Pretoria is a city located in the northern part of Gauteng Province, South Africa. It is one of the country's three capital cities, serving as the executive (administrative) and official de facto capital.

I would love to grab a banjo and try to get Jimmy Carter to sing along on this old march tune. Not just for the hell of it, but simply because I think I could set him free from all those raging harpies that have besieged him since the recent publication of his controversial book, 'Peace, Not Apartheid'.
My only question to Jimmy would be, WHAT CONTROVERSY ? What can possibly be left to dispute, once one is aware of the inescapable fact of ISRAEL's integral historical relationship with APARTHEID SOUTH AFRICA ?
After a second look at that sordid affair, it becomes painfully obvious that cut and dried, 'black and white' evidence of apartheid was not the only situation with dire implications. What about a much more unsettling discovery, of a well established COLLABORATION, in NUCLEAR ARMS DEVELOPMENT and PROLIFERATION ?
I promised that I linked the following article for a third and LAST TIME, but as they say, there's a first and last time for everything. I just want you to picture three of the clowns in this picture - ( the one with the eyepatch beating a drum ), ( the ugly sucker in the shades blowing on a fife ) and ( the nice lookin' guy on the far right waving a South African flag ) being led by Mr. Vorster in a rousing parade to that venerable tune of 'Marching to Pretoria', and you will begin to get my drift.

I wish my old buddy Jimmy would just lean back on his porch swing and read that ENTIRE ARTICLE, in BOTH PARTS, while I softly strum my banjo in the background. And then, just tell me honestly, what part of it he just never knew about. Well, Jimmuh?
Judging from other responses I have NOT gotten to that piece, I have to wonder if anyone out there knows how to put two and two together anymore, if anyone ever did. So, I would like to offer a few more outtakes of another piece along these lines, in vain hopes that it might not fall on blinded eyes:

Possessing chemical and biological weapons, an extremely sophisticated nuclear arsenal, and an aggressive strategy for their actual use, Israel provides the major regional impetus for the development of weapons of mass destruction, and represents an acute threat to peace and stability in the Middle East.
The hypocrisy inherent in the condemnation of Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the obsessive focus on "rogue states" such as North Korea, while totally ignoring Israel's provocative arsenal, is BREATHTAKING.
The existence of the Israeli nuclear program is a serious impediment to meaningful nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament. The time is LONG OVERDUE for citizens concerned about sanctions against Iraq, peace with justice in the Middle East, and nuclear disarmament, to CONFRONT DIRECTLY the issue of ISRAELI WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION. { and this was written in 2001 ! }
THE ISRAELI BOMB
The Israeli nuclear program began in the Late 1940s. It was established at the Department of Isotope Research at the Weissman Institute of Science under the direction of Ernst David Bergmann, "the father of the ISRAELI BOMB," { yes folks, it DOES exist } who in 1952 established the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission.
From the very beginning the U.S. was HEAVILY INVOLVED in developing Israel's nuclear capability, training Israeli nuclear scientists and providing nuclear-related technology, including a small "research" reactor in 1955 under the "Atoms for Peace" program.
It was FRANCE, however, that provided the bulk of nuclear assistance to Israel, culminating in construction
of DIMONA, a heavy water-moderated, natural uranium reactor and plutonium reprocessing operation situated near Bersheeba in the Negev desert.
Israel had been active in the French nuclear weapons program from its inception, and provided critical technical expertise. Dimona became operational in 1964 and plutonium reprocessing began shortly thereafter. Despite Israeli claims that Dimona was "a manganese plant, or a textile factory," the extreme security measures employed belied the BOGUS CLAIMS
[In 1976, Israel shot down one of its own Mirage fighters, and in 1973 shot down a Libyan civilian airliner that approached too close to Dimona, killing 104.'
There is substantial credible speculation that Israel may have exploded at least one, and perhaps several, nuclear devices in the mid-1960s in the Negev near the Israeli-Egyptian border, and that it participated actively in French nuclear tests in Algeria.
By the time of the Yom Kippur War in 1973, Israel possessed an arsenal of perhaps several dozen deliverable atomic bombs and it went on full nuclear alert.] { Alright, folks, let's skip the history and cut to the chase }---
Possessing advanced nuclear technology and top nuclear scientists, Israel was confronted early with a major problem ---HOW TO OBTAIN the NECESSARY URANIUM.
Israel's own uranium source was the phosphate deposits in the Negev, totally inadequate to meet the need of a rapidly expanding program. The short-term answer was to mount commando raids in France and Britain to successfully hijack uranium shipments, and in the 1967 "Plumbatt Affair", to collaborate with West Germany in diverting 200 TONS OF YELLOW CAKE (uranium oxide). These clandestine acquisitions of uranium for Dimona were subsequently covered up by the countries involved.
There was also an allegation that a U.S. corporation, Nuclear Materials and Equipment Corporation (NUMEC), diverted hundreds of pounds of enriched uranium to Israel from the mid-1950s to the mid-1960s. Despite an FBI and CIA investigation, and congressional hearings, NO ONE WAS EVER PROSECUTED, although most other investigators believed the diversion had occurred. { ok, HERE'S THE BEEF }:
In the late 1960s, Israel SOLVED THE URANIUM PROBLEM by developing CLOSE TIES WITH SOUTH AFRICA in a quid pro quo arrangement whereby Israel supplied the technology and expertise for the "APARTHEID BOMB,"

( SOUTH AFRICA AND THE US ) In 1977, the Soviet Union warned the U.S. that satellite photos indicated South Africa was planning a nuclear test in the Kalahari desert. The APARTHEID REGIME BACKED DOWN under pressure from the CARTER ADMINISTRATION.... { could that mean YOU, Mister Jimmuh ? } {... banjo still plunkin' away...}
On September 22, 1979, a U.S. satellite detected an atmospheric test of a small thermonuclear bomb in the Indian Ocean off South Africa, but because of Israel's involvement the report was quickly whitewashed by a carefully selected scientific panel, kept in the dark about important details. Later it was learned through Israeli sources that there were actually three tests of miniaturized Israeli nuclear artillery shells.
THE ISRAELI / SOUTH AFRICAN COLLABORATION DID NOT END with the bomb testing, but continued UNTIL THE FALL OF APARTHEID, especially with the developing and testing of medium range missiles and advanced artillery. In addition to uranium and test facilities, South Africa provided Israel with large amounts of INVESTMENT CAPITAL, while Israel provided a major TRADE OUTLET, undermining the international economic SANCTIONS imposed on the APARTHEID REGIME...

A late discovery of note......I was pleasantly surprised to find the gentleman responsible for the latest U.N. report, notably Mr. John Dugard, quoted at length in the above article by Chris McGreal, from last year. The particular segment, from Pt. 2, above, is as follows:
-"But South African apartheid was more than just separation. "Apartheid was all about land," says John Dugard, the South African lawyer and UN human rights monitor. "Apartheid was about keeping the best parts of the country for the whites and sending the blacks to the least habitable, least desirable parts of the country. And one sees that all the time here...... [in the occupied territories], particularly with the wall, now, which is really a land grab. One sees Palestinians dispossessed of their homes by bulldozers. One can draw certain parallels with respect to South Africa that, during the heyday of apartheid, population relocation did result in destruction of property, but not on the same scale as the devastation in Gaza in particular, [or in] the West Bank."

This is an interesting story, but by now everybody is aware of Israel's thermonuclear arsenal and the most obvious quarry for the raw uranium ore had to be South Africa. This does not mean that Israel and S.A. collaborated in developing apartheid too, though; if anything S.A. has nominally given it all up passing the post to that crypto Fallasha Jew by the name of Mandel-a.
Less known is, however, where the Soviets got their uranium ore for their phenomenal development of a nuclear arsenal. The Ural Mountains you say? Not right at the beginning, when the Bolsheviks had their fangs still fast on East Germany's neck. Right, the Bolshevik Bomb was built thanks to the East Germans' toils in the Erzgebirge mountain region at the border with (then) Czechoslovakia. If you go to Aue in the Erzgebirge you will come across huge dismissed (and now flooded with water) uranium mines. Because the Erzgebirge is full of heavy metal ores of the bismuth family, thus not only the silver that made the fortunes of the saxon kings but also the uranium that made the misery of countless east german families. There is one valley in the Erzgebirge region near Aue called 'the valley of the widows'. Why? You guessed it, that's where the Bolshevik extracted most of their early uranium ore, on the East Germans' skins.

Fester - Many thanks for that link to a fabulous interview with Prof. James Dickie, which touches on very early Jewish inroads to South Africa - notably the resettled Jews of Holland - and Zionist establishment of control over the gold and diamond trade to be found there.
It seems to me the name Bantustan for the S.A. black peoples' homelands is a completely made up, pejorative term for those apartheid- created geographical entities. Look up the wikipedia article I linked to and you will see the names of the homelands are completely different.
So now comes the question: who invented such a term? For the '-stan' ending is typical of Central Asia, not S.Africa, and is a turkik word (not persian, like the wikipedia article purports) meaning 'land of'. So maybe the word was coined by a central-asian elite, ... the usual one? The ball is in your field, Quasimodo, up to you to investigate.

The Bantustan project would ensure white control over the greatest and best lands while defeating the so-called “black demographic threat” by expelling 3 million blacks into the so-called homelands.
For Palestinians in the ’67 Occupied Territories, BANTUSTANIZATION was an ISRAELI GOAL, the VERY YEAR of OCCUPATION of the West Bank and Gaza, expressed in the ALON PLAN, which the Wall’s path today closely demarcates. "I saw what interested him: BANTUSTANS, as if it were just an intellectual interest," he said. "He had a FIXATION with bantustans that seemed out of proportion…If you tell him it failed in South Africa, he'll say that it didn't work there because of the disproportion between blacks and whites, but that here [the Jews] are still a MAJORITY."

Also, a publication produced by former Israeli Minister of Tourism Benny Alon called “The Road to War: A Tiny Protectorate, Overpopulated, Carved up and Demilitarized” is presented according to SHARON'S PLAN. The MAP in the publication looks much like the PLAN for Bantustans in South Africa in the early 60s and even included the same number of cantons: 10. But, this plan is not Sharon’s, it in fact belongs to the Labor General YIGAL ALON.
