Two Lebanese Voices, Worlds Apart

This is a response to Rhiannon’s excellent post on Brigitte Gabriel. (http://www.wakeupfromyourslumber.com/node/4261)

Ms. Gabriel calls herself a Christian Lebanese.

I can think of another Christian Lebanese person that takes the opposite point of view. He was born in the USA, but he speaks Arabic.

Ralph Nader.

You know him as a consumer advocate, and a defender of labor against corporate tyranny. You might also know him for his ongoing campaign to get Bush and Cheney impeached.

Regarding israel, however, Nader has tended to remain quiet, right?

WRONG.

In 2000 he called for the USA to end all aid to israel.

In 2004 he infuriated the ADL with this clip (18-second video) from C-Span. Nader calls the entire U.S. government a bunch of puppets for israel. Abe Fucksman responded by calling Nader a bigot, but was helpless, since Nader is a prominent attorney, and would have welcomed a fight.

Also, here’s a four-minute clip in which Nader blasts israel…

Here are more Nader quotes from various sources….

“israel wants a puppet regime in Lebanon. The israeli government cannot stand an independent Lebanon, so it invaded once again, always seeking to promote sectarian conflicts, as it did in 1982. The 1982 invasion involved total war crimes, massive damage, and death and destruction to innocent people.

“The border between israel and Lebanon involves raids of israel, much more than Hezbollah. The israelis still control large farm acreage, the Shebaa Farms, on Lebanese soil. The israelis have abducted israeli civilians. The israelis won’t tell the United Nations or the Lebanese government the location for thousands of land mines in South Lebanon so the mines can be deactivated. And during the 18-year occupation of South Lebanon, itself illegal under international law, israel drew precious water from the Litani, and even took fertile topsoil back to israel. The israelis plundered everything.

“The USA carries inescapable responsibility for the israeli government's escalating war crimes. The American support of israel's indiscriminate bombing of Lebanon puts responsibility on Bush, who is shipping a lot of weapons and tax dollars to israel. In Bush, we’re dealing not just a phenomenally ignorant man, but a messianically driven man. When the israeli prime minister visits the White House, Bush knows who the puppeteer and who the puppet is, but Bush doesn't like to appear a puppet. Therefore he embraces messianically anything that israel wants to do.

The israeli military reservists who have refused to serve in the West Bank and Gaza say, ‘We shall not continue to fight beyond the 1967 borders in order to dominate, expel, starve and humiliate an entire people.’ And that is exactly what Bush is providing the israeli military regime an opportunity to do.

“The israeli peace movement is huge, but it faces opposition from Bush and Hillary. The cardinal failure of the Bush regime is that that they side with israeli militarists, and ignore the broad, deep and prominent israeli peace movement.

"In israel there is far more freedom in the media, in town squares, and among citizens, soldiers, elected representatives and academicians to debate and discuss the israeli-Palestinian conflict than there is in the United States.”

In a statement to Emirate al-Khalij newspaper, Nader called upon Bush's administration to stop backing the israeli military system as well as to start thinking of its citizens' interests. Nader depicted the White House and the US congress as a puppet theatre where israeli officials control everything and decide what they want. Then they return to israel carrying billions of dollars and arms.

Regarding the situation in Iraq, Nader pointed out that the American forces control everything in Iraq including oil and economy, asserting that Washington has planned to establish 14 permanent military base to be the greatest American base outside of the American borders.

Nader condemn's israel’s apartheid wall, its targeted killings of Palestinians, and Prime Minister Sharon’s Gaza disengagement plan.

“Too often the United States walks lockstep with the israelis; it needs to think for itself,” Nader’s spokesman added.

“We are supporting the israeli military regime with billions of dollars, and ignoring both the israeli peace movement and the Palestinian peace movement.

The subservience of our congressional and White House puppets to israeli military policy has been consistent. Until ’91, any dictator who was anti-Communist was our ally. They’re almost all puppets. There are two sets: Congressional puppets and White House puppets. When the chief puppeteer comes to Washington, the puppets prance.

The israeli peace movement is quite broad. They just put 120,000 people in a square in Tel Aviv. They are composed of former government ministers, existing and former members of the Knesset, former generals, former combat veterans, former heads of internal security, people from all backgrounds. It is not any fringe movement.

Instead of focusing on how to bring a peaceful settlement, Republicans and Democrats concede their judgment to the israel lobby. Tom Friedman said, “Ariel Sharon has Arafat under house arrest in Ramallah and Bush under house arrest in the Oval Office.” Virtually no member of Congress can say that.

Nader is a great guy... but he is not singing the zionist tune. He also genuinly wants to see peace in the Middle East which is not what the Israel lobby and the US want. They talk about peace because it is the right thing to do in public discourse, but all their actions denote a clear position against any peace agreements in the Middle east... The day Condy arrived to Israel last week, Israel confiscated another portion of East Jerusalem totally separating Gaza from the West Bank... and Condi didn't even condemn it. On the contrary, she condemned the people who condemned Israel!

Nader is indeed a great guy, but as long as the US is in Israel's pocket, great guys have no chance..

For cleaning up the post and embedding the videos.

I still have trouble embedding videos. I've signed up with YouTube, but there seems to be a problem.
