Nuclear watchdog wants U.S to stop anti-Iran rhetoric

UN atomic watchdog chief Mohamed El Baradei has said he has no evidence that Iran is building nuclear weapons.

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency told CNN he had not received any information of an active nuclear weapon program.

He accused U.S leaders of adding "fuel to the fire" with recent aggressive rhetoric and said even if Iran were working on nuclear weapons they would still be a few years away from having such a weapon.

Mr El Baradei said he feared escalation from both sides, leading to another Middle Eastern mess.

He also accused Israeli of taking "the law into their own hands" with a mysterious raid on Syria last month, and demanded more information about the hit on an alleged nuclear facility.

He said neither Israel nor the United States had furnished any evidence to prove that the Syrian site bombed in early September was a secret nuclear facility.

Mr El Baradei insisted his agency should have been contacted first, as it had the authority to go into the country to investigate.
