A Harmonie Club employee confirmed that the controversial organization is today playing host to yet-another in what turns out to be a trio of Jewish fundraiser for Rudy Giuliani in New York this afternoon.
A source says that the host of the event is Steven Some, a New Jersey-based Republican political consultant and lobbyist who is also the chair of the New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education.
As has been much-rehashed in recent weeks, Mike Bloomberg quit the Harmonie Club before his first run for mayor (to replace the term-limited Giuliani) in 2001, and recently-confirmed MTA Chairman Dale Hemmerdinger stepped down when his 20-year membership in the club became an issue African American and Hispanic elected officials due to its lack of minority members.
This most recent bout of scrutiny of the club was touched off in earnest this election cycle when Barack Obama pulled the plug on a fundraiser there.
It was recently revealed that Gov. Eliot Spitzer's father, Bernard, is also a Harmonie Club member - a fact of which ousted Senate GOP consultant Roger Stone has taken particular note. Sen. Marty Golden, a Brooklyn Republican, has called on the real estate magnate to follow the leads of Bloomberg and Hemmerdinger and quit.
So far, Bernard Spitzer has not heeded that call.
I wonder whether this Giuliani event will cause the same outrage. So far, no comment from the Giuliani campaign.
