They liked the singing voice of the girl but decided she looks unflattering and "rural" so they wanted to present the best image of PRC in subtle propaganda while sweeping appalling human rights record and Big Brother oppression under the rug. Chinese Communism with a smiley face.

I remember reading the script - for that particular scene only - where they are in the parking lot. He can't find the car and she keeps telling him he's stupid for getting lost, and she doesn't let up...then he finally shoots her.

I don't know about Rosie. It's hard to tell with her. But I appreciate her nailing that wretched female. Rosie knew her days were numbered with that show anyway.
