While the article is touching on some important issues, such as conventional notions of what constitutes beauty, it strays dangerously close to being racist in tone, if not in intent.

No matter what race they happen to be, any two people will have two completely different concepts of beauty. The 'conventional' idea of what constitutes beauty was created by the mainstream media and is being forced down our throats day-in, day out.

This is the same notion of beauty that has young women killing themselves to maintain an unnatural level of thinness and has older women (and now men) resorting to having botulism injected into their facial skin tissue to fight off the inevitable signs of aging.

It is a perverted concept that is shallow in nature and devoid of any humanness or soul. It most definitely is not a definition of beauty as prescribed by the whites, but one created by those who thrive both on creating problems that don't exist so that they can provide solutions that are not needed. It is the same group of people who love pitting people against each other on the basis of superficial differences.

Real beauty comes in all colours, shapes and sizes.

I am trying to read all the response as quick as I can, but this garbage appear to be racist to its core. If I am reading it right, it appears to be right out of the Ku Klux Klan play book. I believe the writer of the piece is being deliberately provocative in order to get a legitimate point across, although it is true that it sails very close to the wind. The purpose of the article is, as far as I can see, to question the conventional notion of beauty as prescribed by the mainstream media. It has nothing to do with making criminals victims and vice-versa.

By the way, although the money changers are using hip-hop to rake in billions of dollars, the same hip-hop is being used by folks like Mos Def and Riz MC to get some very important messages across. It isn't the medium, its the message.

Everybody seems to get "uglier" as they get older. Kids are so beautiful and yet there are so many ugly adults.

Of course, beauty is only skin deep. Most of us probably have very fond memories of our grandparents. Our first exposure to old age was this venerable figure, stooped over, wrinkled and grey-haired. But most of us saw past the wrinkles and loved these old folks dearly.

I imagine most people pattern their ideal mate on some cultural norm, based on some general type that is suggested by the parent of the opposite sex. I don't believe that we want to "sleep with our mother/father" in the Fruedian sense, but I believe there is an unconscious patterning that takes place.

As to more general concept of "beauty", there seems to be a cultural norm that changes over time. Centuries ago, white people held pale skin as the ideal, thus we have "Snow White" as the "fairest of them all". Nowadays, white people find pale skin repulsive, and many spend hours in the sun or a tanning salon trying to make themselves more attractive.

Personally, I have been attracted by women of all races. If a woman is attractive to me, I cannot say why she is attractive. There are certain generalities: symmetry and proportion, that one could attribute to people of great physical beauty. But proportion implies context. To state that features such as "protruding lips" are generally unattractive would raise the question of why so many women have collagen injections to make their lips bigger. One feature that I will say is beautiful: a smile that shows a loving heart.

Once in college I was riding with a girlfriend and we saw a couple walking together and I made some smart-ass remark as to how homely the two of them were. My girlfriend said, "There's somebody for everyone in this world." And when I thought about that, I was ashamed of what I had said. What a beautiful thought that everyone might have a mate prepared for them. And what a nasty tongue to mock two people who have found their intended mate.

Critics may argue over who "invented" jazz music. Some say it originated with Scott Joplin's ragtime. Some say W.C. Handy, and Jelly Roll Morton often credited himself. But it would be difficult to argue that jazz music was not largely an invention of black musicians. Similarly "rock and roll" music originated in the black community as "rhythm and blues", and its early pioneers were charted separately in the "race music" category.

I don't want to go on in a testimonial to black people, but stating that blacks have made no meaningful cultural achievements ignores the many lasting artistic creations by blacks. Presenting rap as the "peak of their "cultural" achievement" is a misrepresentation of fact showing an ignorance of culture.

This is the type of topic that pretty much every one has some thing to say about, even me. We might be confusing the two notions of beauty and attractiveness of humans, although we might use the same word for them.

Attractiveness is some what "measurable" and thus communicable. But I think beauty is not measurable and thus very much "personal". Being "personal" doesn't mean we should/can not talk about it. But it does mean we cannot set standards for it.

Some 25-30 years ago we were static about discovering IQ. We applied it to every one we ran into in the world and enjoyed it immensely because somehow we always came up with greater numbers for ourselves. From about ten years ago, using IQ as an indication of intelligence has also an implication of low IQ itself. We now know that IQ is just the "measurable" tip of the ice burg, that largely is immeasurable (or more accurately we don't know how to measure it).

Character overview
The character is an Americanized version of the British original: Til Death Us Do Part. But where I will disagree with you is that there is an average for everything, including attractiveness, intelligence, adaptability, physical prowess, honesty, morality, etc. And there is great disparity among the races in these traits.
