The Subtle Seeds of the Terror War (1986)

The Subtle Seeds of the Terror War (1986)

By:  Peter Chamberlin

The primary beneficiaries of the terror war are the old money and the power elite, who alone will remain standing after the final sifting-down process has concentrated all wealth into a few hands.  It is inaccurate to blame it all on the Zionist bankers, or a Jewish conspiracy even though there is a preponderance of Jewish financiers and many key positions within the conspiracy are held by Jewish intellectuals.   Nonetheless, the Zionists are the key to the unfolding drama.  Israeli domination of the Middle East has always been the focus of the terror war, even when the focus of that thirty year old war was the Soviets.  The international elite (the super-wealthy of all races) will be the final sifters of everyone’s wealth, with the CIA serving them, offering-up the Jews as a scapegoat or a distraction, to deflect blame away from the agency.

The CIA parallel government which spawned the Iran/contra drugs/arms/money/public diplomacy pipeline kept the illegal network intact after Iran/contra, to fund its creation of an “Islamic militant network” and to use them to create the war on terror.  This agency is bent on serving the evil internationalist elite, instead of the American people and the Constitution they have all swore to uphold.  The mysterious death of reporter Steve Kangas, who explored the deep connections between the CIA and the corporate world, and the New Right, is a warning to all who will follow that it is dangerous to explore some truth.  http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-overclass.html

For those of you in search of this dangerous knowledge, follow me into the labyrinth, as I use the recently released “Lost Chapter” from the Iran/Contra commission report  http://www.consortiumnews.com/2008/062908.html     to throw a little light into the dark world which holds us all captive.  I can confirm that some parts of the story revealed therein are true, because I was there, seeking to help my country, serving as an unwitting part of a network that was created to bring democratic freedom to an end in America and the world.

At that time (1985-1988), I was approached by many groups because I had previously switched my activist loyalties from the Democrats and the “nuclear freeze” issue to Reagan and the “peace through strength” doctrine.  I saw his plan to spend the Soviets into submission as the safest way to end the cold war.  As a mouthy, hard-hitting activist/writer, I was considered “ripe” for recruitment into the leadership levels of the conservative movement.

From 1985 to 1986, I wrote articles and letters, and lobbied for aid to groups that were depicted as “freedom fighters” at that time, in Central America and Afghanistan.  I was a hard-core advocate for the Afghan Mujahedeen, in their fight against the Soviets.  I contributed to, and was part of the Committee for a Free Afghanistan (CFA), which was either a lobbying group or a political action committee PAC.  I believed that it was the right thing to do at the time (and still do), to support brave Afghan men who were fighting to expel a Communist occupation.  I saw it as a reflection of our own anti-colonialist revolution.  I support all anti-colonialist freedom fighters.

Because of my activist activities to end the cluster-bombing of Afghan children, I was approached to do the same thing on behalf of the anti-Sandinista “Contras” in Central America, who were allegedly fighting the same anti-Communist fight.  A good friend and mentor, Jerome Distel, from my hometown, was a member of Heritage Foundation's "President's Club," an exclusive group with a $1,000 membership, which promised  exclusive access to the Reagan Administration.  I remembered the classy invitation he had received to the event, after seeing it again in the “Lost Chapter” of the Congressional contra investigation report:

“A typical invitation to a briefing stated in pertinent part:

‘You are one of a small group of dedicated

Americans who has stood by President Reagan . . . in

support of his agenda . .. It will be a pleasure

to meet you in Washington on [date] when you attend

our special security briefing followed by a working

dinner . . . Please be reminded that your

accommodations at the Hay Adams Hotel are taken care

of and there is no expense to you.’”

Mr. Distel invited me to be his aide (pushing his wheelchair) at this Heritage Foundation conference and fund-raising dinner in Washington for the contras, in early 1986.  United States Ambassador to The United Nations Jeanne Kirkpatrick would be giving a speech at the banquet.  I understood that the purpose of the conference was to solicit public funds for the “pipeline” that supplied money and supplies to the contras to kill Soviet advisors and their revolutionary allies in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.  The plan was to start there and to sweep-out all the Soviet military forces from Central America, southward, all the way to Columbia.  I was ok with that, seeing it as an extension of the anti-Communist war.

The “Democracy Project” for Central America may have failed with the prosecution of the crimes committed by key members of “the enterprise,” but the pipeline that they created to move the money, fighters, guns and equipment, is still there today, moving their biggest product, drugs, “candy” for America and the rest of the world.  (See: Cocaine planes make a "Bogotá Connection")   http://narcosphere.narconews.com/node/2142

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oszATUJ4IRE                                                       “CIA, Guantanamo, Torture, Cocaine”

The pipeline in Afghanistan and Pakistan is still there as well, running at full capacity all these years, moving all those nasty money-makers and life-takers through it, fomenting the “war on terrorism” that we are told to believe that it is no fault of our own.  It is the men, materiel and opium which moves freely through this CIA pipeline that haunts American, NATO and Pakistani troops there today.

That Washington conference marked the beginning of my disillusionment with the contras and with the entire “conservative” movement in general.  Because of the over-whelming creepy vibe given-off at that meeting of fat cats and wannabes, who were looking to hire Nicaraguan hit men to do America’s dirty work (and the simultaneously unfolding disclosure that the Contras were terrorists operating death squads and drug rings), I began to sense that the whole effort was really something of a completely opposite nature.  It was not an anti-colonialist movement at all.  Everything was a deception.  This was the empire striking back at homegrown resistance movements.

The Heritage Foundation conference, which was allegedly for Catholic aid groups serving Central America, is documented in the “Lost Chapter” manuscript:

http://www.consortiumnews.com/lostchapter.pdf

“[the network, with] continuing help from Oliver North, created an inter-governmental structure the purposes and activities of which were masked from

Congress and public view... hired outside consultants and gave

encouragement, support and direction to groups of private

citizens outside the government. These groups raised money for

Contra weapons, lobbied the Congress, ran sophisticated media...

Campaigns...worked with S/LPD to influence American public opinion through manipulation of the American press... a network of private foundations and organizations. used White House briefings and private meetings with the President to raise more than $10,000,000 from private contributors, almost all for the Contra cause.

Approximately $1.7 million was ‘washed’ by Channell through Miller's domestic and Cayman Island entities International Business Communications (IBC) and I.C., Inc. --to the Enterprise, where it was co-mingled with funds from third country contributions and the Iranian arms sale.

The Miller/Channell network was able to operate successfully until the latter part of 1986, when increased government aid to the Contras and public disclosure of

both the Iranian arms sales and the Contra resupply network made

further assistance efforts unnecessary and unwise.

Frank Gomez was to write talking point papers on Central America; prepare speaker kits; identify and refute distortions and false allegations regarding U.S. policy; draft sample speeches; prepare Op/Ed pieces and feature articles; assist Central American refugees and exiles visiting Washington; arrange media events for them; and make them available for Congressional interviews.

Roy Godson and the Heritage Foundation...raise money for the Catholic Church in Nicaragua...The format used in raising money for the Nicaraguan Refugee Fund --a White House briefing followed by a

function at the Hay Adams Hotel.

The briefing was held...in the Old Executive Office Building with North as the principal speaker...After the briefing, the potential donor group was taken across the street for a reception and dinner at the Hay Adams Hotel... These group briefings occurred on October 17, 1985; November 21, 1985; January 30, 1986; and March 27, 1986.

Edwin J. Feulner, President of the Heritage Foundation...would be donating

$100,000 to Heritage and the Catholic Church in Central America...the funds were to be transferred indirectly to the Catholic Church via a transfer from the Heritage Foundation to INSI.

The Heritage grant to INSI would be used [for] the dissemination in Central America of

materials designed to educate the public on the

political and economic realities of United States policy objectives, and the collection of

scholarly responses to the materials...[which would be used for public diplomacy in the US, to inform the American people] on the Central American view of United States foreign and economic policy and how it relates to the political and economic future of Central American countries.

Select the scholars to participate in this program from among U.S. and Central American figures.

After Heritage transferred the $100,000 to INSI, Miller instructed INSI to transfer $80,000 of the grant to his Cayman Islands account from which funds were withdrawn as directed by North...that at least some of the money was transferred to Lake Resources.”

The Lost Report confirms what I have only suspected over the past twenty years, I was part of the Iran/Contra network and witnessed first-hand one of Oliver North’s slide presentations, pimping for the world empire.  The only thing I remember from that presentation is that it was given by some guy in a uniform, who showed some satellite images of big Soviet airbases, allegedly in Nicaragua.  (We were seated in the “nose bleed” upper section.)

In the next two years after the conference, I was invited to join a plethora of New Right organizations, think tanks, even a couple of PACs (political action committees): the Free Congress Research and Education Foundation, Committee for the Survival of a Free Congress, Committee for a Free Afghanistan, Young Americans for Freedom, Council for National Policy, Concerned Women for America, even the Republican National Committee.  The thing that kept me from joining-up with most of them was the requests for donations.

Most of these committees and think tanks were sponsored by Heritage.  I found this revealing explanation of the explosion of opportunities that had been offered to me:

“The Heritage Foundation has coordinated the meetings for a newly formed group called Third Generation. It is a group of young conservatives (born after 1952) attempting to develop an even more conservative agenda than their ‘elders.’”                                           http://rightweb.irc-online.org/groupwatch/hf_body.html

Obviously, from the many political offers that had been flowing in since the Heritage event, I had been hand-picked by the political gurus associated with Heritage for that group (born in 1953).

All of these organizations contributed to and solicited money for the private network described in the Lost Chapter revelation.

“On December 14, 1986, the Lowell (Mass.) Sun ran a story under the headline ‘Money from Iranian Arms Sales Was Used to Back Conservatives During 1986 Election.’ The story stated that ‘[a]bout $5 million from the almost $30 million in excess raised from arms sales to Iran was filtered to conservative political action groups’ to ‘support candidates who backed President Reagan's pro-Contra and Star Wars policies.’

The State Department was used to run a prohibited, domestic, covert propaganda operation...

The Administration's redefinition of the term ‘public diplomacy’--especially its use in ‘educating’ the American public--and the longstanding statutory prohibition on the domestic dissemination by the U.S. Information Agency (USIA) of its materials to the American people. Under the terms of section 501 of the Smith-Mundt Act (the United States Information and Educational Exchange act of 1948, as amended--P.L. 80-402), USIA and its predecessor agencies have been enjoined from propagandizing the American people.”

[According to Smith-Mundt:

“The Smith-Mundt ban on domestic propaganda has been broadened over the years by subsequent legislation.  The Foreign Relations Authorization Act of 1972 amended the Smith-Mundt Act to include a ban on disseminating within the United States any ‘information about the United States, its people, and its policies’ prepared for dissemination abroad. The Zorinsky Amendment added a new prohibition: ‘no funds authorized to be appropriated to the United States Information Agency shall be used to influence public opinion in the United States, and no program material prepared by the United States Information Agency shall be distributed within the United States.”          http://publicdiplomacy.wikia.com/wiki/Smith_Mundt_Act    ]

http://law.jrank.org/pages/7785/Iran-Contra-Affair.html

“In March 1988, GRAND JURY indictments were brought against North, Poindexter, Richard V. Secord, and Albert Hakim. The indictments included four distinct charges: conspiring to obstruct the U.S. government; diverting public funds from arms sales to Iran to aid the Contras in Nicaragua; stealing public funds for private ends; and lying to Congress and other government officials. With the exception of the routine criminal charge of theft, the most serious points in the indictments essentially accused the defendants of conducting a private foreign policy in violation of constitutional norm.”

As revealed in Lost Chapter:

“National Security Decision Directive 77

the issuing in January 1983 of National Security Decision Document (NSDD) 77, an NSC policy paper on the management of public diplomacy "relative to national security"...is classified, an unclassified version, released in March 1983:

A Special Planning Group (SPG) responsible for overall planning, direction, coordination, and monitoring of public diplomacy activities;

The Public Affairs/Nuclear Committee, to plan and coordinate on a regular basis U.S. Government domestic public affairs activities relating to foreign policy and national security issues (including countering the U.S. nuclear freeze movement);

The International Information Committee, to plan, coordinate, and implement international information activities in support of U.S.

The International Political Committee, to plan, coordinate, and implement international activities in support of U.S. policies and interests, including the interagency effort to support the growth of democracy abroad. It provides the nexus for the policymaking and information functions and formulates broad public diplomacy strategies for key issues and interests...to direct the concerned departments and agencies to implement political action strategies in support of key policy objectives

0liver North was reportedly named head of Project Democracy's covert arm 1n October 1983, after McFarlane was appointed National Security Adviser.

[A] Saudi Prince who proposed donating to the Contras $14 million of profits derived from the sale of Saudi oil. North referred the Prince who used a variety of pseudonyms, the most common of which was Ebrahim al-Masoudi   [probably Bandar]

On April 26, 1985, Miller and Gomez incorporated a Cayman Islands corporation known as I.C., Inc. [RM 1136-44]. This entity originally was intended to receive the profits from the transactions conducted with the Prince.

In May 1986, Miller changed the name of I.C.,

Inc., to "Intel Co-Operation, Inc.,"

Miller and Gomez formed another Cayman Islands corporation in early May 1986, World Affairs Counselors, Inc. (WACI), to receive the compensation approved by North.

In addition to using the participants in the network to promote the enterprise, North used the occasion to create disinformation about the network and to refute negative news stories about the work being done:

“[North] also told an anecdote about some Nicaraguan agents that were recently caught with dope and money and so forth and disguised as American agents."

[Eugene H. Hasenfus (born January 22, 1941 in Florida) is a United States citizen who was an unemployed construction worker from Marinette, Wisconsin who secured work as a cargo handler for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)....He was aboard the Fairchild C-123 cargo plane shot down over Nicaragua on October 5, 1986, while delivering supplies to the Nicaraguan Contras.

Hasenfus' capture and detention helped uncover and publicize the Iran-Contra Affair. A black book of phone numbers in the wreckage tied the plane to an operation run out of Ilopango airbase in El Salvador, supported by anti-Castro exile Felix Rodriguez. Press speculation focused on former general Jack Singlaub as the sponsor; this was encouraged by Oliver North to divert attention from the true head: Richard Secord.]

“The President, in his March 19, 1987 press conference said that he believed that contributors he met had donated money for political advertising for the Contras. [New York Times, 3/20/87]... He stated, ‘What about the private groups who pay for ads for the Contras?’

A ‘big ticket items’ list was prepared by North and used by him and Channell in a solicitation off Nelson Bunker Hunt.

In September 1985, Channell arranged a meeting in Dallas between North and Nelson Bunker Hunt...Hunt made two payments to NEPL, the tax-exempt National Endowment for the Preservation of Liberty, of $237,500 each.”

Nelson Bunker Hunt and William Herbert Hunt, as well as fellow billionaire and ultra right-wing zealot Joseph Coors, were the primary sponsors for many of the neo-fascist “conservative” organizations that comprise the “new right,” including the Heritage Foundation, most radical of these were the John Birch Society, the Council for National Policy and the World Anti-Communist League.

A famous name associated with the WACL is another “Contragate” figure, Major General John Singlaub was the head of the World Anti-Communist League in the late seventies:   http://watch.pair.com/jbs-cnp.html

"It has since become something far more important: an instrument for the practice of unconventional warfare -- assassinations, death squads, sabotage -- throughout the world." Not only did the WACL adopt the techniques used by Nazis, but the Eastern European Nazi network as well...

there is a third type of Nazi, who is far more powerful, public, and dangerous than the other two: these are the Croatians, Slovaks, Ukrainians, Latvians who carried out the German-dictated massacres, who never faced a Nuremberg, and who joined the World Anti-Communist League... With the creations of the World Anti-Communist League, there came into existence a worldwide network of fascism..."

The first American League Chapter of the WACL was the American Council for World Freedom (ACWF)... Roger Pearson, served as the American League president for three years... ...Pearson has traveled in New Right circles for many years, formerly as an editorial associate for such mainstream organizations as the Heritage Foundation and the American Security Council... On the other [hand], he is a white supremacist who warns of the dangers of whites breeding with 'inferior' stock... world chairman of the World Anti-Communist League in 1978...”

Pearson was brought to the U.S. in 1965 by Willis Carto, founder of the neo-fascist Institute for Historical Review (which denies the Holocaust) and the anti-Semitic Liberty Lobby, which publishes the weekly Spotlight newspaper.     Roger Pearson...(allegedly) Josef Mengele's co-researcher at Auschwitz,

"In addition to homegrown agitators who dredged up anti-Semitic motifs that harkened back to the 1930s...(Paul Weyrich and Free Congress Foundation named)”   http://watch.pair.com/jbs-cnp.html

“In 1984, Singlaub headed a Pentagon panel called to make recommendations on conducting military activities in Central America. The panel's report urged the U.S. to emphasize nonconventional, counterinsurgency warfare strategies....

[Singlaub] became CIA deputy chief in South Korea during the Korean War and served for two years in Vietnam during the 1960s. At that time, he was commander of the Joint Unconventional Warfare Task Force, known as MACSOG, a political murder unit, in that role, he was one of the commanders of Operation Phoenix...a terrorist and drug operation in Southwest Asia which would form the experiential basis for the later theatre of operation: Latin America.   Oliver North and Richard Secord were officers of the MACSOG unit.  Other infamous underworld types, ‘former’ military and CIA officers, were involved with this unit: Felix I. Rodriguez, Ted Shackley and Donald Gregg:

This bunch became the heart of the 'Enterprise'’ that went into action 15 to 20 years later in Iran- Contra. Shackley funded opium-growing Meo tribesmen in murder, and used the dope proceeds in turn to fund his hit squads. He formed the Military Assistance Group-Special Operations Group (MAG-SOG)... By 1971, the Shackley group had killed about 100,000 civilians in Southeast Asia as part of the CIA's Operation Phoenix."   [other names in this the Phoenix group are: Thomas Clines,  Richard Armitage,  Edwin Wilson, Jerry O. Daniels, Hynnie Aderholdt, Ed Dearborn]

According to researcher Daniel Sheehan: http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/JFKsheehan.htm

“Because Theodore Shackley, Thomas Clines and Richard Armitage knew that their secret anti-communist extermination program was going to be shut down in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand in the very near future, they, in 1973, began a highly secret non-CIA authorized program. Thus, from late 1973 until April of 1975, Theodore Shackley, Thomas Clines and Richard Armitage disbursed, from the secret, Laotian-based, Vang Pao opium fund, vastly more money than was required to finance even the highly intensified Phoenix Project in Vietnam. The money in excess of that used in Vietnam was secretly smuggled out of Vietnam in large suitcases, by Richard Secord and Thomas Clines and carried into Australia, where it was deposited in a secret, personal bank account (privately accessible to Theodore Shackley, Thomas Clines and Richard Secord). During this same period of time between 1973 and 1975, Theodore Shackley and Thomas Clines caused thousands of tons of US weapons, ammunition, and explosives to be secretly taken from Vietnam and stored at a secret ‘cache’ hidden inside Thailand.

From 1975 to 1977, Armitage held this post in Thailand. However, he did not perform the duties of this office. Instead, Armitage continued to function as the ‘bursar’ for Theodore Shackley's ‘Secret Team,’ seeing to it that secret Vang Pao opium funds were conducted from Laos, through Armitage in Thailand to both Tehran and the secret Shackley bank account in Australia at the Nugen-Hand Bank.

From 1977 until 1979, Armitage remained in Bangkok opening and operating a business named The Far East Trading Company. This company had offices only in Bangkok and in Washington, D.C. This company was, in fact, from 1977 to 1979, merely a ‘front’ for Armitage's secret operations conducting Vang Pao opium money out of Southeast Asia to Tehran and the Nugen-Hand Bank in Australia to fund the ultra right-wing, private anti-communist ‘anti-terrorist’ assassination program and ‘unconventional warfare’ operation of Theodore Shackley's and Thomas Cline's ‘Secret Team.’

Between 1976 and 1979, Shackley, Clines, Secord, Hakim, Wilson, and Armitage set up several corporations and subsidiaries around the world through which to conceal the operations of the ‘Secret Team.’ Many of these corporations were set up in Switzerland. Among these was Lake Resources, Inc...Through these corporations, members of Theodore Shackley's ‘Secret Team’ laundered hundreds of millions of dollars of secret Vang Pao opium money, pilfered Foreign Military Sales proceeds between 1976 and 1979.”

According to testimony from former Congressman Charlie Wilson (from Charlie Wilson’s  War, by George Crile), Ed Wilson, of the Secret Team went with him to Nicaragua, to meet with President Somoza, seeking Soviet-style weapons to ship to the Mujahedeen.  Congressman Wilson heard “retired” CIA dirty tricks officer Ed Wilson offer the General an army of one-thousand “retired” agents for $100,000 each, to take care of their Sandinista problem.  The claim that these agents were rogues, acting for pure profit on their own, does not hold water when you consider that wherever their handiwork has shown-up around the world over the past thirty years it has always been while performing duties in service of American foreign policy.

From the Lost Chapter:

“Funds belonging to IBC were at various times transferred directly or through another Hiller/Gomez corporation called Intel-Cooperation to Richard Secord's Swiss bank account 1n the name of Lake Resources, Inc.”

After Vietnam, Richard Secord and the rest of the “Secret Team” spread their network throughout Southeast Asia.  After Contragate, this network multiplied in this region as well as in the Americas:

“The recent ‘color revolutions’ in Georgia, Ukraine, and Kyrgyzstan and the widespread suspicion that U.S. groups such as the National Democratic Institute (NDI), the International Republican Institute (IRI), Freedom House [led by former CIA head James Woolsley, of Project for New American Century fame] and the Open Society Institute [created in 1993 by investor George Soros] played a key behind-the-scenes role in fomenting these upheavals have clearly helped trigger the backlash.”  http://www.foreignaffairs.org/20060301faessay85205/thomas-carothers/the-backlash-against-democracy-promotion.html

http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=762                                         “In one former Soviet Republic, Azerbaijan, Arab Afghan jihadis clearly assisted this effort of U.S. oil companies to penetrate the region. In 1991, Richard Secord, Heinie Aderholt, and Ed Dearborn, three veterans of U.S. operations in Laos, and later of Oliver North's operations with the Contras, turned up in Baku under the cover of an oil company, MEGA Oil.  This was at a time when the first Bush administration had expressed its support for an oil pipeline stretching from Azerbaijan across the Caucasus to Turkey... Secord explains in his memoir how Aderholt and himself were occasionally seconded to the CIA as CIA detailees. Secord describes his own service as a CIA detailee with Air America in first Vietnam and then Laos, in cooperation with the CIA Station Chief Theodore Shackley... Secord later worked with Oliver North to supply arms and materiel to the Contras in Honduras, and also developed a small air force for them, using many former Air America pilots... As MEGA operatives in Azerbaijan, Secord, Aderholt, Dearborn, and their men engaged in military training, passed ‘brown bags filled with cash’ to members of the government, and above all set up an airline on the model of Air America which soon was picking up hundreds of mujahedin mercenaries in Afghanistan... .) Meanwhile, Hekmatyar, who at the time was still allied with bin Laden, was "observed recruiting Afghan mercenaries [i.e. Arab Afghans] to fight in Azerbaijan against Armenia and its Russian allies.’[20] At this time, heroin flooded from Afghanistan through Baku into Chechnya, Russia, and even North America... . ‘Over the course of the next two years, [MEGA Oil] procured thousands of dollars worth of weapons and recruited at least two thousand Afghan mercenaries for Azerbaijan - the first mujahedin to fight on the territory of the former Communist Bloc’.. A fourth operative in MEGA Oil, Gary Best, was also a veteran of North's Contra support effort... It was also a time when Congress, under pressure from Armenian voters, had banned all military aid to Azerbaijan (under Section 907 of the Freedom Support Act)...

Washington Post article did belatedly note that a group of American men who wore "big cowboy hats and big cowboy boots" had arrived in Azerbaijan as military trainers for its army, followed in 1993 by "more than 1,000 guerrilla fighters from Afghanistan's radical prime minister, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar." (Washington Post, 4/21/94) Richard Secord was allegedly attempting also to sell Israeli arms, with the assistance of Israeli agent David Kimche, another associate of Oliver North.” - Peter Dale Scott, Drugs, Oil, and War.

From these exploits in the Caspian Sea region, the “Secret Team” transported Hekmatyr’s troops and thousands of other Afghan veterans, as well as Iranian militias to places like Albania, Bosnia and Croatia.  (See: “Bill Clinton: First Neocon President”)              http://www.bestcyrano.org/THOMASPAINE/?p=143

“Soon after the liberation of Kabul, their man, Hezb-i-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar     http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/entity.jsp?entity=gulbuddin_hekmatyar

(long the main recipient of CIA weaponry) started the Afghan civil war, by firing rockets at Kabul.’

Clinton began a covert operation with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Pakistan, to send money and arms to Bosnia-Herzegovina.  According to a lengthy Congressional report by the Republican Party Committee,  http://www.srpska-mreza.com/Bosnia/bodansky2.html   published in 1997 (while the Republicans were pre-occupied with learning about the president’s sexual habits), the Clinton administration ‘helped turn Bosnia into a militant Islamic base,’ by recruiting and arming thousands of Mujahideen through the ‘Militant Islamic Network’ (a.k.a. ‘al Qaida’).  The report then went on to claim administration ‘…complicity in the delivery of weapons from Iran to the Muslim government in Sarajevo.., involvement with the Islamic network's arms pipeline… (and using Muslim ‘charity’ groups who were) connected with such fixtures of the Islamic terror network as Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman (the convicted mastermind behind the 1993 World Trade Center bombing) and Osama Bin Laden…” [Washington Post, 9/22/96]

The result was an illegal “Iran-Contra style operation” in Albania   http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.php?context=va&aid=369    which utilized Iranian militants and elements of Al Qaida http://www.srpska-   mreza.com/Bosnia/bodansky2.html   (under the direct command of Al Qaida “number two” Ayman al-Zawahiri), to smuggle weapons and mujahedeen though Croatia into Bosnia.  This secret program was later duplicated with the Kosovo Liberation Army, and again in nearby Macedonia, as well as in Chechnya.

According to author and researcher Yossef Bodansky  http://www.amazon.com/Bin-Laden-Man-Declared-America/dp/0761535810

“In Bosnia, the Islamists staged attacks upon fellow Muslims in order to elicit international sympathy and thus intervention.  The outcomes of these actions effectively converted NATO into the Islamists’ air force, the Western press into their propaganda organs, and American troops into their proxy forces.”

The Saudis provided most of the “legitimate” money for the covert program in Yugoslavia (just as they had matched all US funds to the original Mujahedeen), the Iranians supplied the arms, and the Pakistan Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) brought the “Afghan-Arab” veterans to the fight.  The ISI is widely known as a surrogate of the CIA, https://www.vedamsbooks.com/no44627.htm - 5k -

Today, we face the results of all of these years of the CIA’s program to train an Islamic army to wage war against America and her allies.  This intelligence operation to serve the elitist plan for forcing a global dictatorship on the people of the earth is running full throttle at this time, as we are hurried along to our demise.  This low intensity conflict is raging in Afghanistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Iran, and Somalia, everywhere that American boys are killing and dieing for the enterprise.

Bush has breathed new life into the American/Saudi/Pakistani Islamist network as the foundation for his covert war against Iran.  (See: “Preparing the Battlefield,” Seymour Hersh)   http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/07/07/080707fa_fact_hersh     He is using Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan as bases of operation, from which to train and launch trained Sunni terrorists into Iran, using both military and CIA resources.  This means that the Secret Team is probably training and transporting Islamic mercenaries all over Pakistan and the Caucasus region, just as they were probably the primary contractors for the movement of jihadis into Serbian territory.  This is the direction Bush’s war against Iran will likely take.  This is the nature of the conflict called for in the “Iran War Resolution, H. CON. RES. 362:  http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=hc110-362

“Expressing the sense of Congress regarding the threat posed to international peace, stability in the Middle East, and the vital national security interests of the United States by Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons and regional hegemony, and for other purposes...”

“Demands that the President initiate an international effort to...prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program.”

This resolution is nothing less than a declaration of war against Iran.  If we the People are to have any chance at all of stopping this final escalation of the elitist plans for world conquest, by unleashing their cherished world war, then it will be through the use of verifiable evidence like the “Lost Chapter.”  The evidence that this missing piece of the puzzle brings into the picture clarifies our understanding of one of the black roots of the criminal conspiracy between the corporate elitists and the CIA and its many subsidiary foreign intelligence agencies, that is purposely destroying this Nation for the clear purpose of forcing us to submit to an immoral world government.

"That Washington conference marked the beginning of my disillusionment with the contras and with the entire “conservative” movement in general. This was the empire striking back at homegrown resistance movements."

This is very interesting but a little confusing. When referring to "homegrown resistance movments" are you referring to the Sandinistas for example? If so are you saying the Sandinistas were/are not communist? The FMLN?

And I'm further confused. I remember the cover pages of Time, Newspeak, etc., declaring the Contras as "Death Squads". If I assume the "empire" encompasses the MSM, yet, the Contras are to be sold  by O. North, etc., as anti-communist good guys in the spirit of Reagan, (I actually attended a function in Silicon Valley and witnessed him doing this) how can this be deception from your point of view if the MSN was publicizing what the Contras really are? Or is this the "simultaneous disclosure" you mention? If so what does that mean? How can the MSM disclosing something be meaningful if they are controlled by the same "empire" you have discovered you have been decieved by? Is the conclusion then that the Central American Soviet-communist presence was/is indeed real but the "empires" answer to it, the Contras in Nicaraqua for example, was a contrived stunt, funded by Heritage Foundation donations to create a "pipeline" for, as you say, ongoing nefarious purposes to this day such as the "candy route"?

Your essay is quite complete in the naming of names and their respective historical beginnings.

I wonder, though, whether many of these "field commanders", such as North and Secord, are truly aware of the end game of One World Government or are they caught up in the 'rah, rah' of playing soldier and conducting behind the scene deals and fomenting regional anarchy. I interpret  both positions in your essay.

Perhaps these gentlemen are delighted in being lap dogs for the elite and somehow feel confident that an important position will be reserved for them in the New World Government.  If history repeats, however, they may wake up one day and discover how they have been masterfully duped; played like they so cleverly played other's.

There are always men who are willing to sell out so they can buy comfort, prestige, status and a place in the sun. This is why the Money Lenders always succeed in corrupting society...because they get all the money and they get to buy people (Whores), to do their bidding.

Money Lending, fractional reserve banking and fiat currencies are the heart and core of their system enabling them to create their corrupt world system and corrupting everything. The door to usury was legally opened by Calvin during the Protestant Reformation...since then the corruption has set in.

Today most of us glorify people who have made lots of money, or we envy them...even if they have made money through war and destruction (no ethics), if they have a expensive car, house...they are admired by the youth...this is how deep the corruption of our society goes. These people should be looked at as criminals and jailed, but we are indoctrinated to admire them and their 'value structure'.

Lying is their game, and Power is their goal. Make War By Way of Deception

Total Coverage: The CIA, Contras, and Drugs

News: The CIA-coke connection was detailed long before Dark Alliance -- and the evidence keeps coming

By Eric Umansky

August 25, 1998

You may have seen the headline last month on the front page of the NEW YORK TIMES. (Then again, you may not have, since it ran in a small box on the bottom-left corner.) It announced, "CIA Says It Used Nicaraguan Rebels Accused of Drug Tie." The beginning of that story read:

"The CIA continued to work with about two dozen Nicaraguan rebels and their supporters during the 1980s despite allegations they were trafficking in drugs.... [T]he agency's decision to keep those paid agents, or to continue dealing with them in some less formal relationship, was made by top officials at headquarters in Langley, Va."

In other words, top officials at the CIA knew the agency was working with Contra drug traffickers and didn't do anything about it. But the story, even with that shocking headline, quickly disappeared. None of the other major papers, news magazines, or TV networks reported the NEW YORK TIMES' findings.

How did it come to this? The paper of record running a story, perhaps leaked purposely by the CIA itself, that admits what many have charged for years...and then the story disappears as quickly as it came.

A look at the twisted history of the CIA/Contra/cocaine story:

If you've heard about the CIA/Contra/crack allegations, it's probably because of Gary Webb, who in August 1996 authored several stories for the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS. Titled "Dark Alliance," the series linked drug smuggling by CIA-trained Contras to the crack epidemic that has ravaged America. It never actually said the CIA knew about the drugs, but it did strongly imply it (the logo for the series -- yes, it had a logo -- showed a person smoking crack, superimposed over the CIA seal.)

The series ignited a firestorm of controversy. And the major papers, specifically the NEW YORK TIMES, LOS ANGELES TIMES, and WASHINGTON POST, all ran lengthy pieces questioning the accuracy of Webb's reporting. (These stories were themselves criticized for being hell-bent on proving Gary Webb wrong, rather than attempting to follow up on his stories.) Even Webb's own editor retreated from the story's conclusions.

But the story of the CIA-funded Contras trafficking coke isn't new. And neither is the surprising lack of media interest in getting to the bottom of it:

Contra supporters dealing cocaine to fund their army was actually first reported in 1985, in an article by Robert Parry and Brian Barger of the ASSOCIATED PRESS. After interviewing DEA, Customs, and FBI officials, the article said there was evidence the Contras were importing drugs into the U.S. to support their war effort. No other newspapers followed up on the story. As would be the case in the future, though the press ignored the allegations, the Reagan administration didn't. The Justice Department contacted the editors at the AP and politely asked them to remove references in that story that connected Contra drug-smuggling to John Hull, a CIA "asset" in Costa Rica.

But information on Contra/drug connections kept coming. In 1987, the allegations eventually led to a Senate investigation (anybody remember that one?) led by John Kerry (D-Mass.). Among the juicier moments:

Senator KERRY: What did you do with those drugs?

Mr. MORALES: Sell them.

Senator KERRY: What did you do with the money?

Mr. MORALES: Give it to the Contras.

Senator KERRY: All right.

But did the Kerry committee report find that the U.S. knew about Contra coke-dealing? Here's an excerpt from the executive summary:

[I]t is clear that individuals who provided support for the Contras were involved in drug trafficking, the supply network of the Contras was used by drug trafficking organizations, and elements of the Contras themselves knowingly received financial and material assistance from drug traffickers. In each case, one or another agency of the U.S. government had information regarding the involvement either while it was occurring, or immediately thereafter.

What was the response when the Kerry Committee report was released? According to a Lexis-Nexis search, only four major papers reported the committee's findings -- none on the front page. The NEW YORK TIMES' story, tucked away on Page 8, did mention one of the committee's more interesting findings: "The State Department paid $806,401 between January and August 1986 to four companies that distributed humanitarian aid to the contras but 'were owned and operated by narcotics traffickers.'"

But if the media weren't biting, the Reagan administration was keenly interested in the committee findings. Jack Blum, the lead investigator for the committee, complained that the administration obstructed the investigation. The report itself complains of pressure from the executive branch: "...officials in the Justice Department sought to undermine attempts by Senator Kerry to have hearings held on the [Contra drug] allegations."

Oliver North's diary contained at least two extraordinary entries:

From a July 12, 1985, meeting with Richard Secord, North's boss in the Reagan administration:

"$14M to finance came from drugs."

This entry, which was given in part to the Kerry Committee, was first reported in NEWSWEEK. North claimed he did nothing wrong and said the Kerry Committee was "just playing politics and dragging out wild charges."

And this entry on Aug. 9, 1985, which was submitted as part of the Iran-Contra special prosecutor report:

"Honduran DC-6 which is being used for runs out of New Orleans is probably being used for drug runs into U.S."

North claimed he told the DEA about this plane. In 1994, the WASHINGTON POST decided to verify North's claim. The POST interviewed top law officials, from the DEA, Customs, State Department, CIA, and White House, including some who had meetings with North at the time of the diary entry. Each one said that North did not pass the information on to them.

North's diaries weren't the only evidence of Contra drug involvement that came out as a result of the Iran-Contra hearings. CIA Central American Task Force Chief Alan Fiers testified during the hearings: "With respect to [drug trafficking by] the Resistance Forces...it is not a couple of people. It is a lot of people."

In 1991, the University of California Press published "Cocaine Politics: Drugs, Armies, and the CIA in Central America." The book, written by Peter Dale Scott, an English professor, and Jonathan Marshall, then the economics editor for the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE, contained what is still the most detailed and extensive evidence of Contra drug dealing and potential connections to the CIA. The book, mostly based on testimony from the Kerry Committee and other publicly available sources, got nice write-ups in the book review sections of many papers. No major news organizations followed up on the reporting in the book.

Subject: Re: CIA/coke NYT article

>Do you feel vindicated?

The second CIA report not only vindicates me, but all the other reporters and activists who have been trying to bring this to the public's attention for the last 13 years. It also proves that, once again, the CIA lied to the American public and was assisted in this effort by our national news media, which denigrated anyone who challenged the official denials.

The "Dark Alliance" Controversy

The story mostly stayed out of the media for the next five years. Then Gary Webb and the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS released "Dark Alliance." In many ways, the series didn't advance the CIA/Contras/drugs story. But it did make one stunning allegation: The Contras' drug-smuggling operation bore major responsibility for a public-health epidemic in America.

"The cocaine that flooded in helped spark a crack explosion in urban America..."

The other papers skewered Webb for, among other things, suggesting that CIA headquarters knew of the Contras' drug dealings. His own paper backed away from that suggestion too. Jerry Ceppos, executive editor of the SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, wrote in an editor's note that "[T]he story was right on many important points." But, he said, the story was wrong to imply CIA knowledge of Contra drug-dealing. (Yes, that's the very knowledge the CIA just admitted to the NEW YORK TIMES last month.)

Ironically, it was the title and graphic of the story -- "Dark Alliance" and a picture of a crack pipe superimposed over the CIA logo -- that most strongly implied a direct CIA connection to drug dealing. And titles and graphics are rarely the responsibility of the author.

The best wrap-up of both Webb's story and the big papers' responses to it appeared in the COLUMBIA JOURNALISM REVIEW, in an article by Peter Kornbluh, senior analyst at the National Security Archive. He agreed with the major papers' assertions that Webb's feature contained hyperbole and overstatement. But he also pointed out that the major papers' rebuttals had similar problems. He concluded that, by attacking Webb's story rather than following leads, "The mainstream press shirked its larger duty; thus it bears the larger burden."

The New Evidence

Both the Justice Department and the CIA launched investigations as a result of the "Dark Alliance" series. The results, so far, have dislodged new evidence that gives credence to Webb's account, some of it shocking:

The CIA decided to separate its findings into two reports. The first, with the snappy title "Volume I: The California Story," mostly vindicated the CIA, with one interesting exception: The CIA acknowledged that it had contacted the U.S. Attorney General's office in San Francisco and asked if money seized in a drug bust -- the largest bust in California history at the time -- could please be returned to the defendant. The money, the CIA said, wasn't part of a drug operation; it belonged to the Contras. According to CIA cables released as part of the report, "[T]he United States Attorney was most deferential to our interests."

The Justice Department report, meanwhile, delayed for months because of an "ongoing investigation," was finally released in July. Its scope was limited to finding out whether any Justice Department investigations or prosecutions were affected by the supposed connections between the CIA, the Contras, and drugs. It agreed with the CIA: The intelligence agency had intervened in a drug case in the U.S. on behalf of the Contras.

But the most shocking new revelation doesn't appear in any report. Rather, it came up during CIA Inspector General Frederick Hitz's presentation to Congress of the first CIA volume.

During his testimony, Hitz revealed for the first time a very special agreement that the CIA had with the Justice Department: The CIA did not have to report if its non-employee agents, paid or unpaid, were dealing drugs. The secret agreement, which remained in place from 1982 to 1995 (when Janet Reno rescinded it), was not mentioned in the CIA report, nor was a copy made public; Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) later obtained a copy of the agreement and provided it to the MoJo Wire (see "A Tainted Deal").

In other words, it wasn't just incompetence or lack of interest that led the CIA to ignore the fact that their operatives were dealing drugs: It was policy. Almost no major media reported the existence of this agreement. The only exception was the WASHINGTON POST, which mentioned the agreement on Page A12, in the sixth paragraph of a five-hundred-word story.

The second volume of the CIA report is still classified, and according to the CIA, there are no plans to release it. But that doesn't mean we can't get a peek. Remember that NEW YORK TIMES article mentioned at the very start of this story?

The article, written by James Risen, relies on an unnamed source for information about the second CIA report; it is unclear whether Risen saw the report himself. When the MoJo Wire called Risen to ask whether he saw the report or relied on a source to describe it to him, Risen said he'd "rather not say."

The story summarizes the report by saying, "no clear guidelines [were] given to field officers about how extensively they should investigate [drug] allegations." What the story never mentions, inexplicably, is the one set of clear guidelines that have been reported: The agreement between the CIA and the Justice Department that said the CIA didn't have to report its operatives, even when it knew they were guilty of drug-running.

The homegrown Sandinista movement was a very real new vision for the area, but they were hardcore Marxist revolutionaries, serving very real Communists.

The contras were extremely real, but they were an American attempt to create a new reality, using  them as an anti-thesis to force a new America-approved synthesis upon Central America.

The deception you asked about was Ollie North introducing the official line of disinformation about the drug-smuggling operation that was being exposed.  Whenever an elite operation is exposed the first reaction is denial, followed by other leaked stories comprised of half-truths, intended to divert attention from or discredit the damaging leak.

The Heritage group was only a part of the contra operation.

The drug/arms pipeline was a tool, not the desired end product.

When I finally figured-out that communists and capitalists were merely two sides of the same elitist coin, I learned to see the real crimes hidden from our view.  The idea of modern politicians like Bill and Hillary Clinton that they are promoting a "third way,"  between the two  corrupt ideologies, is the new deception,  the master deception that all modern freedom fighters must resist.

The things we did to make the immoral concept of "low intensity conflict" led directly to the fake terror war that threatens to crush or enslave us today.  This is the secret war that we have to fight, before all the fight is taken out of us.

I appreciate the first-hand experience you have in disseminating this info.

The international elite (the super-wealthy of all races) will be the final sifters of everyone’s wealth, with the CIA serving them, offering-up the Jews as a scapegoat or a distraction, to deflect blame away from the agency.

Quite true.  But there are more of a certain perceivable "race" than others in highly influential and powerful positions (given the percentage of the respective populace these people make up), and these so-called self-styled "Jews" will use the rest of the non-elite "Jews" as scapegoats and do with them as they will – as they did in WWII.  But make no mistake, when looking at who has control of the money and who has influence/power in governments across the Western nations, isn't it apparent that this small clique wields the most influence?  I would conclude they do, and therefore the predominant conspiracy is a "Jewish" (who aren't truly "Jews" but use that identity for various purposes) conspiracy.  It has not always been this way, but in the past century (at least) it looks as though this is the case.  That isn’t to say it is exclusively so, but my point is that “they” are apparently at the top of the echelon at this point.

I would also like to point out that Zionism stems from Judaism.  To understand the supremacy in Zionism one needs to look at the philosophy that certain aspects of Judaism express and the history behind its development.

Peace.

Thanks for the reply. As a former Bircher I was part of the cheerleading squad for the Contras and spent a good part of my "patriotic' effort (as an almost personal vendetta) debunking what I always thought was the despicable "death squad" smear by the MSM. Little did I know.

I have before written here my interpretation of the Hegelian dialectic as expressed by communist agitation (thesis) met by the reaction of the status quo (anti-thesis) to produce the new government empowerment (new synthesis) but never saw the full application of this formula on Nicaragua even as an avid Bircher where I actually first became aware of the dialectical. My thinking at the time was that the thesis was not producing the expected reaction and the rabid smear of "death squads" on the Contras was part of this attempt to induce or reignite the expected reaction. I never saw the exploitation of the Contras by the US as you've explained as the anti-thesis, it is still hard for me to think this deception used my efforts and financial sacrifice during those few years hence my confusion and questions.

Using Nicaraqua as the example, the new synthesis then is (or was) the outcome of  the clandestine Soviet induced homegrown Sandinistas rising up based on artificially provocated social injustice to be met militarily by the well-intentioned but misguided US influenced Contras to produce a US intervention of Central America by individuals composing the 'empire' underpinned by patriotic "do-gooders".

While I've not revisited those events of that era for sometime and I have read your whole essay once only and based on what I've just explained, as you've noticed, something I found confusing in the very beginning and it may be explained further in the essay but In context of Central America, what outcome was actually achieved? The placement of controllable "moderates"? A softer attempt at socialistic nationalization of industry?

I was never a Bircher, though I was approached by one of their low-key recruiters.  In 1980 I landed a job at a meat-packing plant owned by an a group of brothers, one or more of whom were secretly JB supporters.  I was assigned to work under the tutelage of a meat-cutter who was an active JB man and he gently edged the short conversations we shared towards the idea of my signing on.

I don't think that the empire-builders even came close to obtaining any goals they had there, besides offering-up military resistance against the Soviets, as part of a worldwide plan of resistance.  I think that it is one of the rare occasions where the American people actually rose-up (under a Democratic leadership that really acted like a principalled opposition) and demanded an end to immoral illegal government aggression.

As my article attempted to explain, the "conservative" network that survived the Boland circuit-breaker, and the worldwide network of low intensity conflicts it spawned satisfied the empire's greater goals and became the basis of the organization of radicalized militants and mercenaries, "the base," which is known today as "al Qaida."

Today, as we seek to put an end to the empire's plans for permanent perpetual war, and more importantly to preserve America by putting an end to the global empire itself, we must look to lessons like these (and those given in the companion article on the mutiny of Vietnam's vets contributed by Atheo).  The war on terror has always been a psy-op and a criminal pre-planned operation, regardless of the 911 events which precipitated the climactic period we are now in.

Exposure of the historical record of America's foreign policy based on terrorism is the path which we must follow, if we want to bring this ugly most destructive chapter of the unfolding story to a close.

Fight the power!
