It covers such things as marriage, personal hygiene, sexual relations, house cleaning duties, observation of the Sabbath, medicine, relations with non-Jews, alms and charity, questions of morality, in short, any and every conceivable problem which arises in life. The opinions of the rabbis begin with the teachings of the Old Testament which the rabbis then elucidate and elaborate (some would say distort) in the same manner in which the Supreme Court elucidates, elaborates and distorts the U.S. Constitution. It is within this context that the disputed passages in the Talmud occur.
