Casell's World Pictoral Gazeteer (1931)

PALESTINE. Country of Western Asia. Stretching South along the East end of the Mediterranean Sea, from Syria to Egypt and the Hejaz, and extending inland to Transjordania, it covers an area of about 10,000 square miles. Topographically it consists of the coastal plain of Sharon bordering on the Levant, the hill country of Judea, Samaria, and Galilee, and the valley of El Ghor stretching from the sea of Galilee down the river Jordan to the Dead Sea. The climate, wet in winter, is extremely hot in summer, and the soil, though arid and almost desert-like in the East, is generally fertile. Olive, cedar, and sycamore trees abound and cereals, wine, and many sorts of fruit are produced. In the Samaria district and on the seaboard, sheep and goats thrive. The trade is mainly with Egypt, Syria, and Britain, the chief articles of export being fruit, durra, barley, sesame, and almonds. Jerusalem is the capital, other centres being Acre, Haifa, and Jaffa. The country is covered by good roads. The chief railway runs from Egypt along the coast North to Acre, with branches elsewhere.

The history of Palestine has given it a religious significance in virtue of which it is the most famous country, historically, to the western world. The Holy Land for Christians and the national home of the Jews, it's story is known by the people of Europe and America better than the stories of their own countries. For all that, Palestine has never been for long a country in it's own right, but has perpetually been the subject of some mighty empire. Egyptians, Philistines, Alexander, Romans, and Turks, have conquered her in turn. The last conquest, more in the nature of a deliverance, was by Britain during the Great War, and the country is now adminstered by Britain under mandate from the League of Nations.

Population (1931) 1,035,154, of whom:
759,952 were Moslems (73%),
90,607 Christians (9%),
and 175,006 Jews (17%)

The dictionary that came with my computer, the Oxford American, shows a map of Israel.

The map shows Israel that has swallowed up the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and the Golan Heights.

Here's what the dictionary says about Israel. Tried to copy and paste the map, to no avail.

The modern state of Israel was established as a Jewish homeland in 1948, on land that was at that time part of the British mandated territory of Palestine. Israel has been in continual conflict with its Arab neighbors and today occupies territories taken in war, including the West Bank and Syrian Golan Heights. The violence intensified in 2000 and has continued. Irrigated agriculture, industry, tourism, and the support of Jews in the Diaspora are key to the well-being of Israel. See also Palestine .

And here's what they say about Palestine--no map.

Palestine |?pali?st?n| a territory in the Middle East on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. The name Palestine was used as the official political title for the land west of the Jordan mandated to Britain in 1920; in 1948, the state of Israel was established in what was traditionally Palestine, but the name continued to be used in the context of the struggle for territory and political rights of displaced Palestinian Arabs. In 1993, an agreement was signed between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization that gave some autonomy to the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and setting up the Palestine National Authority and a police force

..omits the fact that's it's been Palestine since
the Romans renamed it from Provincia Judaea,
to Provincia Syria Palaestina.

..most zoos tend to fall back on the 'God gave me this' slogan, (even though 85% are hussars and infidels!), and then they conveniently forget about the fact that it was lost for the Jews when they didn't heed the warnings of, and then had Jesus martyred on a cross. The LYING COWARDS!

..they also conveniently forget about the main stipulation of the Balfour declaration, besides slaughtering some more Goy for their world wars.

..that those population numbers were from 1931, and most certainly would have excluded semi-nomadic peoples outside the larger towns and city areas; for example the Bedouin.
