97% Owned - Positive Money [The Director's Cut]

To join the campaign to democratise money see http://www.positivemoney.org.uk/97percent

When money drives almost all activity on the planet, it's essential that we understand it. Yet simple questions often get overlooked - questions like: where does money come from? Who creates it? Who decides how it gets used? And what does that mean for the millions of ordinary people who suffer when money and finance breaks down?

97% Owned is a new documentary that reveals how money is at the root of our current social and economic crisis. Featuring frank interviews and commentary from economists, campaigners and former bankers, it exposes the privatised, debt-based monetary system that gives banks the power to create money, shape the economy, cause crises and push house prices out of reach. Fact-based and clearly explained, in just 60 minutes it shows how the power to create money is the piece of the puzzle that economists were missing when they failed to predict the crisis.

Produced by Queuepolitely and featuring Ben Dyson of Positive Money, Josh Ryan-Collins of The New Economics Foundation, Ann Pettifor, the "HBOS Whistleblower" Paul Moore, Simon Dixon of Bank to the Future and Nick Dearden from the Jubliee Debt Campaign, this is the first documentary to tackle this issue from a UK-perspective, and can be watched online now

95% of all our financial problems occur because our currency and central banking are under private control. Unfortunately, even if the masses understood this, and were given a chance to vote for public control, the masses would vote to continue with private control, and continue to remain in poverty and slavery. If you doubt this, consider that the European masses whine about austerity, but continue to favor the euro currency and Troika tyranny, which causes austerity. Consider that in October 2002 the masses in the state of Oregon voted to not label genetically modified food products.

Hence, 95% of all our financial problems occur because the masses are stupid. They are easily manipulated.

This happens because the masses are as selfish as is the 1%. Once the basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, health, and security are satisfied, the desire for more money morphs into a craving for self-image. While dollars in of themselves do not inflate the ego, comparative dollars do. The greater the income gap, the greater the power over others, and the greater the ego inflation. For the 1% and their shills, the true goal is not to acquire more dollars, but to widen the gap by elevating the rich and / or by lowering the less-rich.  It is not enough that the rich succeed. The poor must fail. The rich inflate their ego by being above the masses. The more the masses are in agony, the more the rich feel superior.

The measure is not money, but power and ego. A man living alone on an island, totally cut off from the world, has no use for a mountain of gold bars. But that same man in society becomes a god, because he has a mountain of gold, and everyone else does not. The sensation of wealth and power is comparative.

People in the 99% play the same game as the 1%. That’s why they vote against their interests. Like the 1%, they instinctively vote to widen the gap between themselves and the lower classes, hoping to feel higher by crushing those who are lower. For example, European slaves vote to maintain their poverty via the euro currency, because they instinctively vote to maintain their superiority over the Greek masses. Thus the 99% vote against their interests by stepping on those below them. In trying to stroke their egos by stepping on the poor, the 99% collectively widen the gap between themselves and the 1%, thereby becoming poor.

In short, the 99% are impoverished by their own selfishness.

Hence our currency and central bank will remain under private control. If any nation tries an alternative, with a public central bank, then all the other nations will gang up to destroy it. Examples include Libya, Syria, Iran, and Nazi Germany.

I have to disgree, Heydrich. I would say that the 99% are impoverished by their ignorance, not their selfishness. As Henry Ford said, if the people understood how the money system worked, there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning. The masses are fed the lie that the only system that works is the one we have now, and that's because it does work, but not for the 99%, not even for 99.9%.

Sullivan writes, “I would say that the 99% are impoverished by their ignorance, not their selfishness.”

I say their ignorance is caused by their selfishness. The issue is not intelligence, but moral character. People enjoy shitting on others. This is why the 99% is so easily enslaved by the 1%. I base this on reader comments I see at the corporate media outlets. The masses are willfully stupid. They insist on being cattle. They have access to the facts, and they could reason if they wanted to, but they continue to defend every lie the corporate media tells them. If you doubt this, then peruse the reader comments yourself.

Billions of people believe in the Jewish holo-hoax, to take just one example. That is not "ignorance." It is willfull stupidity. The facts are readily available to anyone who chooses to ask.

This is simply the way life is. If we deny this, then we maintain delusions, just like the cattle. If we are honest, then we must admit that every single day we encounter more evidence of how willfully stupid most people are.

I am not attacking everyone. I am simply stating a fact. I wish things were otherwise.

I agree with Sullivan. People are impoverished by their ignorance.

I say their ignorance is caused by their selfishness.

Ignorance arises when people are denied access to the truth, which is the function of contemporary education and the mainstream corporate media. And the masses are, as you correctly observe, easily manipulated.

To use your own example:

Billions of people believe in the Jewish holo-hoax, to take just one example. That is not "ignorance." It is willfull stupidity. The facts are readily available to anyone who chooses to ask.

But they are deftly fed the "facts" (lies) from an early age before the question even arises, obviating the need to search for them. Natural curiosity is preempted and neutralised. This is the art of social engineering.

Sorry guys, but I don’t let the masses off so easily. If we think the masses are “victims,” then we assert that people are automatons with no consciousness or free will. Further, if we call ourselves “victims" of Jews, then we are the same as Jews, who claim to be victims of us.

It is true that Jews and elitists own the media and governments and everything else, but the truth is still available to anyone who cares to ask.

Average individuals outgrow some beliefs (e.g. Santa Claus), but cling to other beliefs (e.g. the Jewish holo-hoax). This is willful stupidity. I do not excuse it.

I understand and share your frustration with 'the masses', Heydrich.

The problem is that when an individual's ideas crystalise into a fully-developed worldview, they identify with that worldview so strongly that they confuse it with the Self. That's why you see people defending establishment lies in comment sections on the Internet. When their beliefs come under attack, they defend them as they would their very lives. The egoic mind, enemy of the Self and, at the end of the day, the only real enemy, will viciously defend its own existence. To the ego, the truth is an "existential threat".

Fear, apathy, ignorance, delusion -- but I don't see "selfishness" at work here. In reality, the world would be a much better place if we were all a bit more Self-ish.

And while some beliefs are more destructive than others, let's not make the mistake of seeing ourselves as enlightened exceptions to the rule, separate from 'the masses' by way of our superior ideas and beliefs. That would be an elitist delusion, just another lie of the mind.
