The National Security Agency (NSA) reveals that Washington had faked an attack on US destroyers to sharply escalate the Vietnam War.

In a report recently issued in response to a 'mandatory declassification' request, the NSA retold the history of the Vietnam War from the perspective of 'signals intelligence'.

The NSA, which is responsible for much of the United States' codebreaking and eavesdropping, exposed information that indicates the reported North Vietnamese attack on American destroyers was indeed a scam.

The then US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara had told Congress that the evidence of an attack was 'unimpeachable' in a bid to force the then US president Lyndon Johnson to sharply increase the presence of American forces in Vietnam.

This is while the review of the classified signals intelligence proves that 'no attack happened that night', the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) said Monday.

"It's a dramatic reversal of the historical record," AFP quoted Steven Aftergood, director of the FAS project on government secrecy, as saying.

Watching and listening to that footage, it's evident that the Iranian voice sounds mechanical, like it was generated by a machine.

The video of the boats seems to be altered by some computer software.

There's just enough detail to make one wonder, but not enough to actually clarify anything.

In this day and age, we have cameras on satellites 60 miles above the earth that can read newspapers over your shoulders, but we don't use a sharp enough camera to clearly see the boats allegedly harrassing US ships in the Straits.
