Mahmoud Abbas: "Al Qaeda is in Gaza and Hamas are their allies"

Mahmoud Abbas: what a treacherous, low, slimy and dangerous man. In order not to compromise one inch from his essentially very shady stand in what happened in Gaza prior to the Hamas take-over, Abbas chose to reject and endanger 1.5 million Palestinians by parroting Israeli rant claiming that "al Qaeda" has spread into Gaza via Hamas.. rather than engaging with Hamas in a dialog . Being a good US/Israeli puppet, Abbas obeys his masters and turns his back to the majority of his people. In the light of the abysmal failure of the "moderate Arabs" and the PA to cope with the Palestinian problem, Abbas has lost control over the Palestinian people for whom he has achieved nothing. Now, furious at his loss of control, Abbas turns to ally with his enemies against his own people. It is shameful and despicable... and it will lead to branding Gaza and the Sinai as terror infiltrated lands that will need foreign "peace" forces. Abbas is now fulfilling the Israel dream and has betrayed his people and allies. His accusations directly imply that "al Qaeda" went into Gaza from the Sinai. It is not the first time that Abbas's actions and accusations draw Egypt into a problem.

Al-Qaeda has infiltrated Gaza with help of Hamas, says Abbas

Al-Qaeda militants have infiltrated the Palestinian territories with help from Hamas, according to Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian President.
The charges are the most serious yet in the war of words between Mr Abbas, who controls the West Bank, and Hamas, whose Islamist guerrillas expelled his Fatah-dominated security force from the Gaza Strip last summer.
“Al-Qaeda is present in Gaza and I’m convinced that they [Hamas] are their allies,” said Mr Abbas in an interview with al-Hayat, a London-based Arabic newspaper. “I can say without doubt that al-Qaeda is present in the Palestinian territories and that this presence, especially in Gaza, is facilitated by Hamas.”
Israel has long accused al-Qaeda of infiltrating the Palestinian territories. The Israeli army’s intelligence chief said this week that more al-Qaeda members had entered the Gaza Strip after Hamas blew up the wall on the Egyptian border in January.

Abbas: Hamas helping Al-Qaida establish base in Gaza Strip

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday said that Al-Qaida militants have infiltrated the Gaza Strip and are receiving assistance from Hamas in establishing a base of operations in the Strip.

"An alliance has formed between these two organizations," Abbas told the London-based Arabic daily Al-Hayat on Wednesday.

Military Intelligence Chief Amos Yadlin on Tuesday said that Al-Qaida operatives managed to slip into the Gaza Strip after the Gaza-Egypt border was breached in January by explosives planted by Hamas militants.

According to Yadlin, many of the operatives underwent training in Syria and Iran and include snipers and explosives and engineering experts.

Last December, Al-Qaida leader Osama Bin Laden released a tape in which he warned the group would widen its operations in "occupied Palestine" with the goal of "liberating all of Palestine from the river to the sea."

Bin Laden said the group would make sure that "not a single Jew is left in Palestine" and would never recognize "even one inch of Jewish land, something that other Muslim leaders accepted."

Hamas, which seized control of the Gaza Strip last year after routing forces loyal to the secular Abbas, has been criticized by al-Qaida's number second in command, Ayman al-Zawahri, who had accused it of serving U.S. interests.

The Army of Islam, a shadowy clan-based group which held BBC journalist Alan Johnston for 114 days, is believed to be inspired by al-Qaida but there are no known direct links between them.

Abbas admits: Al Qaeda active in Gaza

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday admitted what Israeli security experts have been saying for over a year - that Osama bin Laden's Al Qaeda terrorist network is active in the Gaza Strip.

Speaking to the London-based Arabic newspaper Al-Hayat, Abbas said that Al Qaeda cells were receiving assistance from Gaza's Hamas rulers in setting up a base of operations.

Abbas complained that the Hamas-Al Qaeda alliance would only hinder the overall Palestinian goal of gaining sovereignty over Judea and Samaria and declaring a sovereign state that includes the Gaza Strip.

Abbas' remarks were published a day after Israeli Military Intelligence chief General Amos Yadlin reported that a large number of Al Qaeda operatives - including snipers and explosives and engineering experts - had used last month's breach of the Gaza-Egypt border to enter the coastal strip.

Israel and the United States repeatedly urged Egypt to reseal the border, warning the breach would be exploited by terrorist elements. However, claiming that it had no choice but to assist the Palestinians in relieving themselves after months of Israeli blockade, Cairo failed to repair the border for nearly two weeks.

As Israel forcibly evicted Jewish communities in Gaza and withdrew its forces from the area in 2005, numerous Israeli opposition figures and defense experts warned that it was only a matter of time before a Jew-free Gaza transformed into the world's leading terrorist haven.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed on Wednesday reports that al-Qaeda operatives have infiltrated the Gaza Strip.

In an interview to the al-Hayat daily, Abbas claimed that Hamas was responsible for allowing the operatives into the Strip, and said that a years-long alliance has existed between the two groups.

"I believe that al-Qaeda members have reached Palestinian territories and Gaza in particular. I think that al-Qaeda's presence there was made possible with the help of Hamas, especially in Gaza," he told the newspaper.

On Tuesday, IDF Intelligence Chief Amos Yadlin told the Knesset's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee that the recent breaching of the Egypt-Gaza border has enabled members of Bin Laden's group, as well as Hamas terror experts, to enter the Strip.

'Hamas indifferent to national aspirations'

Abbas denied holding talks with Hamas' political leader Khaled Mashaal, and stressed that "Hamas must acknowledged the fact that it has carried out a coup. It must announce its obligation to the decisions binding the PLO, including the Arab peace initiative.
