Israel is concerned about reported Russian deliveries of advanced MiG-31 fighter planes to its enemy Syria as part of an armaments drive, the top-selling Hebrew daily reported on Tuesday.
The MiG-31, considered one of the best fighters in the world, can carry guided missiles with a range of more than 200 kilometres (125 miles) and is capable of striking 24 different targets simultaneously, Yediot Aharonot said. "This information is more concerning when put in the context of massive armaments purchases made recently by the Syrians," Yuval Steinitz, an MP from Israel's right-wing opposition Likud party, was quoted as telling the daily. "If Syria acquires the MiG-31 we can no longer rule out the idea that this country is preparing for war," said Steinitz, a former chairman of Israel's defence and foreign affairs parliamentary committee. A Russian newspaper reported on Tuesday that Russia has begun delivering five MiG-31E interceptors to Syria as part of an agreement reached this year, and that Moscow also plans to sell Damascus its MiG-29M/M2 dual role fighters. The Israeli media has recently carried alarmist reports that a war with Syria could erupt as early as this summer, following Israeli intelligence reports that Damascus was preparing for such a conflict. Two Israeli cabinet ministers have confirmed, however, that the government has approached Syria about the possibility of renewing peace talks. Peace talks between Israel and Syria collapsed in 2000, mainly because of a dispute over the return of the strategic Golan Heights, which the Jewish state captured in the 1967 Arab-Israeli war and annexed in 1981. |

US F-35 can strike air and ground targets
The Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency has approved the $15.2 billion sale of 25 F-35 Joint Strike Fighters for Israel with an option for another 50, saying it is vital to US national security interests to assist Israel develop “a strong and ready self-defense capability.”
DEBKAfile’s military sources report that President George W, Bush, in mid-financial crisis, fully discharged his promise of a defense package for Israeli before he left office. There was no announcement of the date of supply.
Earlier this month, the Pentagon approved up to $330 million in three separate arms deals for Israel and posted its advanced FBX-band radar system to an Israeli Air Force base in the Negev.
Israel is the first foreign nation to receive the up-to-the-minute Lockheed Martin F-35 Joint Strike stealth fighter, which will replace the older F-16 fighters and enhance its air-to-air and air-to-ground defenses and by virtue of five exceptional features:
1. An advanced radar for striking ground or air targets long distance while destroying any threat in its immediate environment.
2. An electro-optical targeting system (EOTS).
3. The pilot’s helmet-mounted displays (HMD).
4. It is the first fighter plane in the world with a communications system linked to satellites.
5. The capacity for carrying large quantities of ordnance - from joint direct attack munitions to AIM-120 and AIM-132 air-to-air missiles.
The first consignment of 25 F-35’s has a conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) configuration, while the next 50 are short take-off and vertical landing (STOVL) aircraft. In the event of an armed conflict, the Israel Air Force calculates that its long runways will be in danger of attack by Iran, Syria, Hizballah and Hamas.
The deal was approved after senior Israeli and US officials met in Washington this month and assurances were tendered that sensitive technologies would not be passed to third parties.
According to Defense Industry Daily and Kommersant, the aquisition of these MiGs may be for Iran as well as Syria, in a sneeky plot to bypass international sanctions against Iran. Kommersant says Iran is financing the purchase.
Hopefully Iran will secure a deal with Moscow over the S300 surface-to-air missile defense system, which would seriously complicate a Zionist attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. Then again, if the Israelis find out about such a deal, it'd probably scare them into hitting Iran before the system is delivered and operational.
The Israeli Embassy in DC, AKA AIPAC, bent over backwards to get this sweetheart deal approved to further Israeli territorial ambitions and to maintain its hegemony over the region.
The F-35 sale is being framed that it's to help Israel's defensive capabilities.
There's nothing defensive about the F-35. It is designed to evade radar and a country's air defenses so the F-35 can go in and bomb the hell out of people. With the extra fuel tanks being added by Israel, the F-35's range will be increased significantly from 600 miles to close to 1,200 miles or more.
The only defensive capability about the F-35 will be Israel's defense against any peace talks whenever it hears the "P" word, as in PEACE talks.
The F-35 is being pushed as a "sale" to Israel. Ha.
This will be another giveaway to that nation of religious bigots that will further destabilize the ME, a condition that the Israeli's feed off, like some psychic vampires.
Israel will be the FIRST foreign nation to receive this advanced stealth aircraft.
When it's all said and done, Israel will walk away with dozens of these fighters and tell it's Congressional lap dogs to gimmick the process so the Khazars don't pay one shekel.
These advanced fighters will be used by Israel to further its agenda, part of which is to steal the River Litini from Lebanon and the Jordan River from Jordan.
