CHICAGO (Reuters) - At least 18 people were shot when a gunman opened fire at Northern Illinois University outside Chicago on Thursday, CNN reported its local affiliate as saying.
It was unclear how serious the injuries were and whether any of the people had died at the college in DeKalb, about 65 miles west of downtown Chicago.

Of course the campus was a gun free zone. Remember this when MSM usurps the tragedy to push tighter gun control. This excerpted article from Dec. 10 Northern Star online brings up questions as to whether another black op is to blame, and begs the question, Even on heightened alert, are you safer in gun free zones?
“Continuing concern over icy streets and sidewalks and poor travel conditions, coupled with concerns and questions related to the previously-released campus alert, has resulted in a decision to close the university on Monday, Dec. 10,” the posted message said. “Only essential service personnel should report to work on Monday. Students who must drive should continue to monitor weather conditions and exercise caution with respect to travel decisions.”
The anonymous threat was found Saturday night in a residence hall restroom. It contained a racial slur and referenced the Virginia Tech tragedy of last April.
Written in black ink on the wall of a women’s restroom in Grant Hall Tower D were the words “things will change most hastily,” in the final days of this semester.
Following were the words “Tell those n---ers to go home,” and “ME/OUT... Die Sem Burr 10th... Hmz Sdn. Cr.” It is believed to refer to “December 10” and “Holmes Student Center.”
Underlined letters within the message spelled out the word “WATCH.”
Another part of the message, in different handwriting, read “What time? The VA Tech shooters messed up w/ having only one shooter...”
A former student commented:
"How can this be? NIU is a GUN FREE ZONE in the middle of a state with some of the most restrictive firearms laws in the nation. How much safer could you be?"

Have you ever heard of someone going into a gun store and letting loose with a volley of lead?
Hell no, because they know that their insane actions would be immediately terminated.
They like to prey in and around gun-free zones, where the pickings are easy, since no one has a gun... except for the shooter and the cops, who are occupied pestering the waitress at the local donut shop.
NIU gunman stopped taking medication
"Police said they learned that a week ago, on Feb. 8, Kazmierczak walked into a Champaign, gun store and picked up two guns — the Remington shotgun and a Glock 9mm handgun. He bought the other two handguns at the same shop — a High Point .380 on Dec. 30 and a Sig Sauer on Aug. 6."
They found 48 pistol shell casings and 6 shotgun shell casings. He stopped to reload the shotgun once.
That shotgun holds 5 plus one in the pipe, but it comes with a waterfowl plug that limits it to 2 and one in the pipe. He didn't know how to remove the plug.
Those pistols hold between 15 and 17 total and spare magazines are readily available. This dude carried extra pistols rather than extra magazines.
Strange - very, very strange.
