Let's do the twist

twist-1.jpg

Regarding the latest National Intelligence Estimate, consider how twisted the Zionists and warmongers have become as they try to lie their way out of their lies…

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
TWISTED…

Zionists and warmongers have vilified the IAEA for years, but now they’re trying to use the IAEA to discredit the NIE. The Jew York Times claims that an (unnamed) “senior official close to the IAEA” disagrees with the report. The Times forgets that one of the NIE authors, Kenneth Brill, is the former US Ambassador to the IAEA.

Another author of the lastest report, Tom Fingar, helped write Bush’s previous NIE report that said Saddam had WMDs in 2002. Yet everyone acuses the latest NIE of bias against Bush.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
TWISTED…

Time magazine says Bush was the mastermind behind the NIE report. If that's true, then why does Bush say the NIE report is completely irrelevant?

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
TWISTED…

Nancy Pelosi (“we will stand with Israel now and forever") has condemned Bush for being too soft on Iran. Now she is praising the new NIE report.

Hillary accused Bush of “downplaying” the threat of Iran. In a speech at Princeton University (Jan 2006), Hillary said, “We must move as quickly as feasible for sanctions in the United Nations.” Hilary voted for the Kyl-Lieberman amendment that designated Iran’s Republican Guard a “terrorist organization.”

Hillary has consistently wanted war. On Monday Hillary said the NIE report validates the need for diplomacy, which Hillary claims to have wanted all along!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
TWISTED…

Warmongers such as John Bolton admit that the 2002 NIE report lied about Saddam having WMDs. Therefore Bolton says the new NIE report must be lying about Iran not having WMDs!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
TWISTED…

Norman Podhoretz in the Zionist Commentary magazine claims the 2005 NIE (which was never released) concluded with “high confidence” that Iran was building nukes. Now the new NIE concludes with “high confidence” that Iran is NOT building nukes. Since one or both of the NIE reports is wrong, we should dismiss the entire intelligence community and trust in Bush.

Podhoretz has dreamed up a “Seven Days in December” spy thriller scenario in which the intelligence agencies colluded to sabotage Bush and prevent him from the noble mission of triggering World War III for Israel.

“The intelligence community, which has for some years now been leaking material calculated to undermine George W. Bush, is doing it again. This time the purpose is to head off the possibility that the President may order air strikes on the Iranian nuclear installations. How better to stop Bush than by telling the world that such pressures have already been effective.”

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

TWISTED…

The National Intelligence Estimate, compiled every two years, reflects the consensus of 16 branches of the U.S. intelligence community. The latest report is a 140-page document with a 9-page summary, the first line of which begins: “We judge with high confidence that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program.”

Suddenly all those intelligence agencies are invalid—even though they are headed by Bush people, including retired admiral John McConnell, who Bush installed as supreme director of U.S. intelligence in Jan 2007.

Bush Senior, who was once CIA director, loved the CIA, and liked to sign notes: “Head Spook.” The CIA headquarters bear his name. Now the CIA is suddenly “wrong.”

In 2003, Iran offered to totally cooperate with Bush, stop its entire nuclear power program, and even stop aiding Hezbollah and the Palestinians -- but Bush ignored the offer. (See this article for a full description.) Despite the rebuff from Bush, Iran stopped pursuing nukes in 2003, according to the NIE report.

twist-2.jpg

What a circus! One minute the creeps are toasting the defeat of Hugo Chavez. The next they fear for their jobs. I refer to gangs in the Pentagon and the State Dept whose jobs depend on planning for war against Iran. Some of them are now running scared. One Pentagon official who asked to remain anonymous said the report "empowers the Iranians and weakens everybody else. I think it’s nauseating."

Cheney prevented the release of the 2005 NIE report, but claimed tyhe report said Iran could develop a nuclear weapon by 2010. This time Cheney could not keep the new NIE report secret. The Israelis will really take Cheney to the woodshed!

Former State Department official Daniel Ellsberg must be happy. He knew that U.S. “intelligence” against Vietnam was lies, but he did not expose those lies until 1971 with his Pentagon Papers. Since then, Ellsberg has written articles expressing regret for not coming forward earlier than 1971, and calling on government people today to not wait so long. The Pentagon Papers helped destroy Nixon. Ellsberg was charged with espionage, theft, and conspiracy, but a federal court judge dismissed all charges.

MADE BRANI says, “Imagine the chutzpah to argue that we cannot rely on intelligence reports, and must still consider attacking Iran. What are we relying on? God's command to Bush to go ahead and destroy Iran?”

Yes. That’s what “faith-based” intelligence is all about. Warmongers offer no evidence to counter the NIE report. They just don’t “believe” it.

The good news is that Russia and China have more grounds to resist any new sanctions against Iran.

The bad news is that Bush and Israel have more incentive to stage a false-flag attack, as QRS says . Further incentive will come from the subprime mortgage crisis, which is just beginning, and will send the USA into a major recession or depression in 2008.

Regarding the new NIE report, perhaps the intelligence agencies were like the Air Force personnel who exposed those six nuclear weapons before Cheney could use them.

This source has been discredited time and again - they even put out some story that Israel wanted their foreign aid payments in Euros. Still, if any of this, particularly the stuff regarding the U.S.S. Saratoga and the U.S.S. Liberty, were true, it would be interesting theory.

Here it goes:

December 4, 2007

Israel In Peril As Renegade US Military Leaders Sign Treaty With Iran

By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers

Russian Military reports circulating in the Kremlin today are stating that the United States Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, met with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in the Qatari capital of Doha, where both were attending a meeting of Gulf Arab leaders, and which saw them both signing what is being termed by these reports as a ‘secret’ non-aggression pact between Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and US Military Forces.

According to these reports, Secretary Gates was spearheading an effort by the United States top renegade Military Leaders to forestall further war for the Americans reported to be led by Admiral William Fallon of the United States Navy [pictured top left], the current Commander of the US Central Command and overall Commander of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and General Michael V. Hayden of the United States Air Force and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency [pictured bottom left].

Within hours of the signing of this secret agreement between the US Military and Iran, according to Western reports, the Pentagon and CIA ‘leaked’ one of the United States most closely guarded reports on Iran’s nuclear capabilities, termed a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE), that had recently been alluded to by the United States Director of National Intelligence, and former US Navy Vice Admiral, John Michael McConnell [pictured 3rd from top, left] who during his recent testimony before the US Senate stated that the ‘key findings’ of this reports would not be made public.

The critical significance of this report, according to Russian Intelligence experts, is that it completely shatters the American War Leaders claim for a needed war against Iran by stating:

"We judge that in fall 2003, Tehran halted its nuclear weapons program...

"We assess with moderate confidence Tehran has not restarted its nuclear weapons program as of mid-2007.

"We do not have sufficient intelligence to judge confidently whether Tehran is willing to maintain the halt of its nuclear weapons program indefinitely...

"We judge with moderate confidence Iran probably would be technically capable of producing enough highly enriched uranium sometime during the 2010-2015 time frame.

"We judge with high confidence that Iran will not be technically capable of producing and reprocessing enough plutonium for a weapon before about 2015."

Having reached these conclusions, it is not surprising that the NIE's authors make a point of saying up front (in bold type) "This NIE does not (italics in original) assume that Iran intends to acquire nuclear weapons."

These latest actions against America’s Main War Leaders by these renegade current, and former, high ranking US Military Leaders coincide with Secretary Gates verbal ‘broadside’ this past week against United States warmongering by his stating that his countries use of military power over ‘soft power’ was undermining his Nations security, and as we can read:

"Secretary Gates says the U.S. government needs "new institutions for the 21st Century with a 21st Century mind-set." He told an audience at Kansas State University recent conflicts, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, have proved that military power alone can not prevail in this century's challenges. He said that means devoting "considerably more resources" to other parts of the U.S. government.

"There is a need for a dramatic increase in spending on the civilian instruments of national security - diplomacy, strategic communications, foreign assistance, civic action and economic reconstruction and development," he said. "We must focus our energies beyond the guns and steel of the military, beyond just our brave soldiers, sailors, Marines and airmen. We must also focus our energies on the other elements of national power that will be so crucial in the years to come."

Gates says that means more money for the State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development, whose budgets are currently a small fraction of the size of his budget for the Defense Department.

He says the U.S. government might also need new organizations to expand and coordinate its capabilities to deliver assistance on governance, rule of law, internal reconciliation and basic services, and to communicate its policies and goals to the world. He suggests the need for a new National Security Act, updating the law passed in 1947 that established the current U.S. government foreign affairs structure, in order to better deal with the conflicts of the future.

"These conflicts will be fundamentally political in nature, and require the application of all elements of national power," he said. "Success will be less a matter of imposing one's will and more a function of shaping behavior - of friends, adversaries, and most importantly, the people in between."

An example of Secretary Gates ‘soft power’ use by the United States we can read in this report:

"Defense Secretary Robert Gates arrived in the Horn of Africa on Monday to inspect one of the most unusual missions of the U.S. military, one that has not captured or killed a single terrorist yet is viewed by the Pentagon as a model military deployment.

The mission of Task Force Horn of Africa is an application of the "soft power" Gates advocated in a speech on Nov. 26, when he said that U.S. counterterrorism efforts require not just combat operations, but a broader range of economic development and diplomacy.

U.S. combat personnel here train armed forces of nations in the region to build up their own counterterrorism abilities. Combat engineers build schools and hospitals and dig wells in an effort to promote social stability and prevent terrorists from taking root.

Commanders of the task force speak of "waging peace" and note that here in the Muslim world - where critics of U.S. policy accuse the Bush administration of waging a war against Islam under the cover of counterterrorism - U.S. engineers even have been invited to repair mosques, in Ethiopia, for example."

Most curiously, however, of these reports is one written by the FSB’s Counter Intelligence Organization on Secret Societies that details a most curious linking between these top renegade US Military Leaders and describing their organization as being molded upon the ancient Greek model of Boule's, meaning "advisor's to the king", and which details the following:

The current US Secretary of Defense, Robert Gates, left the United States Air Force’s Strategic Air Command in the late 1960’s to join the Central Intelligence Agency and was replaced by the current Director of the CIA, General Michael V. Hayden, who then was, also, a United States Air Force Officer, with both remaining close friends through successive changes in US governments for over 40 years.

It is also important to note that Robert Gates, likewise, served as Director of the CIA during the previous Bush administration.

The current Military Commander of the US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Admiral William Fallon, and the current US Director of National Intelligence, Vice Admiral, John Michael McConnell, likewise, have a most interesting connection as they were both young US Naval Officers serving aboard the US Aircraft Carrier Saratoga on a training mission in the Mediterranean in June, 1967, when Israel launched a surprise war against its Arab neighbors, and who both were party to these described events of the brutal Israeli attack upon the US Navy Intelligence Ship the USS Liberty:

"By patching together different systems, the ship's radio operators had ultimately been able to send a brief distress message that was received and acknowledged by United States Sixth Fleet forces present in the Mediterranean. Upon receipt of that message the aircraft carriers USS Saratoga and USS America each launched aircraft to come to the aid of USS Liberty. The reported attacking aircraft were declared hostile and the rescue aircraft were authorized to destroy them upon arrival. The rules of engagement, authorizing destruction of the attackers, were transmitted to the rescue aircraft "in the clear" (i.e., they were not encrypted).

Shortly after the Sixth Fleet transmission of the rules of engagement to its dispatched rescue aircraft, the Israeli torpedo boats suddenly broke off their attack and transmitted messages asking if USS Liberty required assistance. At the same time, an Israeli naval officer notified the US Naval Attaché at the American Embassy in Tel Aviv that Israeli forces had mistakenly attacked a United States Navy ship and apologized. The Naval Attaché notified the United States Sixth Fleet and rescue aircraft were recalled before they arrived at the scene of the attack.

At about the same time as the cessation of the torpedo boat attack, Israeli attack helicopters arrived over the ship.[32] Survivors report that the helicopters were packed with men in combat battle dress. The Captain of USS Liberty gave the order to "prepare to repel boarders" but the helicopters departed without attempting to land their troops."

Though the administration of the then US President, Lyndon Johnson, refused to investigate this horrific attack against one of its own Naval vessels, and which claimed 34 American lives, and left 174 wounded, the next President, Richard Nixon, and upon entering office, ordered one of his top political advisors to issue him an ‘immediate’ report of the events surrounding this attack.

This top advisor to President Nixon was George H. W. Bush, who subsequently became the Director of the CIA, Vice President of the United States under President Reagan, President by virtue of his own election, and is the father of the current American President Bush.

Former President Bush also had on his investigation staff a young CIA officer named Robert Gates, a young US Air Force Officer named Michael V. Hayden, and two US Naval Officers named William Fallon and John Michael McConnell, all of whom have stayed loyal to the Bush family and are all now the United States Top Military and Intelligence Leaders.

Though the full details of Bush’s report on Israel’s attack against the United States were never released, the fears of President Nixon towards Israel were well documented, and as we can read:

"Israel's possession of nukes and its potential to trigger an arms race were a source of concern to Richard Nixon's aides, a report says.

"The Israelis are probably more likely than almost any other country to actually use their nuclear weapons,"Henry Kissinger warned in a July 19, 1969 memorandum, according to a New York Times report on Thursday.

He served as President Richard Nixon's national security adviser.

Moreover, it showed concern on the part of Kissinger that the Zionist regime may have systematically stolen material from the United States for its nuclear development.

"This is one program on which the Israelis have persistently deceived us and may even have stolen from us," Kissinger wrote.

He also stated that there is circumstantial evidence that some fissile material available for Israel's weapons development was illegally obtained from the United States in 1965.

Kissinger even suggested withholding the sale of Phantom fighter jets to Israel as a way of compelling the regime to yield on the nuclear issue.

The former national security adviser also noted that in case the United States withheld the Phantoms and Israel made this fact public in the U.S., enormous political pressure would be mounted on the Nixon administration.

"We will be in an indefensible position if we cannot state why we are withholding the planes. Yet if we explain our position publicly, we will be the ones to make Israel's possession of nuclear weapons public with all the international consequences this entails," Kissinger concluded."

Though believed by many to be Israel’s staunchest supporter, this most curious report, however, paints a picture of grand deception by the United States against the Jewish state, and, perhaps, led to the current Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert, to announce this past week after the US sponsored Mideast Peace Summit to state:

"The state of Israel would be "finished" if prospects of a two-state solution collapsed, its Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has warned. Two opinion polls have shown widespread scepticism among the Israeli public about this week's Annapolis summit."

P.S. Has anyone seen Dick Cheney lately - could he be under arrest?

No, I don't know how to work with video. I wish I did. I've wanted to learn for a couple of years.

Abdul Alhazred | Thu, 2007-12-06 08:59

A couple of questions:

1-Does NIE steering committee have the authority to release the biennial report to the public?

[I read that the committee were not going to release the report to the public, but William Fallon and some senior generals gave their backings and convinced the committee to go public.

My own guess is NO, they don't have the authority, this must have happened by the blessings of the WH and congress. So Bush might be just acting to balance and damage control.]

2-Does this report have to be signed off by Chertoff (where is he lately anyway?) before the release, in public or in private?

[If yes, then why the Azraelis are reacting as if they are taken by surprise? If no, then our beloved criminals have missed a big loophole.]

3- Is something positive happening behind the scene?

[Since the report is diagonally opposite to the 2005 report, it cannot be based on real intelligence and therefore its purely a political move. Is the recent relative calm in Iraq, US releasing nine Iranian captives without any impressive reason, scheduling next round of talks on Iraq security, inconclusive 5+1 meeting on european sanctions, ... somehow related?]

4-Is Iran being set up?

Since the report is not based on any real intelligence and is purely a political move, could it actually be a silver bullet trying to use a sinister psychological method to establish a factoid that Iran had until recently been trying to make the bomb. Look around, almost every one is too excited with the good part of the report that is effectively allowing a factoid that the criminals have been unsuccessfully trying to establish for years is now being happily swallowed : Iran was making the bomb.

Once this factoid is securely established, all we will need is one of those 'unbelievable discoveries' that guess what, the bastard Iranians have secretly restarted the program....and boom everybody would be convinced now we should take action.

Kats | Thu, 2007-12-06 11:17

".. Is something positive happening behind the scene?"

Whether or not it's positive, only time will tell.

Supposedly, the WH released the NIE because several members of Congress had threatened to release the report and the WH wanted to preempt that action.

Here's a curious sidenote: Before the NIE was released, CNN's notorious TALKING TURD, the odius Glenn Beck, was ranting and raving about "Islamic Extremism" and getting help from his MOSSAD buddies MEMRI, who had numerous clips sourced to MEMRI showing dastardly deeds.

One clip was an obvious fake, but it probably played well in Peoria.

Since the NIE release, Beck has been interviewing Country & Western singers????

My guess is that Israel and her lobbies are retooling their message of hate and death towards the "existential" enemies of Israel and we will see this new and improved "Bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" campaign soon.

Already, this morning's news is showing blurbs coming out of the WH screeching about Iran's "missile" threat to the world.

Until that entire gang of liars, thieves and mass murderers, like Cheney, Feith, Wolfowitz, Perle, Rumsfeld, Libby, et. al,. are in jail, serving life without parole for their crimes against humanity, the world will still be at risk for more and more wars in the ME.

Greg Bacon | Thu, 2007-12-06 14:04

it does seem strange that they didn't know about it even though it's been in the works for a year.

also, I too noticed that the report asserted something that Iran never admitted - that they ever had a weapons program to begin with...

Thanks for your questions.

1-Does NIE steering committee have the authority to release the biennial report to the public?

On average an NIE is released every two years at the request of a White House (Executive branch) official, or a member of the House or Senate, or a military commander. Since it’s classified, the White House can block publication, as Cheney did in 2005 after the war turned sour -- but Cheney must act indirectly. He does not have formal say in what happens. When there is war fever, everyone does what Cheney wants. Now war fever has ebbed.

Various Democrats – especially Harry Reid – pushed for this latest NIE. Here’s a timeline.

In mid November, Reid locked the Senate into a closed session to demand accountability on prewar intelligence. I’m not sure why he did this, since he’s a Zionist (Jewish wife), but perhaps Democrats became concerned that the Bush regime was using the intelligence community to delve too much into the Democrats’ private affairs. Or perhaps Reid was being honest when he said flat out that he was concerned that the Bush regime was falsifying intelligence to asset the stage for an Iran attack, as Bush did for the Iraq invasion. It was Reid that dropped this NIE bombshell, and now the warmongers are vilifying him.

By the way, this is the first time that Congress people have actually looked at an NIE – a 140-page document. Since Bush seized power, Congress people signed off an NIE the way they did the Patriot Act—without even looking at it. Reid has never before looked at an NIE himself.

2-Does this report have to be signed off by Chertoff (where is he lately anyway?) before the release, in public or in private?

[If yes, then why the Azraelis are reacting as if they are taken by surprise? If no, then our beloved criminals have missed a big loophole.]

The DHS is only one of the 16 major intelligence branches. Chertoff has no power above the other branches when it comes to the NIE. He must sign off on it, but so must everyone else.

The NIE is produced by the National Intelligence Council, currently headed by Thomas Fingar. Fingar’s NIC works for the Director of National Intelligence, and has a Board made up of the heads of all intelligence agencies.

Fingar and the NIC write an NIE draft, and then circulate it throughout the intelligence community for comments and corrections. Everybody contributes in a process that usually takes two months, but can be “fast-tracked” in two to three weeks. Bush “fast-tracked” a bogus NIE in Sept 2002 when he wanted to spread the lies about Iraq’s WMDs.

All NIEs are reviewed by National Intelligence Board, which is chaired by the DNI, and composed of the heads of relevant intelligence agencies. Each agency sends a representative to meet and discuss the NIE at an interagency coordination session. These people go through the report line-by-line, paragraph-by-paragraph. If an agency agrees, it signs the document. If not, its objections are listed in footnotes. There can be dozens of footnotes in an NIE.

Each finding is presented along with a rating of “high confidence, “moderate confidence,” and “low confidence,” as we have seen in the news reports.

Where is Chertoff you ask? He’s keeping a low profile. Most of the $23 billion that DHS has paid out since 9-11 went to Jewish agencies, but now something has gone awry. Bush says he wants to cut DHS funding and eliminate some DHS programs. Hillary screamed about this, because she has so many Jews in her district, and all the other Jews in Congress screamed too – especially those from “Tel Aviv West” (New York City). New York governor Eliot Spitzer and NYC mayor Bloomberg screamed. The Jews want that DHS money – but Chertoff has been quiet about this. Interesting, aye?

It’s not just Jews. DHS money has become a grab bag for everything.

3- Is something positive happening behind the scene?

[Since the report is directly opposite to the 2005 report, it cannot be based on real intelligence, and is therefore a purely political move. Is the recent relative calm in Iraq, US releasing nine Iranian captives without any impressive reason, scheduling next round of talks on Iraq security, inconclusive 5+1 meeting on European sanctions, ... somehow related?]

I don’t think it’s entirely political, since all the intelligence agencies are involved. Also, the “calmness” in Iraq depends on one’s perspective. 2007 has been the deadliest year for U.S. troops.

Iraq seems quiet because the troops are refusing to go on patrols. They’re tired of getting blown up, and the 80 percent of them that are not psychopaths are tired of all the blood. They park their humvees, and then radio in every half hour, saying they’re conducting sweeps, which they’re not. The U.S. deaths occur in sensitive areas like the giant power plant at Baiji.

I understand your cynicism, but I don’t think the report is “not based on any real intelligence,” since everyone has input…

Army Intelligence
Navy Intelligence
Air Force Intelligence
Marine Intelligence
Coast Guard Intelligence
Defense Intelligence Agency
FBI
CIA
NSA
NRO
DOE
DHS
Treasury
National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency
State Dept. Bureau of Intelligence and Research

Is Iran being set up? I doubt it. We’ve only seen the beginnings of the fallout from the sub-prime mortgage meltdown, and Congress knows the USA is headed for severe pain. Maybe they don’t want to deal with that n addition to an Iran attack.

THE REAL QUESTION HERE is why did Harry Reid order this NIE?

This is not a Bush / Cheney deal. It's a Harry Reid deal.

In a sense, Democrats are beginning to act (a little bit) like Democrats again.

Abdul Alhazred | Thu, 2007-12-06 15:18

One other thing…

Since the NIE is a classified document, Bush has the power to quash it for “national security” purposes.

I said above that Cheney has no formal authority to quash it. That was an error. I meant Chertoff.

The question is how did Reid get the NIE get out to the public? Why did Bush and Cheney drop the ball? Why was Israel not in on this?

The answer could be simply that Karl Rove is gone. Rove was hooked into everything, and would have headed this off before it got anywhere.

Perhaps Democrats are beginning to tire of Bush’s rigidity behind the scenes. They like Bush’s war, but they must also please constituents in their districts, and Bush will not budge, despite the fact that the USA is going into a recession (or perhaps a depression).

Again and again, the question comes down to this…why did Reid suddenly order this NIE report? It could be something as simple as Bush’s rigidity concerning the Yucca Mtn nuclear waste depository in Reid’s state of Nevada. (Reid opposes it.) I don’t know.

The Israeli question is puzzling. Reid has been a strong supporter of Israel. He invests in Israeli bonds. Maybe there’s a Romney connection. Reid is technically a Mormon. I believe Israel was genuinely caught by surprise. The ADL is probably all over Reid, looking for dirt to use on him.

Reid is the Senate majority leader, as Pelosi is majority leader in the House. He couldn’t be ignored.

The whole thing is very strange. We'll probably know more in time.

Abdul Alhazred | Thu, 2007-12-06 15:52

..you cleared up many points. I was trying to put out in writing our (my) 'assumptions' regarding this report. 'Assumptions' are dangerous (if not checked) because we are unaware of them but they are active in forming our attitude and take on new events.

I don't think that NIEs are always political, only in this administration that has corrupted pretty much every important sector of the government. This report being diametrically (my oops above!) opposite to the previous one might be an attempt to 'restore' some of the lost credibilities too.

But I still think separating military and civilian nuclear activities without 'technical' data is a political choice. Some 40% (or 60%, I forgot) of Japan's need for power comes from nuclear technology. We can accuse Japan (or Brazil) of keeping a military option in their nuclear industries any day if we intend to. Indeed many heavy industries in advanced nations have been designed for dual (military) use.

Mitsubishi's pencil to auto manufacturing facilities apparently can be converted to weapon factories in short notice. London subways were designed to be used as shelters in a nuclear attack.

It was a political choice to accuse Iran, and it is a political choice to rescind the accusation with a choice of going back any time they want to.

But with the internet a lot of details are coming out as I type (..that Bush was briefed in August about the final version of the report, ..that he called Omelet on Nov. 24 to take 'permission' to release the report to the public, ..that Azraelis knew about the final version months in advance, ...). Let's hope this all is a positive change of events. God knows we need some good news, don't we?
