhrah) On the left is the Masjid Al Aqsa. So where’s the "Al-Aqsa Mosque"?

The wikipedia zionists say that according to Islamic law, all Muslim buildings on the Har HaBayit (Temple Mount) are the “Al Aqsa Mosque.” This includes the Dome-Of-The-Rock.

The separate buildings are masjids, or places for religious meetings. A "mosque" (as I understand it) is a holy site. So on the Temple Mount, all the masjids form a "mosque."

In the picture below we see the Foundation Stone inside the Dome-Of the-Rock. According to Islamic tradition, this is the spot from which Muhammad (PBUH) ascended for a night-long journey to Heaven in AD 621 (accompanied by the angel Gabriel) and met Abraham, Moses, and other prophets, and was given the Islamic prayers before returning to Earth.

Jews claim this same rock was where Abraham fulfilled God's test to see if Abraham would be willing to sacrifice his son Isaac (Genesis 22:1-19). Muslims dispute that. They believe this event involved Abraham's other son Ishmael, and occurred in Mina, Arabia.
