Singer fired; Zionist world shocked

Israel Singer was fired today from all his posts in the the World Jewish Congress, which represents Zionist communities in 80 countries around the world.

Singer was a leading figure in the Zionist world for the past 30 years, and helped to extort nearly $20 billion in holocaust restitutions from Europe .

The development marks an all-time low in the history of the World Jewish Congress.

Singer was not allowed to speak, nor were any of his suppprters.

WJC officials were shocked. The heads of the Jewish Congress in Europe and Israel threatened to pull their organizations from the WJC.

The Israeli branch of the World Jewish Congress said Bronfman is trying to take total control of the WJC. In response, the steering committee suspended funding for the Israel branch due to "irregularities."

Many members of the WJC believe its billionaire president, Edgar Bronfman, fired Singer because Singer did not support Bronfman’s choices for future officers of the WJC. Singer's status also fell when New York State Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer, revealed that Singer took WJC money for his personal use.

The WJC steering committee has until March 31 to find a replacement for Singer. Otherwise Bronfman will select a replacement himself.

Singer began his work in the World Jewish Congress in 1972. He served as secretary-general of the organization from 1986 until 2001. From 2001 until 2006 he served as chairman of the WJC’s administrative council.

In the 1980s Singer and Bronfman became a well-known pair in the Zionist world when they condemned the Nazi past of former United Nations Secretary-General Kurt Waldheim. In the 1990s, Singer and Bronfman attacked Swiss banks to get holocaust reparations.

Over the years, Singer and Bronfman held hundreds of meetings with prime ministers, politicians and senior religious leaders around the world over holocaust reparations, Israel, and the struggle against Gentile resistance (a.k.a. anti-Semitism).
