Was Israel worth the US's loss of its standing in the Middle East?

These are interesting comments by Dr. Hans Blix. US troops were basically driven out of Saudi Arabia by the Saudi people and not the unpopular ruling royal Saud family who are buddy pals of the US. The US had to leave Saudi Arabia and find another place for its troops in the Middle East.. and Iraq was the choice. The way I see it is that sooner or later, the US will be driven out of Iraq by the Iraqi people. The US will neither be able to guard pipe lines in Saudi Arabia or Iraq… or Iran. I hate to say this to my American friends, but the US’s blind and unfair support for Israel as well as its evil foreign policy in the Middle East has made it very unpopular here. The US may be welcomed by puppet governments, but it is no longer welcome by the people. The US is desperately trying now to transfer and base some of its forces to Lebanon with the help of its puppet government and some the militias it is financing. Seems that the US forgot its previous delightful experience in Lebanon. Mainstream media of course doesn’t even bother to refer to current desperate US activity inside Lebanon because the US government knows that if the American people knew what their government was up to in Lebanon, they would never support it. I wonder if Israel truly worth the US's loss of the Middle East?

Blix says US wants its troops in Iraq

November 7, 2007 - 6:04AM

Former chief United Nations weapons inspector Hans Blix says he fears the United States has a secret plan to keep its troops in Iraq.

Dr Blix, who warned against the invasion of Iraq after his inspectors found no evidence that weapons of mass destruction were being held by Saddam Hussein, is in Sydney to receive the Sydney Peace Prize.

"One fear I would have is that the US has a hidden thought to remain in Iraq," Dr Blix told ABC radio on Wednesday.

"One reason why they wanted in was that they felt they must leave Saudi Arabia.

"After the Gulf War in 1991 they left their troops in Saudi Arabia to protect pipelines," he explained.

"And when they felt they could no longer stay in Saudi Arabia, Iraq was the next best place because it was more secularised than Saudi Arabia and had the second biggest oil reserves in the region."

Mr Blix also said the US military wanted to be very close to Iran, to which it has a very fierce attitude.

But Dr Blix said Iran needed more time to consider halting its feared uranium enrichment program in favour of achieving diplomatic relations with the US and other countries.

"North Korea is promised diplomatic relations with the US and Japan if they abandon (their) nuclear program and they're also promised a guarantee against attacks ... Iran has nothing of that," he said.

Earlier, Dr Blix said Australia's 500 troops in Iraq served mainly a symbolic role.

He told News Ltd that Australian troops provided more public relations value than anything and withdrawing them might not make any difference to the situation.

Dr Blix recalled the UN team's failure to find any weapons of mass destruction in 700 searches of 500 sites in Iraq.

"The aims of the war were, first of all, to eliminate weapons of mass destruction that did not exist," he said.

"Secondly, to establish a democracy, and what they ended up with was anarchy; and thirdly, they wanted to weed out al-Qaeda which was not there but which came there (after the invasion)."

He said the elimination of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was the war's only positive outcome.

DUH!

They've built one of the biggest embassies in the Middle East, not to mention several humungous military bases! which were planned as far back as 2004.

Hans impresses no one with his belated little bureaucratic attempt at candor.

You are right... A "secret plan"??? lol! How much more ridiculous can one get? Why are people in public positions always so scared to be clear and direct?

Hi, Cherifa! I read a few of your posts before I noticed your name & got a jolt of recognition. Alice is not my real name; I'm pretty sure we knew each other in university. Clue: we took a certain political science class that was very stimulating, given by an amazing teacher whose initials are W.K.

I've moved around a lot, but never forgot you. Amazingly, after all these years, we share very similar views and interests. I live in Egypt now, & would love it if you emailed me.

mmm... W.K.. I remember him. I wish I had been more attentive in his classes and I often wonder what he must be thinking of what's happening nowadays. Why don't you email me @link.net and refresh my terrible memory.
