It’s a shame these things will be used to kill people. I could think of more productive uses in construction, or for disabled people, and so on.

That's unbelievably bizarre. Like "Metal Gear Solid" video game series (it's not just typical mindless action computer game but delve deep in international politics which is uncommon) come to life.
No doubt the training to run these bots id happening right now in virtual realities programmed into games. The level of feedback determines the level of advancement.
