Project Censored's 1995 story on the HAARP Project
This story is quite long, so i only posted the first few sections.
Interesting stuff, especially about using HAARP to focus large bursts of electromagnetic energy.
If they were able to project HAARP up to 1600 miles in 1990, how many miles can they get out to these days?
9. The Pentagon's Mysterious HAARP Project
Source: EARTH ISLAND JOURNAL, Date: Fall 1994, Title: "Project HAARP: The Military's Plan to Alter the Ionosphere," Authors: Clare Zickuhr and Gar Smith
SYNOPSIS: The Pentagon's mysterious HAARP project, now under construction at an isolated Air Force facility near Gakona, Alaska, marks the first step toward creating the world's most powerful "ionospheric heater." The High Frequency Active Aurora] Research Project (HAARP), a joint effort of the Air Force and the Navy, is the latest in a series of little-known Department of Defense (DOD) "active ionospheric experiments."
Internal HAARP documents state: "From a DOD point of view, the most exciting and challenging" part of the experiment is "its potential to control ionospheric processes" for military objectives. Scientists envision using the system's powerful 2.8-10 megahertz (MHz) beam to burn "holes" in the ionosphere and "create an artificial lens" in the sky that could focus large bursts of electromagnetic energy "to higher altitudes ... than is presently possible." The minimum area to be heated would be 31 miles in diameter.
The initial $26 million, 320 kw HAARP project will employ 360 72 foot-tall antennas spread over four acres to direct an intense beam of focused electromagnetic energy upwards to strike the ionosphere. The next stage of the project would expand HAARP's power to 1.7 gigawatts (1.7 billion watts), making it the most powerful such transmitter on Earth.
A February 1990 Air Force-Navy document acquired by the Journal lists only military experiments for the HAARP project, including: "Generation of ionospheric lenses to focus large amounts of HF energy at high altitudes... providing a means for triggering ionospheric processes that potentially could be exploited for DoD purposes...; Generation of ionization layers below 90 km [145 miles] to provide radio wave reflectors ("mirrors") which can be exploited for long range, over-the-horizon, HF/VHF/UHF surveillance purposes, including the detection of cruise missiles and other low observables." The document concluded that "the potential for significantly altering regions of the ionosphere at relatively great distances (1000 km or more ) [1613 miles] from a heater is very desirable" from a military perspective.
For a project whose backers hail it as a major scientific feat, HAARP has remained extremely low-profile-almost unknown to most Alaskans, and the rest of the country. HAARP surfaced publicly in Alaska in the spring of 1993, when the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) began advising commercial pilots on how to avoid the large amount of intentional (and some unintentional) electromagnetic radiation that HAARP would generate. Despite protests of FAA engineers and Alaska bush pilots, the final Environmental Impact Statement gave HAARP the green light.
While a November 1993 "HAARP Fact Sheet" released to the public by the Office of Naval Research stressed only the civilian and scientific aspects of the project, an earlier, 1990, Air Force-Navy document, acquired by Earth Island Journal, listed only military experiments for the HAARP project.
Scientists, environmentalists, and native people are concerned that HAARP's electronic transmitters could harm people, endanger wildlife, and trigger unforeseen environmental impacts...
The limited amount of coverage given the issue tends to benefit the Navy and Air Force scientists who are involved in Project HAARP and would rather conduct their research without undue interference. Also, says Smith, Pentagon strategic planners are clearly interested in the "secret agenda" behind the public face of HAARP -- i.e. "triggering ionospheric processes that potentially could be exploited for DOD purposes." Smith added that the ARCO oil company and its subsidiaries are involved in the project to various degrees.
"I was struck by the argument of HAARP's scientists that heating the ionosphere and altering the region's electron densities should not be a matter of concern because the energy released by HAARP was `insignificant' when compared to the energy pouring into the magnetosphere from the sun. This is another logical fallacy favored by Rush Limbaugh, who has argued that there is no reason to be alarmed by the release of manmade atmospheric gases because volcanoes release much larger volumes of similar vapors. This is something like advising jaywalking pedestrians that they needn't worry about being hit by motorcycles because, compared to being run down by a Sherman tank, the consequences would be 'insignificant.'

Still stupid idea thinking EM makes earthquakes.
Why all the BS about HAARP Greg?
Is HAARP a honey pot to waste time perhaps??
First you take D.C. Then you take New York
Why, it's for nasty, little trolls like you, gNasher, to get them crawling out of their skins.
..who'd want to be anywhere near that thing when it fires up?

As for earthquakes, it's only in the tags because it's relevant.
Surrounded by all this shilly crap to hide the real causes of these quakes.
And it is not working.
First you take D.C. Then you take New York
Tell us oh tinfoil hatter, what is the REAL reason? U-238?
Earthquakes associated with weird ionizations in the atmosphere are ALWAYS nuke tests underground.
And i bet you could focus the source of the blast to meters using seismic data AND tell just how good the new test was...
You see the surface is not the battle ground... Space and it's loss will either save or screw the whole biosphere.
At this point China is saber rattling and Russia is mute.
They call it pucker factor.
And damn fun to watch the American/israeli poo diapers full over the real threats of statecraft on 2008...
And boy o boy Voices long held mute will sung out with a serious fervency this jail of ours has ever seen manifest for our education.
And i will be here throughout kicking at moving the HUMAN ball towards a much better goal.
First you take D.C. Then you take New York
Chinese nuke test?
Hey Masher,
I am interestd in your opinion. Contact me via my blog

Not so. The so-called 'weird' ionisations are thought to be a normal byproduct of an earthquake, not the use of a nuke. It is called the piezoelectric effect, and happens when any crystaline substance is subjected to mechanical loading - such as tectonic strain.
An underground nuke test could not create an full-blown earthquake where a quake-in-waiting didn't already exist - it simply doesn't release enough energy to cause anything more than a minor tremor by itself.
Aren't most big earthquakes accompanied by a phenomena called earthquake lights? I've never seen them, but they are supposed to be like a miniature aurora.
Not only major earthquakes, but sometimes even minor tremors that can only be detected by seismographs have been thought to be accompanied by such phenomena. This is one explanation (the most plausible, as far as I can tell) given for the 'jack of the lantern' and 'will o the wisp', both of which describe glowing balls of light.
Is a nice tale but as far as i have seen not that much in the evidence department to back it up.
I think with out too much doubt this event was a test of the E-bomb a deliberate use of a nuclear blast to produce a destructive EM pulse or effect to attack electronics. Russian threats about just such a weapon may have just went main line 'We are SERIOUS about this' in a sort of Wee don't care about your official lies and cover ups. We are going to be heard and nothing the American system can do to halt the word or implications of this E-bomb threat.
I hope we all work out this mess before the real problematic evens befall us all.
America, israel and the UK are not going to announce that there was a provocative new test. They all HEARD the boom. They ALL saw the meters.. They all KNOW JUST WHAT IS GOING ON.
We have to infer a part or two but WE can see the powers of the world moving against the AXIS OF EVIL America israel and UK.

I am not the only one thinking Nuke Test see

I actually saw an earthquake light just two feet away from me. This was in 1972. The location was 122 North Ridgewood Place, Los Angeles CA.
The year before (6:01 am on 9 Feb 1971) I lived through a 6.6 earthquake that destroyed part of my parents’ house and part of my elementary school, and killed 65 people. The epicenter was in the San Fernando Valley, about 15 miles away from me.
Anyway, the earthquake light I saw had no connection with that quake. In June 1972, I was standing in front of my parents’ house in Los Angeles at 8:00 pm, looking at the sky and thinking about nothing. In front of the house were two palm trees that grew next to the sidewalk.
Suddenly all the houses across the street were illuminated by a dazzling blue-white light as though someone was using a giant arc welder. I saw the shadows of the two palm trees (in front of my house) projected on the houses across the street, and instantly realized that the light was coming from behind me, even though there was only twenty feet between me and the front door of the house.
Whirling around, I saw a ball of light moving from my right to my left at the height of my chest, just two feet from me. It was the size of a basketball, and was a ball of sparks, like a TV screen tuned to a dead channel. It didn’t move straight; it arced or “swung” as though on a pendulum. It traveled a distance of thirty feet from my right to my left, and made a loud hissing noise. Then it vanished.
I stood there a second, my heart pounding, and then ran toward the front door, ducking under the place where the ball’s “trajectory” had been. Bursting inside the house, I slammed the door and told my brother what happened, but he didn’t believe me.
I wish to clarify a couple of things
1. I felt no “tingling sensation” on my skin
2. There was no earthquake involved
3. There were no telephone poles or any other electrical equipment nearby
4. I didn’t know about earthquake lights at the time.
What was it? I believe it was the result of subsurface activity. The Los Angeles area has many geological faults that cause tectonic stresses, which, I believe, can sometimes create a kind of piezoelectric effect, as you mentioned above. A piezoelectric discharge usually takes the form of electrical potential, but can sometimes manifest as balls of light.
Therefore, as you've noted, people often report balls of light flying around earthquake zones, or near active volcanoes. All earthquakes are electromagnetic effects as much as geological effects. Indeed, before an earthquake happens, the ground often gives off “precursor signals” (electromagnetic waves) that animals can feel, but humans cannot. That’s why animals sometime stampede from an area just before an earthquake hits.
I could be wrong about that ball of light I saw, but this is my only explanation for a bizarre event. Nobody else saw that ball of energy but me, and I’ve never met anyone who claims to have seen one up close.
..now that's a heart-pounder eh?
Too bad you didn't have a camera handy!
Perhaps that's because you have never bothered to look. The piezo-electric effect of crystalline structures under stress is well documented.
Where is the evidence to back up this assertion? Come to think of it, where is the evidence to back up any of your wacky theories? Given that you have claimed that there is not much in the 'evidence department' to back up the earthquake lights theory (which, by the way, is a phenomena that goes way back in time, long before nukes were ever dreamt of) but you don't regard it as necessary to back up the products of your own fertile imagination with anything resembling evidence.
What on earth is this supposed to mean?
What are you on about?
They won't, because there was no provocative new test, just a regular, run-of-the-mill nuke test.
Sure they do, Masher. I suppose they all have the standard issue tinfoil beanies too.
Who is 'we'? I for one can see no such thing. Russia has come the closest so far, but nowhere near what you appear to be suggesting.
What ever YOU say baby!
First you take D.C. Then you take New York
Is that the best you can do? How about backing up your claims with evidence? That would be a nice start.
All over his face, double click! LOL
