Good News or Bad? Local Gun Shop Jammed w/ Buyers
Wanted to share something I thought was relevant to recent discussions here on the economy.
My wife and I visited our local Gun shop over the weekend to purchase a hand gun for her. You couldn't believe how many people were in this store buying fireamrs! I shop regularly at this store for cheap ammunition to shoot at the range, so I am familiar with the traffic. This place was jammed. You could hardly get around each other at the counters and down the aisles. The tension was thick. People seemed tense. I was hyped up on coffee and feeling honery so I loudly proclaimed, "Everyone here must be worried about the Economy and riots in the streets!" I thought I was going to get kicked out. But everyone sighed in agreement; some even clapping their hands. I believe people are finally getting worried.
The title of my post asks the question, "is this a good thing or a bad thing?"
Everytime I have tried to talk to these types of people (shooting advocates; gun range people etc.), I can never seem to get past the Patriotic bullshit -- i.e., we must support our government; our government is our savior.
I am very glad that Americans own guns. I think this is the only thing that will save us. However.......I also worry that most Americans are so fooled, that those guns could be turned on people like me for suggesting that someone else is to blame for all of this mess. A particular range I shoot at has a paper target you can purchase with Osama as the target. This is the most popular target to shoot at!
I live in the South and I will tell you that I have not found one single person who doesn't believe in the propaganda. That is very troubling to me. My hope is to find others close with a like mind so that we can support one another. I really believe that at some point, we will all need to start reaching out and finding others with like minds, not just on the internet, but those who live near us. I have resisted this because it is so hard to trust anyone these days. But I do believe that the only way we will make it through all of this, is by sticking together.
I hope that my situation is not the norm. I hope that all of you are finding communities of like minded people. There is strength in numbers and 'they' seem to have the numbers right now.
I fear the worst; I plan for the worst, and hope for the best.
I would be interested to hear what others are experiencing around them. Sincerely.

The oath i took upon being sworn into the Army was an oath that made us swear allegiance to the Consitution of the U.S., not the government.
Part of the oath said to defend the Constitution from ALL enemies, both foreign and domestic.
The greatest enemies to freedom this country has these days are the psychotic mass murderers Bush, Cheney and their assortment of ass-kissers, backstabbers and sociopaths that have glommed onto the Bush/Cheney Junta like so many remora fish atttaching themselves to a shark.
It wasn't some designated bad guys, living in caves 12,000 miles away, that have been shredding the Bill of Rights and shitting on the Constitution..
It was the Bush/Cheney mob and their sadistic band of lunatics that have been stomping on those rights.
It's the deranged mass murderers known as the Bush/Cheney mob and their cohorts in both the Congress and the Supreme Court that has snuffed out the light of freedom in this country, not some boogeyman name aL Kaidia.
For is that not the reason people were stocking up on ammo, to fight off the leviathan tentacles of the Bush/Cheney mob?
That is what We the People will need the ammo for: To protect home and hearth from the Bush/Cheney mob's own personal goon squads, like Blackwater, when the economy collapses.
Until the at large murderers and war criminals of the Bush/Cheney mob are brought to justice and pay the ultimate price for their crimes, We the People will remain the hunted.

I hope so Greg. However.......I see mostly "Bush/Cheney" stickers on all the cars in my city/State. Like I said in my post, most of the people shooting at the range, were shooting at the "Osama" target. I think most of those people in the gun store over the weekend, were buying guns because CNN and Fox news has them convinced that the Arabs are ruining the Economy and soon they will be over here raping our women and children.
I fear, at least where I live, that all of those who own guns, will be fighting for the government first. Hopefully when they finally figure it all out, they will then fight against those who are oppressing us.
At least for me, I have to keep in mind that the people who read WUFYS are enlightened people. Alternatively, everyone around me it seems, is in an idiotic stupor induced by the Tv, sports, video games and Budweiser.
I hope you are right Greg.
We are glad you visit this site for information, but please keep in mind some posts like mine may be speculative that fuel the 'stereotypical paranoia' of conspiracy theorists.
Never mind that. It's true the U.S. is in the danger of deep recession, close to the depression point, because of the irresponsible fiscal policies of the private central banking organization (Federal Reserve for injecting untold billions into the market to keep propping up dying economy) and U.S. government (Bush/Cheney's policy of perpetual war that suck up so much money every week it depend on daily foreign investment to keep the economy afloat).
You are wise in your decision to visit gun shops for weapon, ammunition and accessories, because when the state of economic health is uncertain or threatened, the natural response is to invest in alternative currency (such as Euro) and exchange weak dollar reserve (savings) for gold/silver, transfer the remaining savings to a foreign bank (Swiss would be an obvious choice for its strict secrecy law), stock up on non-perishable food supplies, water and toiletries and exercising gun ownership as Second Amendment truly intend for the defense of life, family and property from the desperate, brutish trespassers.
I do not know for certainty whether there will be the economic collapse despite my frequent discussion of the topic. Considering the Fed's abusive monetary policy that only assist in the decline of the once-prestigious Dollar value with its 'non-existent' assets to bail out the collapsing hedge and investment firms, Federal Reserve's action only worsen the financial situation to dire strains.
It's an unfortunate fact that the majority of the American people are ignorant to the point of obliviousness to the truth as to the cause of the economic ailment with the aura of their self-deception believing Bush-Cheney are the saviors in the "War on Terror" and slavishly watching & reading the newsprint and cable tv for information. It's the lemming effect. This happen not just in the region where you reside, but nationwide.
It's a given fact that no one but a small fraction understood basic economics. Obama, Hillary and McCain admit to being clueless about this subject, preferring to hand the matter over to the advisers to set fiscal policy that will still be just as bad, if not even more disastrous than Bush-Cheney in fiscal hemorrhaging (we cannot afford universal health care at this time because of severe economic strain, yet Hillary and Obama insist on the issue to score political points).
I'm as far left as can be, and I'm a believer of the Bill of Rights, including 2nd Amendment. I could never understand the "liberal Democrat" position on gun rights issues in advocating & legislating gun control. It should be a non-partisan issue, because the right of self-defense cannot be abrogated.
The U.S. government is the most corrupt it's ever been in this moment of history, which warrant a revolution -- peaceful if Ron Paul is nominated and elected President, or violent overthrow if it is wont to the failure of solving the persistent crisis (calculated or not) by continuing to abuse the constituency with lies and breaching the Constitution.
thanks for sharing your important observations with us.
You may be right that some (or many) people are buying guns and ammunition to fend off 'invading hordes of Arabs.'
But, I think there are probably a fair number of others who are just buying to defend themselves period - no matter who comes knocking at their door.
Ultimately, this kind of anecdotal evidence suggests that people are anxious and apprehensive of impending civil unrest and it's well worth noting.
btw - hope you don't mind - I expanded on your title for clarity.
---------------------------------------
"Money" has no value - people do.
I have never desired a gun, guns have always scared me but I am seriously considering buying a gun and it is not to fend off the Arab hoards. There is something seriously going on in our country, and things are getting worst. I am more scared of our government and them hiring blackwater types that I want a gun to protect myself from them.
Its to protect yourself from the brain dead idiots around you, should the worst happen.
The only accurate judgement they will make in their lives will be that YOU are easier to kill and eat than a rabbit.
Thats why you should have a gun.
If things get tough, that gun will get you more in force or barter than gold will.
Dont forget ammo.
If any of you are shooters, you will have noticed the steady increases in ammo prices over the last 2 years. Most all types of centerfire ammo has about doubled in price, some calibers especially some of the more useful military caliber stuff has tripled. The time to stockpile cheap ammo is over, however, I suggest you get all the ammo you can afford right now. Even reloading supplies, bullets, primers, brass and powder have risen to the point where reloading for economy is barely feasable.
The simple .22 round will be one of the most valuable commodities in an economic collapse. Light, deadly and cheap. The price has doubled n the last year. Also 12 gauge buckshot in 2 3/4 inch.
I'm sure that the more knowledgeable among those buyers are anticipating a bad outcome from the D.C. Second Amendment gun case in the Supreme Court. The fact that they chose to hear a case from the District, which is not subject to the U.S. Constitution, but has it's own Constitution embedded in it's totally unique body of law means that they will make a ruling based on D.C. law and infer it onto the States.
Make no mistake about it - the denial of Second Amendment rights (not privileges) will result in a shooting revolution.
